REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agents linebacker Josh Hull, long snapper Kyle Nelson and safety Trenton Robinson. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. In addition, the team placed linebacker Bryan Kehl and long snapper Nick Sundberg on its Reserve/Injured list and waived safety Jordan Pugh.

Hull (6-3, 246) was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round (254th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 28 career NFL games with one start in Week 8 last season. He was released by the Rams on Aug. 31, 2013.
Hull played collegiately at Penn State from 2005-09. The former walk-on started all 26 games at middle linebacker in his final two seasons, leading the team and finishing fifth in the Big Ten with 116 tackles as a senior in 2009.

Hull, 26, attended Penns Valley (Pa.) H.S., where he was a three-year starter and earned first-team all-conference honors as a defensive captain his senior season. He was born on May 21, 1987.

Nelson (6-2, 240) has spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks since originally signing with the Saints as a college free agent on July 27, 2011. He appeared in the Chargers’ final six games of the 2012 season as the team’s long snapper.

Nelson played collegiately at New Mexico State from 2007-10 after redshirting at Tulsa in 2006. He appeared in 50 games as a tight end/long snapper and finished his career with 66 receptions for 559 yards and two touchdowns.

Nelson, 27, attended China Spring (Texas) H.S., where he earned first-team all-district and first-team Super CenTex honors as a tight end. He was born on Oct. 3, 1986.

Robinson (5-9, 193) was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (180th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He has appeared in three career NFL games, all with the 49ers during the first three weeks of the 2012 season. He was released by the 49ers on Aug. 31, 2013, before signing to the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad on Sept. 2. He was released by the Eagles on Oct. 8.

Robinson played collegiately at Michigan State, where he appeared in 46 games with 32 starts from 2008-11 and registered 229 tackles, nine interceptions and 12 passes defensed. As a senior in 2011, he earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and was selected alongside current Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins as a team captain.

Robinson, 23, attended Bay City Central (Mich.) H.S., where he was selected to The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press Dream Teams in 2007. He was born on Feb. 16, 1990.

Kehl, 29, appeared in five games with Washington this season and was credited by the coaching staff with a team-leading six special teams tackles. Sundberg, 26, has snapped in 45 games for Washington since joining the team prior to the 2010 season. Pugh, 25, appeared in 16 games with Washington across the 2012-13 seasons.

They darn well better know how to play special teams.

Robinson at least looks to have some athleticism which our safeties have tended to lack. Pugh was picked up on waivers and I never really understood why he lasted as long as he did here.

You have to hope that Forbath can work with a new snapper and this won't be a case of missed chip shots due to low snaps or roiled mechanics.
