Helmet Redskins sign OL James Lee

    http://www.redskins.com/news-and-eve...1-6ca951277bae

The Redksins have signed unrestricted free agent offensive tackle James Lee, the team announced on Monday.

Lee, 6-4 and 305 pounds, is expected to provide more experience along the offensive line.

He could compete for playing time at right tackle, where Jammal Brown has started most of the last two years but has struggled with injury.

Lee has appeared in 19 games with 10 starts during his career, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2011, Lee appeared in three games with one start for the Buccaneers. He played in 15 games with nine starts in 2010, helping the Buccaneers average 125.1 rushing yards per game, which ranked third in the NFC (eighth in the NFL).

He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2008. He was claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers on Sept. 1, 2008.

Lee, 26, played college football at South Carolina State where he appeared in 33 games with 31 starts. As a senior, he was named third-team All-American by the Associated Press and was an honorable mention choice for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America squad.

Lee is a native of Belle Glade, Fla.

No objection to this signing. Might be someone that sticks as a depth player at OT.

It has seemed obvious from Day 1 of free agency that the Redskins are NOT going to spend any considerable dollars or extend themselves in a trade to pick up any veteran OL help.

This is going to be the group that goes to camp along with Lee and whatever picks we make in the middle to late rounds.

Trent Williams evidently is going to be the one and only case of the Redskins committng significant resources to OL.

Another Tampa connection from GM Allen it seems. Hope he plays more like Bruce Lee and less like Michele Lee.

I like linemen. We can't have enough in camp.

I would like us to look beyond Denver, Houston and Tampa for our players however.

I beg to differ. They have certainly committed significant resources to Brown, now whether he will ever be worth those resources or not remains to be seen.

More likely camp fodder...I just don't see any reason to believe otherwise.

Salary cap penalty, plain and simple. Without that damn penalty, I'd bet Winston is in the B&G.

Yeah, the last couple off seasons have been less than normal in terms of player acquisition.

Capless year limited the younger free agent pool and the lockout narrowed the window of opportunity.

I was hoping that this year was going to be "the" year of normality with a fat cap in place before that stinkin' penalty.

I'm sure new contracts can be twisted and older contracts can be restructured to float some more cap but dammit, that's how it used to be and that's a bad place to go.

In terms of resources I was thinking of free agency to some degree but more specifically the draft.

That's why I look at the #3 and #4 picks and am concerned we are going to take yet another strong safety and a wide receiver.

Like the Giants, I want to see more focus on things closer to the ball.

With Griffin that is one major hole.

But we have an average center, an injured LG coming back from surgery and a RG in Chester that Baltimore let go because he wasn't strong enough at the point of attack.

We need to do better. These guys were fine to start rebuilding with but now we need to upgrade.

You mean, you're unhappy with the current FO's player acquisitions? You don't say!

Overall I think the team has done well in re draft picks and bargain free agents. The McNabb and Brown trades were the worst moves.

No, I am not down on the team for drafting and signing vets for defense in 2011 and going with plug-ins on the OL.

But now in 2012 it is time to go back and evaluate where we are on the OL.

The only player with significant upside is Williams.

Of the other 4 starters from last year how many do you think can start a Super Bowl?

I think the Redskins can upgrade at both OG slots as well as get insurance behind Brown at RT.

Montgomery is an average player at center. He could function more effectively if the situation at OG stabilized and we acquired players with the size and strength to play in the NFC East.
