REDSKINS SIGN NO. 2 OVERALL PICK ROBERT GRIFFIN III

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed 2012 first-round draft pick quarterback Robert Griffin III (second overall). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Griffin III (6-3, 223) played three seasons at Baylor, where he appeared in 41 games with 40 starts, capturing the 2011 Heisman Trophy last season as a junior. In his career, Griffin III amassed 12,644 all-purpose yards, including 10,366 passing yards, 2,254 rushing yards and 24 receiving yards. He completed 800-of-1,192 pass attempts (67.1 completion percentage), with 78 passing touchdowns and a 143.3 pass efficiency rating.

As a junior in 2011, Griffin III became the first Heisman Trophy winner in Baylor history in addition to being named a consensus All-American, unanimous All-Big 12 Conference first-team selection and earning national Player of the Year honors from Sporting News, Yahoo! Sports and Fox Sports. He was also the recipient of the Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Chic Harley Award.

Griffin, 22, was born on Feb. 12, 1990. He attended Copperas Cove H.S. in Copperas Cove, Texas, where he was a two-year starter at quarterback, posting a 25-4 record. He was one of the nation’s top high school sprinters, receiving 2007 Gatorade Texas Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year after setting state records in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

Ain't that the truth. For too many years the excitement of landing that top draft pick faded all to quickly as camp approached, and then got under way, while the prize rook sat out for crazy money. It was almost scripted. And it probably contributed to the ruination of more rookie seasons than we could possibly track.

LOVE the fact that The Franchise will be on the field from day one.

All I have to say now is HTTR!!!

And thus the jets that send so many Redskins fans rocketing off into full-on panic mode seem to have been powered down.

agree....but man o man...how much less this contract is than the one Bradford got! Skins are gonna have to work overtime when it comes to contract extension time if RGIII shines.

I'm sure the jets are just in a stand by mode, as people need to panic over something or it just wouldn't be the off season.
