Random Commanders Thoughts

That Browns/Skins game at FedEx just got really interesting this season.

If he's even a starter AND healthy at that point of the season. Big IF
It would even be more interesting if Kyle was still in Cleveland.

Can't wait to hear Mike Polk Jr's reaction to this, reporting live from Factory of Sadness.

Griffin isn't ready to start. At 26, he is a guy that needs a coach to look at him as a raw talent and work him from A to Z for a return to the field.

Signing Griffin and then drafting a quarterback high is a mistake for both players.

Griffin won't get the time he needs to develop from here on out and the guy taken #1 by the Browns doesn't get experience learning behind a veteran who shows off the proper fundamentals, etc.

It may all be a smokescreen.

There are so many holes on the Browns team with free agents leaving I find it hard to believe they are going to pour all of these resources into the qb position and then allow the offensive line and the defense to continue to atrophy.

One thing I don't mind here in Washington is the end of the media circus.

Things have been so much quieter on football scene with some small features and quotes from McCloughan and Gruden.

The Redskins are officially OFF the NFL radar screen right now and that's the way I like it.

Well, you can hardly blame Gruden for Griffin.

Griffin and the circus surrounding him and his high profile on social media and mainstream press all but guaranteed that the HC and team was never going to be able to discuss simply winning and losing football games until the situation with #10 was dealt with.

Even when Cousins was on course to set the Redskins season passing record and tossing 29 tds and just 11 ints, there were still stories popping up about what the deactivated #3 quarterback was doing and what was in store for his future.

As I was reading yesterday, the Redskins made a mistake by picking up his fifth-year option.

I understand the club was looking to trade him before March 9 and pick up a draft pick or a player.

But if the team had simply not exercised the option and Griffin had left in free agency and signed with Cleveland the Redskins would have likely been the recipient of a FOURTH round draft pick as compensatory in 2016.

We could have used that pick to take a DL, CB, S or WR for the team to work with and develop for the future.

Instead we end up with nothing.

One has to question whether the team could realistically have expected better than a #4 pick back in exchange for Griffin even if a trade partner had come forward before March 9.

The option?

Spilled milk.

How many more centuries do we have to listen to armchair GM's whining over spilled....****ing...milk.

Griffin IS ready to start and he HAS been a starter.

He doesn't need time to develop because the HC and QB are both new so they will develop together.

A 15 million dollar smoke screen? lol

the media circus will never end as long as Gruden keeps talking about players and gossiping to the press.

using the read option he will be a starter but how effective will he be? As a pocket passer it will take at least this season to adjust even with him studying defenses and learning

nope, never blame the guy that's left behind.

except hes still talking about him like he did while he was here. always blame the guy who was quiet the entire season and let his "coach" say whatever he wanted to the media.

saying a change of scenery will be good for him and saying he will have a great career?

Yes, it went viral and picked by the Post and other organizations. I didn't expect it to be such a "hit".

It was either that or say something like, "It looks like a styrofoam plate that has been left in the microwave too long".

I think the former is better in light of the proposed moat.

Mike, Griffin had TWO visits in free agency - the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.

Where were the 10-15 teams supposedly interested in #10?

The reasons he had two visits is because it is FAR from a forgone conclusion that Griffin is able and ready to start 16 games for a team in 2016.

If there was a greater consensus about his health, his fit in the NFL, and in particular systems you would have seen him sign a contract more like the one Brock Osweiler did with the Texans.

The Texans paid Osweiler based on what 7 or 8 career starts?

That's not much in the NFL.

Of course, did I mention the Browns have had the most unstable qb situation in the NFL since 1999 as indicated in Florio's piece yesterday?

These guys are desperate and throwing darts at the wall.

The REASON there was such relief about Griffin staying out of the media and being the 'good soldier' in 2015 is that he did the OPPOSITE in prior situations in the past.

Let's not make believe the organization screwed Griffin.

In fact it was probably Cousins that was screwed the most, being named the backup when everyone from the coaches to his teammates saw in practices and camp that he was the more effective quarterback.

