    Default Pride Rears It's Head...

Got to say, I'm proud of our guys today. No one gave them much of a chance today, but for 57 minutes today they were the better team out there. I'm proud of the effort they showed. The Cowboys have to be more concerned and less confident coming away with a win than they might have been with a hard-fought loss.

We didn't lose to a better club today. And we didn't lose because we were outplayed or out coached. We lost because our field goal kicker (essentially iced after a ridiculously long official review) missed a gimme field goal, then barely missed a 50 yarder later on.

    That about sums it up.

But look at the guys who played their guts out today. Jason Campbell had one of his grittiest, gutsiest performances ever. I don't know how many plays he saved at the last instant with a key throw, scramble, or improvisation, but there were a lot of them. With a piecemeal O Line that could barely keep the Cowboys off him, he was typically picking himself up off the turf after every play. Rock Cartwright showed why its very hard not to love him. Our WR's played their hearts out. Even our secondary played lights out considering the situation. And, until they finally ran out of gas late in the game, our defense, even without Haynesworth, kept pressure on throughout.

So I refuse to be depressed following this loss. Even a win wouldn't have changed much for our franchise, but its impossible not to take pride in our gutsy performance today. I have to give them props.

There won't be any Cowboy fan smack-talk this week. They know that they didn't deserve to win this game. I know - I watched the game with one of them. Beyond a sigh of relief from him, he was very humble as he left my house. The best team on the field today didn't win.

    Way to go Redskins

I for one am glad to see some acknowledgment of Campbell's performance today. I thought he genuinely gave it all he had out there.

Campbell played very well, despite getting hit on every play.

Rock Cartwright played his guts out.....core Redskin period.

Also ,like the plays made by Davis, Kelly and Devin Thomas......kids are growing up.

This team is playing for Zorn.

It's clear that we don't have the depth on the O-line and I think we still need a GM, but this team fought hard and it makes me wonder if Zorn should be here in 2010.

Moral victories don't count for much, but I can't wait to have Dallas come to FedEx with Hayneworth, Cooley and Portis back.....this team played as tough as they could and next time we meet up, DallAss is going down.

I'm proud of our guys but I'm so far past moral victories it's not even funny.

Surprised at how little talk there is about kicking on 3rd down with 15 seconds still on the clock in the first half. Not saying it would've made a difference, just struck me as totally bizarre not to take a shot into the end zone there. We were 3-6 for God's sake, with a chance to put another nail in the Cowboys coffin and taking control of the game going into the locker room.

I still can't figure out that decision.

Boone, I think this is one of the arguments against Campbell today. The icing of Suisham was his fault! If he had thrown the ball out of bounds about 3-4 seconds earlier when he made it outside the pocket instead of nearly taking a 3 or 4 yard loss by running out of bounds when we were in field goal range, we would not have been in that position for Suisham to sit there for all that time thinking about it.

Not just that, but the coaches would have had more confidence in Campbell to take a shot into the end zone instead of fearing a sack and no chance at any points. But with a bonehead play like remembering at the very last split second to throw it away instead of knowing nothing was open and simply getting rid of it once he was outside the pocket, JC created the whole official review!

I agree! Jason Campbell had a gritty performance! He took some hits when he stood in the pocket, he made some crucial third down conversions to keep drives alive and he actually drove the ball down the field. But! Once he hits the 50 yard line things changed. I swear this kid is afraid of the end zone.

He could have done a better job on the preceding play, sure, but I think it's a stretch to lay the negative outcome of that drive on Campbell. Campbell kept a number of drives alive almost by himself today - exactly what you look for in your QB. Even given your point about the the end of the half - what difference does that preceding play make if you're the coach? You're in position to easily take a shot at the endzone, you're looking to seize momentum before going to the locker room, and you've had 6 minutes to think about a play that'll work....and you decide to just kick the field goal - with 15 seconds left??? I don't think that makes any sense. But what JC did or didn't do the play before shouldn't have been relevant in the decision. That's just giving a down away, plain and simple.

Almost as stupid as going for a FG at the end of the game instead of puntng. The way the D was playing, we could have won the field position game instead of giving Dallass a short field

As they were preparing to kick the field goal, I was looking at my friends as we watched on making the same argument, 15 seconds is plenty of time to take a shot into the end zone and kick a field goal if it doesn't work. But Campbell had just made a truly boneheaded play, a play that gave the coaches a reason to fear a shot into the end zone.

I believe that was enough for the Skins coaching staff, but coupled with his poor performances in the 2 minute drill throughout the season I can understand why the coaches wanted to kick it and get into halftime.

I am not saying the coaches made the correct decision, I am simply saying Jason Campbell's performance on that 2 minute drill was poor once again.

Boone, JC has continually made some surprisingly good decisions since the break, but he always seems to clam up when he gets on the opponent's side of the field.

Regardless, I was proud of the Skins today in many repsects. Our defense is pretty darn good!

Its a shame that this owner has destroyed this organization so much in 10 years, that we are proud of a 6 point effort

I mean thats just plain ol reaching right there. You can pin a lot of things on Campbell but thats not one of them.
Who gives a ****? We scored 6 points. Again.

I knew...sitting in my seats, after Rocky dropped that sure pick-6 (and yes, he would have scored) and we went up 6-0, I just knew we were gonna lose 7-6. The fates had ordained it that way. Kind of a microcosm for the entire Danny Snyder regime.

And let me just add one more unfortunate fact before we start feeling too heroic around these parts:

We are the only team this season to fail to score a TD against the Cowboys. The Bucs put up 21 on them. The Chiefs put up 20. The Seahawks put up 17. Is this tune starting to sound familiar?

The Panthers, in week two, only scored 7 against the Cowboys. That's the only other team this season to score fewer than 16 against them.

Nice effort against the Broncos, but other that that our offense continues to blaze a trail of complete suckiness every week.

Yea, I was perplexed at not taking a shot into the end zone with 15 seconds left.

When we upgrade our offensive coaching, personnel next year. Can we have someone that believes at taking chances in the end zone? I'm tired of playing like there is a door on the goaline. We need some coaches with some damn balls for a change.. stop over analyzing things and just play attack style football!

There is a reason all the other teams are scoring 30 pts per game. For christ sakes, the Lions and Browns scored over 60pts yesterday!!! We can't score 7!

I don't think anyone's calling the offense heroic. I think the word that was lost in the shuffle was pride, and I'd have to agree with Boone in the sense that I was proud of the way they played, for the most part anyway. And this season, that's been rare.

Sure, the offense is still struggling. The false starts are back breaking. The missed kicks lost the game. But considering that we were a team that had every reason to roll over and call it a season (like I think we partially did last year), I was pleased at the way we went into Dallas and straight up dominated them, despite not having our two best offensive lineman, our two best running backs, our Pro Bowl tight end, and our All Pro defense tackle.
