Random Commanders Thoughts

no, he didn't play because of Shanahan. Its hard to have any highlights or get your speed up when you aren't in the game.
Hmm. That's a unique perspective. Personally, while part of me agrees Mike Shanahan was the devil, ultimately I think Cooley stopped getting targets and playing time because Father Time caught him and duck-taped an anchor to his pants.

well, they threw the ball to him 3 times despite being in 9 games. while I am not trying to say he is the same ol cooley and agree he has slowed down, we dont really have much on the field and if he is in game shape like he claims to be he wouldn't be the worst person we've brought in to camp in our history.

That I can probably agree with. :)

I just hope we're aiming a little higher these days.

You and me both. I would be aiming higher too, but its almost all the way through training camp and we are sitting here with 3 broke ass TEs. I just dont see the harm in kicking the tires on someone who watches us, knows us, and has the supposed motivation to play again. If he sucks, bye. If he produces, he is most likely a vet minimum TE who can be serviceable until one of the 3 decide to man up

Mike, you're killin' me. Do you really not think there are (and better be) TE's on Scot M's big board rated higher than 33-year-old, three-years-retired Chris Cooley?

I didn't say that. I don't think he has called them, or he hasn't brought any of them in. Why do we need to be limited to people other than Cooley? Why cant he come in and try out along with everyone else?

that's my main issue. why is everyone so anti of just letting him try out?

I won't speak for anyone else, so I'll just repeat what I've been saying all along. I wouldn't waste the time and entertain the circus of trying him out because the man simply could not run any more ... three years ago.

That's enough for me on this one.

we are in training camp and I have yet to hear of any calls or even any rumors of any UDFA coming to see us. I am not really sure why you say there is 0% chance of him contribution...that doesn't seem right if he is in playing shape and can learn the playbook. He may not be the best option but we don't seem to have many but some guy named Hoss.

I said there is a 5% chance he contributes meaningful snaps THIS year, a 0% chance next year. Low odds - probably about the same for a street FA who would, one presumes, be 10 years+ younger than Cooley. I love the guy, but if we're going to give a roster spot to someone, I'd rather it be to the guy who potentially, theoretically could contribute something both this year and next year.

That ain't Cooley.

color me crazy for wanting to try every option as a 4-12 team.

FWIW, when asked about Cooley, Gruden said the team had not contacted him "yet".
If the team had no intention whatsoever of considering Cooley, I don't think he would have used the word "yet".
At the very least, that makes it sound like they are considering him an option.

He meant for training camp reporting on 980... ;)

Lol..I was just coming to post that. Except the molasses part...that part I find exaggerated but your right :)

#HTTR trending on Twitter during a preseason game = feels good, man.

Deangelo is garbage right now.
Preston looks damn good
Trent looks good
It is clear that morris is much better than any other running back we have.
I don't like andre roberts

We shot ourselves in the foot the first half

Dropped passes
Fumbled punts
Blown coverages for both their touchdowns

We didn't have most of our stars in there but we need to shore up and fix these issues.

I'm not very optimistic after seeing the same old Redskins early this morning. (some would argue - ever) I realize our secondary is beat up and the injuries/suspension there is a complete mess. But Hall is complete garbage and shouldn't even be out there. He's a huge liability and evidently too good to tackle in the preseason. Culliver's PI was questionable given the announcers thought it was offensive PI however, I liked his body slam tackle later in the first. Defense got picked apart like Hazlett never left.

Our vaunted defensive line was a sieve at times. Didn't see the dominating middle of the line that I hoped would at least put some of the other woes on the back burner. Paul's injury and now Redd's injury are very sad but typical stumbles on our long hard rocky road to legitimacy.

Alfred looks like Alfred Morris :eclipsee_Victoria:and Looks like the rookie can help take some pressure and carries off his shoulders. Red zone woes? You don't say? Some day. Roberts probably isn't going anywhere due to his dead money, shocker. But he needs to be deactivated. Give Grant his spot and bring Crowder up when healthy. DO NOT give Chris Thompson the ball on ST ever again. How are we still looking for someone to catch the ball on ST and not fumble it?? HOW? Seems to me we are going to run the ball a lot. I like that but looking at the numbers, we led in running, passing, TOP and got our asses handed to us because of undisciplined play and piss poor special teams.

Good 52 yard field goal, bad every kickoff. Tres Way needs to kickoff or they need to find another specialist.

I'm starting to see points made against Jay Gruden as a head coach more and more. Pettine looked mean, nasty and confident. Gruden looked lost at times, again. Another unforced timeout for Kirk in the 2nd qtr pisses me off more and more every frickin time.

I'm not going to comment much on the QB situation. Lets just say it is what it is and it ain't what I hoped it would be. Its early, maybe too early to say "same old Redskins" but that pretty much what I walked away from this outing thinking to myself.
