Random Commanders Thoughts

Another player question for you guys. Has Preston Smith just disappeared in most of the games or what? Never see anything from him on the stat line.

Joking aside, he had 5 tackles and half a sack in the Cowboys game...

But then against the Chargers 0 tackles.

Did he actually play last week or is he injured too?

He really dropped off the map once Allen went on IR and Ionnadis started wearing a club.

Vince Lombardi's Final Win

Lombardi's final win as an NFL coach -- his 96th overall -- helped cap the Redskins' first winning season in 14 years.

Robert Davis inactive....again.

What's the purpose of bringing him up if he can't get any burn in games that mean nothing?

Ryan Grant was given chances early in his short career but Davis can't get on the field when there's no playoff implications whatsoever?

Seems like bad player management to me.....

The Redskins' offensive coaches are still in a funk.

The defense may have come out and played a better game than the past 2 weeks, but that offense was terrible.

And why?

Yeah, we have some injured players.

BUT, the gameplan today from Gruden, Cavanaugh and that group on offense was atrocious.

With Trent Williams out of the game and the line challenged enough, the Redskins somehow came up with the great idea on offense to run passing plays where Vernon Davis is blocking Chandler Jones man on man, the Cardinals ONLY impact player on defense other than Peterson.

Result was one sack and then a failed conversion on another such play in the red zone when Cousins had to throw it away before being sacked.

Then in the red zone the Redskins on two drives decided that the best way to try and convert a score was to pick on Patrick Peterson, a pro bowl corner.

He blanketed Crowder on one throw to the end zone and almost picked off Cousins on another throw.

With BOTH of the Cardinals linebackers having been injured during the game, instead of calling up 5 step drop throws to try and beat Peterson, how about some quick off the line throws to the TEs and RBs to convert for first downs against special teamers taking the field at ILB?

The Redskins won the game, but given how few points the defense allowed Washington should have won this one going away.

Instead, another nail-biter at the end.

How about those drives to 'salt' away victories? :wall:

With 2:23 left the Cardinals failed to convert and had to punt to Washington.

Game over? Nice drive to pick up a first down and make the Cardinals use all their timeouts?

Nope.

We only took 15 seconds off the clock with one incompletion to a WR (again where is Davis or a back here?) and then two 'give up' rushes straight up the middle, the last with no hope of picking up 10 yards.

Cousins? This was another poor performance.

On a number of plays he had running room up the middle of the field but decided instead to throw the ball late into coverage.

In a game where the team was SO POOR converting third downs (what were we 1 or 9?), a few well-timed keepers by Cousins during those drives could have made a big difference in time of possession and the final score.

Beyond the ill-conceived fake end arounds and play action boots which fooled no one, Cousins really did look today and last week as well as if he was trying to get through these last few games here without getting hurt.

See you in free agency, buddy.

Was our O-line not getting any push whatsoever on running plays or were the cards stacking 12 in the box?

31 net rushing yards. Against the 30th ranked run defense in the entire league. 31 net rushing yards - on 20 attempts. That's 1. 6 yds an attempt. Here, I'll put it in feet; at least it'll look better (as long as you don't look too close). 4.8 feet per attempt - much better... 218 total net yardage for Kirk & company; 286 yards for the visitors (not bad for the Skins defense).

47 total offensive plays by Washington. AZ - 80 plays. About the only way one can lose that game is if your QB is Gabbert. 1 of 9 on 3rd down - that's just plain pathetic. 24 min's of possession by the Skins leaving 36 for the Cards. Nice way of keeping your defense fresh.

And speaking of defense - realistically they're more responsible for the team not losing than the offense.

I don't think Gruden's run scheme could get push against a two men in the box.

There's the difference in head coaches.

Our guy drives the short bus.
While there guy went on the road, across the country, and was this close to whipping our ass with Blaine Friggin Gabbert.

But yeah, we just gotta keep mediocrity in place.

Hey, take away Doctson's minus 14 yarder, and Cousins 2 keepers for 0 yards, and our backs topped out at a full 2 yards a carry.

With the propensity this team has for putting the ball on the ground, somewhere Matt Jones must be wondering why he is the only player to have been sat or fired for it.

To be fair to Perine his 3 best runs of the day were nixed either by Washington penalties or the Redskins accepting a Cardinals penalty.

He also seems to have better hands than Kelley or dear departed Alfred Morris.

Shame Gruden decided to shelve the quick passing game to the backs in the fourth quarter and try and depend on Crowder and Doctson.

Sorry if this is redundant guys, wasn't gonna read four+ years of thread lol. Is anyone suprised by our departed OC's success with the Rams? I myself am shocked at how quickly he turned a moribund franchise around, although I think Fisher was mailing it in for years. I am also pissed that we can't seem to do the same thing here. Thoughts from better minds as to why that hasn't happened with the B&G?

Todd Gurley is how. That and The Son of Bum's experience.

Oh, and welcome aboard, Dude.
