REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

RICHMOND, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent safety Da’Mon (Day-mun) Cromartie-Smith and waived cornerback Peyton Thompson. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In addition, the team announced that defensive end Jason Hatcher has passed a physical and no longer appears on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

Cromartie-Smith (6-2, 203) entered the league as a college free agent on April 26, 2010. In four years across the 2010-13 seasons, he split time between the Pittsburgh Steelers’ active roster and practice squads. He appeared in 10 games as a member of the Steelers, making his NFL debut on Dec. 8, 2011 vs. Cleveland and being credited by the league with four special teams tackles, according to STATS, LLC.

Cromartie-Smith played collegiately from 2005-09 at UTEP, where he appeared in 46 games with 34 starts for the Miners. He compiled 306 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks during his collegiate career, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors as a senior in 2009.

Cromartie-Smith, 27, attended Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, Calif., where he posted 106 tackles, three interceptions and a forced fumble as a senior in 2004. He was born on Feb. 19, 1987.

Thompson (5-10, 180) originally joined the Redskins as a practice squad member on Nov. 26, 2013.

The Skins have played around with swapping around CBs and Safeties during camp so it might be interesting to see if they look at him on the corner. On the other hand, if Thomas doesn't get on the field like real soon he's probably looking at the PUP - at best.
