    Default Random Thought: PA Edition

Can we try this again so we can put simple thoughts in a single thread instead of starting a new one every time?

Today was President's Day. They combined 2 Federal holidays that celebrated 2 particular Presidents into one day. I understand the logic, but what was lost is the individuality of the holidays. It was about Washington and Lincoln.

Today, I was kinda pissed when I saw people in the social media world wishing Obama a Happy President's Day. Umm...wtf?

And just to clarify, this isn't about Obama, I would be kinda pissed if the same was said for Bush/Clinton...hell even Reagan!

My gripe is what is truly lost is a sense of this nation's, history.

Hope it has better luck this time. The last person to start that thread brought bad luck to it - what a buffoon.

Political thought of the day for me...

POTUS played his 161st round of golf since 2009. FLOTUS went skiing in Aspen for the long weekend and closed down air traffic in the region. Yeah, that will go over really well for the vacationers to Aspen during the busiest weekend of the year.

There has to be some strong libertarian financial backers out there... It's surprising to me that the libertarian party is not a stronger force in politics.

Seems like some simple tweaks could be made to take it from the fringe to the mainstream, though. Not all libertarians are fringe lunatics who want to eliminate all government. Limiting government is enough for a lot of them.

No, but the philosophy centers around very minimal government involvement.

So if someone wanted to borrow some of the ideas and make something new, that might work. But fundamentally the platform isn't going to fly with the main stream.

Whether it's a party or a person, the powers that be will always project them as nothing more than their worst attribute.

The best way forward is a combination of all the best ideas from each group.

The reality is, it'll never happen. Ever.

Platforms change all the time... Just look at Republicans and Democrats, who have essentially "switched sides" over the past 60 years or so.

The problem with the Libertarians isn't necessarily their platform (although some of it is pretty out there). I honestly think it's more to do with their going out of their way to make people the face of the party that are widely considered to be loons.

Also, I think the Tea Party would be a lot more of a force, and more widely accepted, if it wasn't for the fact that they scare the shit out of both major parties so bad, that they spend so much time and money to demonize them, mostly through fabricated claims. It seems to be the only thing Democrats and Republicans work together on, because they fear the Tea Party could end both of them. And what do I expect in response to this? The talking points that the left and right have worked very hard to convince people of that aren't even real.

I would posit the Republicans are having the same problem be it to a slightly lesser degree than the Libertarians. They are putting out questionable candidates. The tea party will be the ruin of the Republican party if not marginalized. I used to think the religious fundamentalist would be their downfall but the tea party is much more harmful. At least I get where the fundamentalist are coming from, agree or not. The tea party wants to drive the car and if they can't they will try to yank the wheel and drive us all into a tree.

See this absolutely blows me away. What do you call Nancy Pelosi? You cannot name a single Tea Party candidate that is far fetched as her...but they're fringe!

Brian, it's exactly the response I expected too, which I even pointed out in my post. There are no facts to back the crazy claims people make, but they keep on making them, because the left and right want them to, so they keep spoonfeeding the fabrications.

That's me, spoonfed sheeple. Forget that I would personally benefit form many of the slash tax/spending policies of the tea party. The thing is the more I've lived the more I realize that decisions are rarely black and white. Run from anyone with all the answers.

The more the tea party supporters throw the "people are ignorant sheeple and just don't understand or they would vote for us" the deeper the whole they will dig for themselves.
