On the Redskins' Name and Native Americans in Oregon

I found this very interesting - last week the Oregon board of education voted to ban all usage of Native American mascots. The morons who think the Redskins' name & mascot are racist would probably applaud this, however there are two Native American tribes in Oregon who are disappointed by it. In fact, they say the ban is "disrespectful" to them!

Here is an article on it: Ban of Indian Mascots is 'Disrespectful.'

(There are a few pay sites that have an article on this as well).

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and Confederated Tribes of Grande Ronde hope state school leaders will reconsider their decision. They'd prefer working with schools to come up with a respectful portrayal of a mascot.

No Native American mascot is more respectful than the Redskins'.

Interestingly enough, some articles only focus on the ban, and not the Oregon Tribes' response to it, like the LA Times. Anyway, just another chapter in the ongoing saga of our team's name.

Ugh, guilt is such a pathetic thing. I'm glad those tribes at least spoke out against the stupidity.

A subject near and dear to the hearts of long-time Redskins fans. It resufaces every few years and never fails to generate a lively discussion.

Just for reference ...