I read that he wanted to go to Dallas, and both Cleveland and Houston were considering him as a starter. There were also 4-5 other (unnamed) teams that wanted him as a back-up.

Once Cleveland ditched Johnny Football, and both he and RGIII said that Dallas was their preferred destination, it became obvious that if either went to Dallas, they would be the back-up to Romo. That was something RGIII didn't want to be. Houston took the initiative and signed Brock, probably due to his recent experience, which was more appealing that RGIII's. The Cleveland job was there for the taking, RGIII took it, and thus McCown is now on the trade table.

Remember that I am half a world away and don't get all the same info that you guys get, so I am only assuming that is how it went down. I may be totally wrong, but I'm happy to live with my version.

No QB goes to Cleveland if they have a better option. Come on guys - get real. Griffin may be more capable than some teams believe. He's got significant innate talent. But what other team, other than the hapless Browns, was willing to anoint him a starter?

It's either going to be the greatest comeback in NFL history, or it's going to be a very bad and depressing thing to watch.

If he plays, he's going to be up against defenses like Pittsburgh and Baltimore twice a season. That's the last place I wanted him to be.

As of this second, the odds of Cleveland winning the SB are 200-1. The next worst team is 80-1.

Everyone's expecting a massacre.

Report: Broncos were concerned about Robert Griffin?s character | ProFootballTalk

F Shanny. With that said, Robert did sound like a bit of an asshat after reading Keim's latest piece. As often happens when a player leaves, stories that had been held back start to come out.

Some are true, and some are probably false. With Keim, I've always believed him to shoot straight.

I will say this. I felt there was a problem right after he signed. He immediately went on twitter and started asking each player individually what their "why" was. Before taking a single snap. I'm sure that rubbed some veterans the wrong way.

If some new rookie employee came into my job on Monday and started that crap? I'd tell him to go F himself.

It seems like he's now learned his lesson, and he'll actually focus exclusively on football rather than on trademarking slogans and hiring interns.

I'll be pulling for him.

Browns might have been one of the worse landing places for RG. His legs aren't going to overcome piss poor O'Line play, as we well know. He needs solid line play to allow him to develop.

Indications are that he's healthy and looking like the QB from 2012. Fast, agile, and accurate with his throws. If he can'rt run he's screwed, because from what I can gather, that's what the Browns are counting on while they build a line.

The true tale with Griffin will be WHAT move the Browns make in Round 1 of the draft.

If they take Wentz or Goff with the #2 overall pick, then Griffin will find it almost impossible to get a 'fair shake' in Cleveland just as Kirk Cousins didn't get a legit shot at holding the starting job here until Robert had been hurt twice and performed poorly over a good sequence of games.

If the Browns DON'T take a quarterback in Round 1 and deploy those resources to the OL and rebuilding their WR core, then I will believe Griffin is getting a legit shot to be the long-term answer in Cleveland.

Ha
That's exactly what observers, certain staff members and consultants said about him, just before the 2013 season....and the 2014 season....and the 2015 season.
He may be just that. But he's got to work on other things, if he wants to make it as an NFL starter at QB.

Nowhere in the discussion of Griffin, even from Browns' coach Hue Jackson, is an update on what the expectation is for Grffin from the pocket.

Whether Robert is a 4.3 or 4.4 or 4.5 40 yard man after recovering from the various knee and ankle injuries is not really material to his future success.

What is crucial is what Robert has been doing to close the gap on his ability to make plays from the pocket and deliver the ball in a timing offense.

To me that kind of transition takes awhile and you need 'live' fire to grow.

Jackson talks about Griffin coming in and competing for a spot, but signing Griffin to me means you are investing in TUTORING him to become a true NFL passer rather than an athlete playing QB.

So, merely bringing him in to compete with McCown, Davis and perhaps a high draft pick to me doesn't do anything because as Griffin leaves DC he still needs to learn how to play the game at this level.

He won't beat out Josh McCown right now if the qualification is strictly his ability to deliver from the pocket.
