Are the wheels coming off?

If you want to know what our team is focused on, just visit the official site. The only ****ing thing on the homepage that doesn't have an ad slapped on it is the Redskins helmet. And they probably thought about putting one there.

It's obscene.

It's embarrassing to be a fan of this team.
I can see it now ... the Indians miraculously get their win in court and we become the Washington Capitalists and somehow convince the league to allow us to sell ad space on the jerseys like Nascars. Soon, Clinton will be sporting a Fig Newton logo on his visor.

The way the team is playing, maybe the Indians have a point about being insulted

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: at Serv's PSA. Hilarious and true. Snyder is throwing feces on the field for the fans so I think it's only fair that we should throw some back at him....'er his car. ;)

You know, I hadn't noticed that before. It's a rarity that I ever go to team sites anyway but when I'd seen ours in the past I always assumed that the ridiculously large number of ads was pretty much par for the course in the Niffle. Turns out that's not the case. I picked several teams at random and found that the number of ads on these team home pages ranged anywhere from 0-3.

Now, look at our team site one more time:

Obviously that last was just an attempt at humor on my part. :)

Back to the point, it's certainly not a scientific study by any means, but it sure seems to support your point Boone.

I thought I knew at the time why Snyder wanted to get his hooks into ES. I figured he wanted access to potential customers to increase sales of team merchandise. Obviously that was one goal, but in retrospect I think it was much more about the potential for online ad sales, which not coincidentally are not subject to the NFL's revenue sharing agreement.

The traffic that place gets is probably the best leaguewide and I'm sure all those clicks bring in a buch of dough. Seeing all those ads on the site and knowing how much uncompensated time and effort the founders put into it (and still do) makes it feel well, dirty somehow. Thinking about it, obscene was the perfect choice of words Boone.

At heart I'm a staunch capitalist and a business owner myself so I certainly don't have a problem with Snyder making money. However, I'd like to see a better balance struck between making a few bucks and totally whoring out the team name and fanbase. And yes, I chose the phrase "whoring out" intentionally.

As if I needed yet another reason to be embarrassed about my team right about now. :anonymous:

Ahaha - I just had a vision of Portis with a one-way visor like on the rear-windows of cars.

I noticed a big difference between redskins.com and other team sites when I was building the 'NFL Spy' feature Yusuf. Ordinarily, I wouldn't care, but as you said, when you look at redskins.com with any kind of objectivity, it's pretty obvious what this organization is almost exclusively focused on.

Sad - and yeah - embarrassing.

Love that chicken from Popeyes!

Oh and for the record, compared to the 0-3 ads on the other sites, the Skins' site has 15 or 16 (I lost count a bit) logos from other brands. Amazing.

Gee, pay-per-click must be more profitable than I thought.

I was all excited prior to the season because I was actually going to get to see the Skins play here in the ATL again.

I live in metro Atlanta, Yusuf06, and I have a ticket to the Nov. 8 game here. It was given to me courtesy of a company contact. When I first heard that we had gotten the tickets, it was prior to the start of the season (possibly after game 1, not quite sure). I was excited to go to the Dome and wear my gear and enjoy an exciting game. Now, I'm not so sure I want to venture into the city and spend that kind of time on what I'm almost sure will be a very disappointing game ending with all the Falcons fans widely grinning.

I'll most likely still go (I'm the only 'Skins fan I know here) but I can't help but think how nice it would've been for the game to be at least competetive. It doesn't appear that will be the case at this point. But, a man can always delude himself.
