REDSKINS RE-SIGN ALL-PRO LONDON FLETCHER

ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent linebacker London Fletcher. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fletcher, 36, has been a member of the Redskins for the past five seasons, leading the team in tackles each year and appearing in the last three Pro Bowls.

In 2011, Fletcher led the NFL in tackles with 166 according to NFL GSIS, his highest single-season total since entering the league in 1998. The Redskins coaching staff credited Fletcher with 209 tackles (123 solo) for the season. He matched his career high for tackles awarded by coaches, established as a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2002.

In addition to leading the league in tackles, Fletcher made his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance in 2011, was selected to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team and was honored as the 2012 Athletes in Action Bart Starr Award recipient.

The 2011 season marked the 13th straight in which Fletcher recorded at least 100 stops, dating back to 1999, in his second season in the NFL. That is the longest active streak among all NFL players. Coaches have credited him with 2,258 tackles for his career.

Fletcher has also proven to be one of the league’s most durable players. He has not missed a game since entering the league as a college free agent with the St. Louis Rams in 1998. His 224 consecutive games played are tied for first among active players (non-kickers) and are tied for the second-most by an NFL defensive player since 1970. His consecutive starts streak of 179 currently sits 99 games ahead of the second-longest streak by an active linebacker.

So there, it's official.

Now we need to hear, "With the 2nd selection, of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select..."
