Weeding out the suckers – There be pirates

By John Pappas
Warpath Confidential Editor

In a game the Washington Redskins had to win, they found a way to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-13.

It was a mixed bag for Washington. They did a few good things. They did some really bad things. In the end however, they did enough to get a win over a subpar opponent to go to 2-2 on the year.

And they will always take a win.

But like always, there were good guys and bad guys. Some players made the difference, while others just got made.

Here we look at both. We call them as we see them, and let the chips fall where they may.

Jason Campbell – Hot

We know; how can we say he was hot? Don’t worry, we will get to the rest. Fact is, Campbell rallied back from a horrible first half and did some of his best work of the season in the second. Case in point; the fourth-and-two throw back across his body to Cooley. He used his feet to roll right and then hit Cooley who slipped out from the linebacker. Speaking of his feet, Campbell had a few big scrambles today. Then there was the touchdown throw to Cooley from the 17-yard line. Campbell threw a laser, about as hard as we have seen, and connected with Cooley for the score. After that he hit Santana Moss on a perfectly thrown 59-yard bomb for a touchdown. Make no mistake, Campbell was the difference in the game.

Jason Campbell – Not

Campbell had three interceptions and two fumbles (one that was lost), the most picks he has ever committed. The funny part is; he was to blame for all of them, and could have had two more interceptions in the game. Campbell locked onto receivers all day and worst of all, threw late. The first pick may have been the most egregious. He threw a ball to Malcolm Kelly with two defenders in-between. On the second, he under-threw Kelly, who was never open on the play, and who had to come over the top to try and catch the ball. Finally, there was the third pick. Campbell threw the ball to Moss, who was covered high and low. In throwing the ball late, he gave Tampa’s Aqib Talib a chance to get in position. Talib had a banner day, intercepting three of Campbell’s passes. There were also two drops by Tampa defenders.
