Welcome to week six questions and grades as the Redskins put forth a lackluster and (yet, another) frustrating game against the Cardinals. The loss was highlighted by a late quarter meltdown from Kirk Cousins and fans of the burgundy and gold are in meltdown mode too. Feel free to offer your own grades, opinions, suggestions, and ideas. Week Six Grades

Also, we have some questions to close out this sixth week of action.

Let’s take a look at the grades.

Quarterback:
In all fairness, Kirk Cousins did look good at times, but an old theme is haunting the Redskins – good Kirk, bad Kirk. He was able to elude the pass rush and passed for more than 350 yards, but three interceptions down the stretch killed any hopes of winning.
Grade: C

Running Backs:
The running game was lacking again as Alfred Morris struggled to churn out very tough yardage. Roy Helu provided a spark with his receiving skills and a couple of nice runs, but Arizona was dedicated to shutting down the running attack as they would often stack up to nine players on the line.
Grade: C

Wide Receivers:
The receivers had a good afternoon as DeSean Jackson continues to put up impressive stats. Andre Roberts had a decent game against his old team and Pierre Garcon added a touchdown.
Grade: B

Tight Ends:
Welcome back Jordan Reed!
Grade: A

Offensive Line:
It would still be easy to torment this unit with angry curse words and a lot of criticism. Once again, they were stymied by a poor performance in the running game, but for the second week in a row the pass protection was adequate.
Grade: C

Defensive Line:
The defensive line took a step backwards with this game. They rarely got pressure on a quarterback who is playing injured and on his last legs as a starter. Their running back seemed to pick up chunks of yardage with ease.
Grade: D+

Linebackers:
Will Compton did well in a substitute role and Ryan Kerrigan was a steady presence again on the left side. Brian Orakpo dropped a sure pick six that was about as easy as it gets. This unit did not pressure the opposing QB as much as the previous week.
Grade: C

Cornerbacks:
The corners had a subpar week and made Larry Fitzgerald look like, well, the old Larry Fitzgerald. This group does show signs of improving, but they have a ways to go.
Grade: D+

Safeties:
This is the same message as last week. The safeties did a fine job overall and didn’t allow the opposing tight end to burn them as we saw two weeks ago. No long passes were given up for scores, but this unit was a bit weak in the running game.
Grade: C+

Special Teams:
Tress Way was above average on punts, but several were returned for significant yardage. Kai Forbath shined on kickoffs and was solid on field goals. Once again, Andre Roberts was a non-factor in the return game.
Grade: B

Coaching:
Some fans have said that the grading against the coaches has been harsh. We’ll go easier on Coach Gruden this week – after all, he was not the one who tossed the interceptions. Coach Haslett continues to underwhelm and his unit made an old has-been QB look like an all pro. BBQ believes that he needs to go during the bye and be replaced with Wade Phillips. Special teams looked better.
Grade: C

Week six passes into the history books. How would you grade each position and the coaching staff? What are you looking for in the coming week against the Titans? Does the play of our special teams in week six leave you feeling a little more encouraged with this unit? Again, who would you like to see replacing Jim Haslett – assuming this happens at some juncture? Should replacing him at the bye come to fruition? Do you want the Redskins to focus on both lines in the upcoming draft and free agency? On to week seven!

See you again next week.

Hail to the Redskins!
