Default 2012 Fan Appreciation Day at FedEx Field

I started this thread to post some images and tell you guys a little bit about the event. I will post the images in a little while, I wanted to catch up on our new players for a little while first.

Let me tell you the place was absolutely electric! They said Griff was going to be introduced at 2pm, but they weren't clear. The stage was set up on the field so most of the fans, 20k strong, were anticipating his introduction outside. I got myself in a good position about 1:45 and waited it out. Umm... they introduced him to the media before he came out. He answered questions, broadcast on the big screens, to enormous cheers. The place was loud. The media session was about a half an hour and the fans just kept coming.

So after the media intro, they had to escort him down to the tunnel, but first they brought his family out to a wonderful greeting. His father was greeted with an RG2!!! RG2!!! They lined the cheer leaders up from the tunnel to the stage and then he appeared in the tunnel. I was one of the first fans to see him in the tunnel. I have a few images of it, but there were so many media personnel in the way. They started his entrance music and the fans started to go crazy! The place erupted as he appeared out of the tunnel and strutted through the line of cheer leaders. I was not there when Gibbs was re-introduced, but this was the most electric I have seen the crowd at FedEx. And that was with only 20k.

He was only on stage for about 5 minutes, but there is no doubt he is going to be a major player in DC for years to come. We all sang Hail to the Redskins led by Griff on the microphone. He did the best he could, not sure he was expecting that. I saw the hype in person and this kid lives up to it! It's not just for the cameras, he ignites the crowd! He was asked a question and with microphone in hand the kid would address the crowd. The fans ate him up! Like I said, he was out there for about 5 minutes then he was shuffled off and that was it. For me at least.

I hung around the stadium for a little while catching up with a few of the ES guys I hadn't seen since last year. I visited the locker room...waste of time but I did it anyway just to say I did it. I have some images of that too.

Overall, I am glad I went. If this kid can continue to perform on the field as he did in college and how he did today working that crowd, this will be an event I can look back on with excitement. Hopefully I can look back like I do at the HOF intros for Monk and Greene, but that will take a Super Bowl or two.

Oh yeah, to top it all off, I bought my son his first Redskins gear! I will post pics of that too. He is 6 or 7 weeks from entering the world and he already has his first Redskins gear!

Today I am dealing with the results the amount of walking I did yesterday, but it was worth it. I am glad I could do it. I am looking forward to upgrading my cameras and editing software for higher quality images. And I have to end up working for a publication that will get me media access! I have to be on the sidelines! It is a must!!!

Great pics and summary El. It sounds like you had a fun time. They were estimating the crowd at 20,000 on ESPN. That's a big number considering there wasn't even a game being played.

I told a friend last night, I have been back from Florida for 3 years now and have attended about 15 games in that span. This is the most electric I have seen the crowd except for the opening game against the Giants last year.
