Random Commanders Thoughts

Here is the thing, I don't care if you are an electrician, a car salesman, a pro athlete, or retired, your health is your concern. You are the first person responsible for it. No one else.

Medical staff on pro sports teams are focused on the care and treatment of athletically based injuries and illnesses. This was obviously something else. A second opinion should have been sought. If not 6 years ago, then certainly after it continued to grow.

I am not absolving the Redskins medical staff because it seems to me that a biopsy was not out of order and likely should have been done "just to be sure", in the end, Trent's health is Trent's responsibility.

Trent Williams on the surgery. "Extracting it was the only thing they could do. Doing radiology on it would have put a cap on my life. 15 years, I think was the most I had after I would have started chemo. So, I had to cut it out." #Redskins

Trent Williams was diagnosed with Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP), a rare form of cancer.
Doctors said it was weeks from moving to his brain when they removed the growth. #Redskins

@kareemcopeland

Why didn't Williams take it on his own to see a specialist, assuming what he's saying is true... BTW, we've heard none of this over the last six years. Why? Because he's lying. This FO is a piece of shit, but he's still lying for public support.

More Williams on staying with #Redskins doctors:

"Well I didn't go elsewhere, I got the team to finally get what I thought was a cyst extracted and when they did they found it wasn't a cyst it was a tumor. DFSP is what the cancer is called, a very rare soft tissue cancer."

Which Redskins dip-hit lied a few months ago and said it wasn't cancerous? Was that Bruce?

You think he's lying about having cancer?

Asked if more guaranteed money could fix his relationship with the Redskins, Trent Williams said he's not “asking them for a dime.”

@jpfinlay

yes his health is his own responsability but you tend to TRUST the team doctors to have your best interest at heart. if this is true, it changes how I see the situation.

Trust, but verify. Especially where your health is concerned.

I think he had a tumor removed. The news was it was pre-cancerous cells, not cancer. Six years? You bet I believe he's lying. As bad as this FO is and as disliked as they are, we'd have definitely heard something in six years. Instead, nothing.

if he's not lying, then he's an absolute dumbass. He's lying.

Why are the Redskins dealing with this today as the Nationals are celebrating a championship?

Because Bruce was too stupid to work out a deal to trade Trent since AUGUST!

This team doesn't have to face an opponent, they are all too willing to shoot themselves in the foot.

When asked if his relationship with team president Bruce Allen can be repaired, Williams gave a stern answer, “Next question.”

So he sat on his ass for five years waiting for someone to take care of him? Waiting for someone hold his hand and go to another doctor?

The pot must have warped his brain. Or he's a democrat.

Good Lord, who doesn't fire this moron tomorrow morning?

At 25 years old and feeling invincible Sarge? Especially if team docs told him he was okay? I did stupid things at 35 years old.

But did you blame others for them?

But did you blame others for them?

No, and that's a good point. Everyone is responsible for themselves, but a lot depends on how many times he asked and how many times the team docs allegedly told him that he was fine.

Once? Five times or more over several years? If your doctor tells you that you don't have cancer tomorrow do you believe him or her?

Disagree. Had the team docs said "you have cancer" what's the first thing any person would do? Get a second opinion. Well, same holds more so the other way around. It doesn't go away but grows?!!! I might buy into his narrative for a year or two...but six years? Time to play the BS/common sense card.

I am empathetic.....but today's sequence of events was scripted by Williams and his advisers a long time ago. An obvious subtext to all of this is getting his money before the 10 game marker. Just as the helmet escape hatch strikes me as planned well in advance....cuz he never intended to play and said nothing. He didn't try a helmet all these months? uh huh. Hope he enjoyed his vacation in the sunny Caribbean with his family while the hold-out went down.

Recall, no one knew this was cancerous until the thought to be cyst was removed and examined.

I get Williams' anger, but he didn't play this very well either....partly because he has multiple objectives IMO.

Allen, of course, totally screwed the pooch. Is anyone surprised? Yet Snyder keeps his little buddy on the dole.

That's not the correct way to frame it.

The correct way to frame it is "your doctor tells you that you don't have cancer tomorrow but the cyst has been there and grown one, two , three, four, five, six years......do you believe him or her?" After a year, maybe, I get a second opinion. The more I think about it....Williams has laid down a questionable narrative. He never discussed the matter with his family? They didn't say "honey or dad...get it checked" . The guy has a ton of money and lots of free time during the off-season.

Nope. Not buying into this. He does shoulder some of the responsibility. I do agree with him that there is every appearance the Skins didn't give a rat's behind.
