Random Commanders Thoughts

Oh, I agree. Year three is make or break for young WRs. He needs to put up or get out, this year. But some are already writing him off as "bust" and a "bum" - that's just inaccurate. I on the other hand have seen signs that he can progress to the next level, and am excited to see if he can do so! Lets go Hank!

It's probably because we've been without a real threat at WR since what.... Monk? I mean seriously, when's the last time we had a guy like that - HOF aside? Moss is the best we've had and he's clearly more suited as a slot guy.

Hankerson came right off the heals of Thomas and Comb too, doesn't help.

I do like the news of the 6'2"+ guys doing well. If Briscoe was good that'd be a hell of a good surprise.

I will be happy if Hank catches 40-50, Davis and Jordan Reed are the ones who need to step up. Like I just mentioned, Paulsen is a very solid TE, but he's not a #1 and we need a deep threat TE in this offense.

We know Garcon is #1, even though I was concerned by his lack of productivity against Seattle's bigger DB's, he is still good for 80-90 receptions if he stays healthy... Morgan is our #2 and should be solid enough for about 50-60 catches. If Davis is the beast he "can" be, that means ~70 receptions from him. That is why I don't expect Hank to have much more production, but it should be enough a 3rd round guy if he is making some clutch catches taking advantage of his height. Throw in 40 receptions from Moss and another 25-30 from Paulsen and that is more completions than all last year with about about 6 more guys to throw. Oh and if Lance Lewis can get over the injury bug enough to live up to the potential my ECU alum friend says he has, that would be a great steal too.

He's been in the league... 2 years. There is a very good reason for the three year rule. (Hint: because its accurate).

I'm just willing to give him the full three years, whereas others are..... not. Its a good thing the jets didn't give up on Santana Moss after two unspectacular years, or we may have never had the Monday night miracle!

You gonna try to rewrite history again with the same guy in the same month?

"we may have never had the Monday Night Miracle..." Really dude? Oye Vey. Just name your fantasy team SOFA KING LAME after that comparison. Santana Moss, the player who is 155lbs of tiger piss? Hankerson is soft. He will shy away from contact and look for safeties while the ball is in the air. He runs out of bounds. The Jets simply got a little value out of Moss while he had one foot out the door after playing 4 of his five year contract out. He was demanding big money. I lived in NY at the time, I didn't just use stats inc and google.

Santana Moss has 1100 and 800 yards in back to back seasons and he's unspectactular... Pierre Garcon has 633 yards and he's the second coming of Christ?

:sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart::sweetheart:

I get it, Hankerson is kinda tall and most of the mancrushes center on that... Its OK homie, I've heard that you are pro gay marriage so why are you suddenly in the closet over this? Embrace it.

I, for one, am happy to see Lanky arguing for the positive side in the players.

Someone has to keep us pessimistic jerks in line ;)

Who knows, he may be right. We'll all be worshiping at the alter of Lanky in april because orakpo had HOF type numbers, Hankerson put up solid #2 numbers from a alternate-#3 spot. As many years as we've had to endure watching guys underperform it'd be nice to see some unexpected over-performances.

We're paying a combined 53$ million for Garcon and Morgan.

We have to start getting something out of our drafted WR's. We don't have a choice. Above-average talent at that position is just incredibly expensive on the free agent market.

Dude, when did we start talking about Garçon???

Reading is fundamental - as usual, you are so self-abosrbed in your own argument and condescension, you completely missed my point. Santana Moss did not go over 1000 yards until his THIRD YEAR IN THE LEAGUE. That's why I brought up the THREE YEAR RULE for WRs in the NFL.

Santana Moss's first two years in the NFL:
2001: 2 receptions, 40 yards, 0TDs
2002: 30 receptions, 433 yards, 4TDs

Yes, two unspectacular seasons. I mean, if you think 30/433/4 is spectacular, then why are we having this argument? If the Jets had given up on him (as I'm sure a lot of their 'super smart' NY fans were clamoring for), he'd have never had his THIRD YEAR in the league, which was:
2003: 74 receptions, 1105 yards, 10TDs

Figure it out yet? Its not rocket surgery. Hankerson's first two years in the league:
2011: 13 receptions, 163 yards, 0TDs (much of which missed due to the hip injury - we may not even be having this convo if he was able to continue the upward momentum of his rookie campaign).
2012: 38 receptions, 543 yards, 3TDs

Hmmmm...looks familiar.

But you know, you could just continue to ignore facts and make lame ass gay jokes - whatever works for ya.

Tire people out with your bull**** as usual.

Here, you are clearly saying that Moss was not that good, and that the Jets didn't have the patience you are preaching we should have with Hankerson. Couldn't have been any more wrong. But keep typing maybe I'll get tired and concede. Facts... LOL.

Keeping pessimists in check? Ha! Just call me the bull**** police then.

Huh? Again, reading is fundamental. Moss was unspectacular his first two years, but the Jets DID have the patience, and it paid off in his third year. He was with them for four years, dude...

I'm saying if they HADN'T had the patience, we may never have gotten him...sheesh. Not really sure how you can interpret what I said any other way...

Knock off the insults now please.

Yeah...totally agree. Hopefully reports of Skye Dawson having a great camp are more Anthony Armstrong and less Marko Mitchell.

OH MY GOD CHRIS RUSSELL IS SO PAINFUL TO LISTEN TO JUST SHUT UP AND GET TO THE POINT ALREADY

my ears are bleeding. why would 980 give this guy more than 5 minutes of consecutive airtime?!?!

Just watched the Skins' v Dallas games earlier today and I cannot stop thinking what a steal we got w/ Logan Paulsen. He was involved in almost every rushing TD or crucial first down...mostly blocking but some key catches.

He may not be a Pro Bowl TE, but he was a steal.

He has the same ability to lull a defense asleep with his blocking then slip out and find himself all alone in the secondary that Clint Didier had back in the day. And when you looked at the replays, he was the pass coverage overload on some of those route trees.

Couple that with his soft hands and I think he'll keep more than a few drives going for us this year.

I'd love to be at camp today. Or fishing with my brother and his family in Cabo.

Nope....chained to the desk.

Griffin said during the press conference that he'll be wearing his brace all season.

Players who are having a really solid camp thus far...

Baccari Rambo - He could have the FS position locked up very soon.

Skye Dawson - The UDFA WR is having an outstanding camp thus far. Did the Redskins get a diamond in the rough?

David Amerson - His size is really paying in drills against the first team offense.

Kai Forbath - It looks like the kicking woes of the past are nothing but a memory now.

Leonard Hankerson - Despite the one drop that some are focusing on, he is having a very good camp too.

BB are you there watching them or reporting from various sources?
If you're there does Tyler Polumbus look ANY better at RT or does griff need his head on a swivel again?

Griffin should worry more about using the pocket he does have.

This came from Deadspin's "Why Your Team Sucks" features - this one about the Houston Texans. You'll immediately see why it made me chuckle:

Dan said:
Despite the fact that he has sucked at coaching special teams for years, Joe Marciano remains the team's Special Teams Coordinator. This is the guy who gave up on Jacoby Jones and Trindon Holliday, only to see them immediately ascend to stardom as return specialists with their new teams.

Marciano appears unfireable. He must have pictures of owner Bob McNair involved in some truly loathsome and illegal sex acts. Nothing else explains how he has kept his job since the franchise was born. He even got a game ball last season, when most rating services ranked the Texans STs last in the NFL.

How much better would the Texans be without this field position albatross around their necks? We will probably not know until either he or McNair dies, because apparently no head coach has the authority to dump his sorry ass.
