Amid the wash of mistakes and miscues that can't be fixed immediately because of a lack of talent at certain positions, ie QB and OL, you can look at the special teams as one area where improvement should not only be hoped for but expected.
I am counting the games and so far the special teams have cost this team at least 3 points in each contest going back to the opener.
Missed field goals. Botched snaps. A protection breakdown allowing a 6'7 DL to get penetration. And then there's today with a Redskin running onto the field about 5 seconds before the 30 second clock was set to run out.
This latest installment of special teams error is not one of talent but simply of focus and concentration. How can you forget you are on the kick conversion unit as a player on the sidelines being plugged into the game?
Don't get me wrong, there's limitations to what this team can do in other areas and that showed up in the first half today, but Danny Smith is once again managing to fly under the radar in terms of the miscues of one of his units.
