REDSKINS SIGN OL TEVITA STEVENS TO PRACTICE SQUAD

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent offensive lineman Tevita Stevens to the team’s practice squad. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition, the team released offensive lineman Braxston Cave from its practice squad.

Stevens (6-1, 302) spent the entire 2013 season on the Redskins’ practice squad after signing with the team as a college free agent on May 1, 2013. He was waived by the Redskins on Aug. 29, 2014. He was signed to the team’s practice squad on Aug. 31, before being released from the practice squad on Sept. 2.

Stevens played collegiately at Utah from 2008-12. He appeared in 51 games during his collegiate career, starting the final 48 and earning academic all-conference honors each season.

Stevens, 27, attended Hemet (Calif.) H.S., where he helped his team to two Tri-League Championships. He was born on July 4, 1987.

Cave (6-3, 305) originally signed to the Redskins’ practice squad as a free agent on Sept. 2, 2014.

Low center of gravity, man, potentially good leverage position, more difficult to be "stood up"

Part of a scouting report on him:

" Stevens, who is entering his fourth season as a starter, originally earned his way onto the field at right guard, playing in all 13 games and starting 10 in 2009.

Stevens is at his best playing short-area football, as he lacks the top-notch athleticism that has helped the likes of Peter Konz and the Pouncey twins (among others) earn picks in the top two rounds of their respective drafts. Stevens has a wide lower half and uses his size and strength to consistently knock defenders on their heels at the snap, creating good running lanes for White to run through. He is alert in pass protection and plays with good knee bend, showing the ability to anchor against hard-charging linebackers, as well powerful interior defensive linemen. Likely to be viewed by some NFL scouts as a better fit back at right guard than center, Stevens ranks as one of the better and more underrated "second-tier" interior linemen I've scouted thus far this summer."

Could be a useful backup.

The Skins lead the league in Tevita's.

With the struggles our OL has, I wonder if it would be worth replacing Polumbus with this guy...or is he only worthy of the PS?
