With Carlos Rogers benched, who should start at cornerback this week? Should Rogers get his job back? Go with the veteran Fred Smoot? What about Justin Tryon, who has improved after a disastrous start to the preseason? Should it be the big rookie from Maryland, Kevin Barnes?

Take the poll!

I voted Justin Tryon. he can establish himself here as a key player next year. Carlos Rogers sucks, has a bad attitude, and Fred Smoot, play wise, isn't much better.

Play the young kids, see what they have

With Rogers comments this past week, along with the "Hands of Stone", he can suck my crank

Smoot tries, but he's about done in the league as a starter

I voted for Tryon also-but I sure would like to see Kevin get some reps out there. Sarge, I am in complete agreement with you-the Skins are too old across the board. The future of the team is going to revolve around developing the young guys, which is one reason I get so frustrated with the constant search for 30 plus year old FAs. In my view they are mostly stopgap bandages to patch systemic weaknesses in how the football program is run.

Smoot should start, Tryon should be the nickle and rotate him in at #2 and for god sakes activate Kevin Barnes so we can figure if this guy can actually play ball.

When I first read this, I was inclined to say start Rogers. He is the best corner we have regardless of his mental lapses. I think Sarge makes a good point, he is biding his time until he leaves Washington for good so why not get the younger guys involved to see what they can do? I would even go so far as to say either sign Rogers to an extension or maybe just release him now, well...maybe not that extreme.

Start Tryon and activate Barnes!

It's a shame. Rogers has proven he can be a very good CB, who can't catch. His problem is between the ears. Like Sarge said, his latest pouting session is repulsive. Unless he can convince coaches it was just a heat of the moment thing, which it didn't appear to be, then he is done here.

So then, Smoot is the first option because of experience. But, as fast as Tryon or Barnes can get more playing time, the better. With safety play being suspect lately, the young guys are a more risky choice than Smooty.

Question: Is Rogers an unrestricted, or restricted FA at the end of the year?

Rogers is a Restricted FA as he only has 5 years of time in.

I can't remember the site I saw them on, I'l have to look. Basically they were "**** it, I don't care anymore" comments

**** him then, we don't need him. I'd rather have Tryon out there giving 110% and getting burned all the time then have Rogers out there half-assing it.

“I was done for the game,” Rogers said afterward. “I don’t know if it’s for the year, or what.”

“I gave up the first one,” Rogers said. “It was a double-move. After that I didn’t play no more. After that, it was on whoever it was. I really didn’t pay attention.”

“It’s nothing new to me,” Rogers said. “Anything that happens around here ain’t nothing new to me. I went through it last year. I was benched after the first half of the season I had.

“I didn’t really worry about it, and I’m not really going to think about it. I ain’t even going to think about no future here.”

You're right. **** 'um. Good thing someone didn't get busted up and make it necessary for him to return to the game

In terms of what is safest, you play Smoot. He's not the best cover guy in the world, but he's a pretty sure tackler, and he's seen most of the receivers in the NFL at some point.
While I like most of what I see out of Tryon he still tends to get mixed around when he's covering a 3rd or 4th wideout, I'd shudder to think what will happen when he finds himself matched up against the number ones.

Carlos Rogers has obviously quit on the team, and apparently prefers to blame others for his problems. Sorry Carlos, nothing going on in the front office or on the sidelines makes you bite like a wet puppy on every double move you see.

I like watching Playbook on the NFL Network. It's one of the few analysis shows that isn't half about gossip and bull****, it focuses on the play of the game and it doesn't talk down to you.
They broke down the Falcons game and showed quite clearly that the Redskins started the game with DeAngelo Hall shadowing Roddy White wherever he went. As a result, he was shut down. he didn't have one catch in that portion of the game. Then the Redskins shifted into a zone that saw White go in motion, and as soon as he lined up on Rogers.. Carlos backed up almost 15 yards. FIFTEEN YARDS!
Ryan saw it immediately and called a quick audible, and threw it right over to him. Result,, 9 yard gain. They did it again, and when Ryan saw Rogers on white same play, pop pass, 8 yard gain, they did it AGAIN, and got 12 yards. Those were White's only catches of the game.
Who's to blame for that Carlos? Is it Snyder's fault that the sophomore QB in Atlanta smelled you out like a piece of rotten fish, and burned you accordingly?

Who's fault is it on the sidelines that you turn your back on blocks and end up ESCORTING receivers into the end zone?

F this guy. I'll offer to drive him to the airport.

Well then you'll be as happy as I was to read this:

Gray said other cornerbacks have had mental lapses in recent weeks, but Rogers was ignoring his progressions. Preparing for a potent Dallas passing attack, it'll be a focal point at practice all week for Rogers.

"Just stay with my eyes on the receivers longer and more cushion," Rogers said. "I'm kind of a guy like, I want to be on my receiver. I want to be tight and tough. Probably need to stay more depth, stay more over the top and just keep my eyes on the receiver.

Link

Great, more 15 yard cushions. So they won't beat Carlos over the top for a one play TD, they'll just walk down the field 10 yards at a time. I have to think that some of that is coaching, though. I seem to remember Smoot used to give big cushions as well and it drove me crazy.

Based on what I've seen so far on game days, I'd have to vote for Smoot. I would like to see Barnes get a few reps, though.

Rogers can't be trusted one-on-one and we need to be really disciplined this week because our safeties are going to be keyed on Witten, leaving the corners to fend for themselves on many downs.

Ugh,,, more cushion. They may as well buy him a ticket and let him sit in the stands.

Roy Williams is a big physical WR, the kind DeAngelo struggles mightily with. I'm not at all sold on Tryon or Barnes, so Rogers needs to work on RW, while Hall should hit up Miles Austin.
