I read it somewhere earlier, if the Kyle Orton of the past couple weeks shows up, the Skins stand a chance because of the quality of their D. Denver rushed for a mere 27 or 29 yards last week. If that is the case here, the Skins could pull out an upset if all the stars are aligned.

The Redskins strike me as a team that other teams "get well" against. Unfortunately, this looks to be the case for Denver. I expect the Redskins offense to keep stumbling over itself, perhaps giving Champ Bailey a pick 6. The defense will play reasonably well, but not well enough to overcome the poor play of our offense, and since they are not a playmaking defense, not well enough to score or win the game themselves.

Probably the one player that is the scariest to me in this game is Denver's OLB Elvis Dumervil. He's currently tied with Jared Allen for number of sacks so far this season with 10.5-he dropped Brady Quinn 4 times and Tony Romo, DeMarcus Russel, and Philip Rivers twice each-his .5 came against Big Ben. Orton's been off-his-feed and the Broncos run game has flat out sucked-the Ravens and Steelers divulged the vulnerability Denver has to a good defense. Maybe this is why the line on the game right now stands at Denver-3.5. That's not much of a spread for a team that three weeks ago stood 6-0.

Oh that Bronco fan board has opened a second thread about the game this morning with the following title:
" if you think we are facing a "cupcake" team this week ....better think again"

    Here's the opening post:

the redskins have faced a pretty easy schedule thus far but still, they are ranked #6 in total defense....and #1 in passing defense.
throw haynsworth into the mix and you have a recipe for a tough day for an anemic broncos offense.
we had better fix our running game sometime before midnight on saturday.
no matter how things look on paper, this is going to be a tough game.
the redskins defense ranks higher than the ravens D....thats scary in itself.
then add the fact that its an early east coast game....against another team "Hungry" for some sort of redemption.
the redskins players will be looking to earn a little r.e.s.p.e.c.t. at the broncos expense.some will be fighting for their jobs and we can not allow the old "were 6-2 div. leaders" and "they're a 2-6 hot mess" thought to cross our minds.
this is one of those games where we could look back in the end of december and say....."if we had just beat the skins".
i realize if we take care of business in our division (beat the raiders, chargers and chiefs at least 1 more time each)all should be well in the afcw.
however i think it will go a long way if we have at least the 1 game lead (hopefully philly whips the bolts to make it 2)heading into the game against the bolts at mile high.
There have been posts here to the effect that people wanted other teams and their fans to fear the Skins. Well, this is kind of backdooring our way there due to other team's failures to live up to fan expextations-but, there are Bronco fans that right now are afraid of the upcoming meeting.

This is the kind of matchup where Denver's offense could get back on track quickly. They like to throw slants to Brandon Marshall and our corners play too far off the ball to defense that. If our Defense continues playing that way and they complete the slants, we'll get nickel-and-dimed to death. Marshall is very good after the catch so missed tackles will doom the D.

If we can stop their running game, take away the slants and tackle like we're supposed to, we have a legitimate shot. Of course, that's supposing we can run the ball on them and put up 17 points again.

We are going to see how good the Redskins defense is this week.

Kyle Orton does not have a plus arm and is not an outstanding athlete.

Denver is also missing its starting RT.

It's really time for this defense to stop making excuses and come up with the sack strips or pick six the team needs to score enough points to win.

Denver is 6-2 but they are not world-beaters as the last 2 weeks have shown.

I have this team down for a second half swoon.

But will the Redskins show up from the kickoff as more than a speed bump?

Last week's start against Atlanta doesn't inspire confidence.

I actually think this is one of our better chances to pull out a win the remainder of the season. I picked the Skins in the NFL Pickem this week. I think we could well lose every game (short of the Raiders game) the rest of the way.

    But this one is winnable.

That being said, I won't be surprised at all if we keep it close in the first half then roll over dead and get crushed in the second.

I guess it's a good thing the Skins are playing at home. They're calling for 6-10 inches of snow in Denver on Sunday.

The Skins have a shot IF, they don't flounder in the 1st QTR like they've done in the past two games.

vs. Philly- Eagles O scores on a big play, Eagles D scores on next drive on INT
vs. ATL- Falcons score thanks to terrible mistakes on Skins to keep drive alive, a series or 2 later Falcons D scores on an INT.

If the Broncos go up 14-0 on the Skins like the other teams, game's over. The O is not even close enough to be considered to score more than 17 at this point. And that's not factoring in how Nolan has been doing with his D this season.

Also, it'd be nice to see either the O wake up early and get a score (even 3) or the D get a three and out on the opening series....I've never seen a Redskins team where it takes a half for the QB, O-line, WRs and on occasion the defense to develop a rhythm or get in any type of plays in. It's like they're asleep at the wheel and then realize they need to avoid hitting the tree after they've already hit it.

This is the exact feeling I have about this game, yet I keep thinking I'm being too optimistic. :P
