REDSKINS SIGN OL JORDAN BLACK; RELEASE LB JONATHAN GOFF

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent offensive lineman Jordan Black. The Redskins also released linebacker Jonathan Goff.

Black (6-5, 305) was originally drafted out of Notre Dame by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. On March 9, 2007, he signed with the Houston Texans as an unrestricted free agent. He was released by the Texans on June 9, 2008, before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 22. He was released by the Jaguars on Feb. 7, 2011, and signed by the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 10. He was released by the Saints on Sept. 3, 2011.

The 32-year-old lineman is entering his seventh NFL season having appeared in 80 career games with 40 starts. Black played collegiately at Notre Dame from 1998-2001, starting all 31 games in which he appeared. During his time with the Irish, he started games at both left tackle and right guard. As a junior in 2000, he was part of the squad that earned the program’s first BCS game berth, appearing in the 2001 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Black was born Jan. 20, 1980, and attended Dallas Christian (Texas) H.S., where he earned USA Today honorable mention All-American honors as a senior. He helped lead Dallas Christian to private-school state titles in 1995 and 1997, playing at both offensive tackle and defensive tackle.

Goff (6-2, 241) signed with the Redskins as an unrestricted free agent on April 30, 2012.

Well, it's a body.

Nothing to goff at.

This was poor management.

Brown was compromised by injuries the past 2-3 years and was no guarantee to be a 16 game performer in 2012.

So, he gets hurt right away in camp and already the team has to speed dial for a street free agent?

Where is the offseason planning?

It's great to draft a guy like Compton late for the future, but for 2012 this team needed an insurance policy at OT.

And that might have been possible under the cap if the team had restructured Cooley or Moss' deals to create some flexibility.

Instead the team stood pat and now ends up in the same position we were in last season where we depended upon a washed up Sean Locklear.

Black, 32, is a 275 pound tackle who has been out of the NFL for a year and is now trying to gain 25 pounds while working out to get in shape as well? :Laugh:

Shanahan was so stubborn about keeping all the higher price contracts on this team without giving thought to how that resulted in being short of depth at key spots.

Shanahan can talk about Black being flexible and quick, etc.

But he's 32 years old and not one of the 32 teams in the NFL, including the Redskins, signed him last season during the regular season.

Yes, he has 40 starts but they were seasons ago.

So, no Shanahan hasn't spoken to me over a beer but my eyes are open and I can see a stab in the dark when I see one.
