REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have waived the following players with injured designations:

LB Roddrick Muckelroy
CB Ryan Mouton

The team waived the following player with an injury settlement:

OL Jacolby Ashworth

The team also terminated the contract of the following vested veteran:

OL Jeremy Trueblood

In addition, the team moved defensive end Adam Carriker from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list

With the roster moves, the Redskins’ active roster currently stands at 75 players.

Can one of the smart people here, interpret exactly what this means, especially in terms of what it reflects on his health status ?

I was thinking about this the other day; the obvious answer is that it means they expect him to recover in time to contribute this season, right? That's the only way the move makes sense in my mind. Obviously they don't view it as career threatening, or they would have released him with an injury settlement. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe there are different salary-cap ramifications to IR'ing him and PUP'ing him, that makes it advantageous to do one over the other, but I am not knowledgeable enough about the cap to know.

EDIT: I know you asked for a smart person, but I wanted to chime in anyway. :p

I can't remember a veteran coming into camp and making less of an impression than Jeremy Trueblood. If you didn't read the depth chart you wouldn't even know he was on the squad. Bruce missed on him as a second round pick in Tampa and it didn't work out the second time around.

At least it didn't cost us a draft pick this time around.

It didn't the first time :)

Bruce loves to dip into the Tampa 'surprise' Santa bag and occasionally he come through with a gem like Kai Forbath.

But there are the Truebloods and Dezmon Briscoes as well.

I realize he was drafted when Allen was in Tampa - what I meant was, in the past it has been the Redskins missing on a lot of draft picks, but lately we are hitting more than we're missing. So, its nice to have a failed pick not cost us anything other than a few weeks salary.

In re roster moves, I think it was amusing a couple of weeks ago when Chris Russell floated the trial balloon of keeping David Potter on the 53 this year strictly to kick off. To anyone that is in tune with the salary cap, the days of carrying guys like that are over. Besides, Shanahan is not likely to mess with a kicker that is consistently making his kicks, especially ones from 53 yards out as in the Buffalo game.

Smart enough for me ;)
