Default Eagles @ Redskins: Predict The Score

This is how I think it will play out. I believe the Eagles will dominate early statistically. As the first half is winding down, I could see us down 13-6 and trying to drive for a TD to tie it up before halftime. Instead, Rex Grossman will throw a pick 6 to close the half, and we go into the locker room down 20-6.

In the second half, I believe our rushing attack will start to wear down the Eagles defense, allowing Grossman to air it out for a couple of scores to pull us even at 20-20. As the game wears on, our defense will start to get the better of the Eagles, and they will be hard pressed for second half points. Both sides will mix in a couple of FG to knot the score at 26 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, we win the coin toss. Brandon Banks finally breaks one, and the Redskins win 32-26 in overtime, with the Eagles never getting the ball.

*****I am a math nerd, and spent the last few days coming up with a formula based on every single aspect of football there I could think of, and used it to see how accurately it can predict a winner. This is my first time trying it, and it has us beating the Eagles 25-19. We'll see how that goes.

Additionally, it has the Panthers beating the crap out of the Falcons 31-13.

This is a big game. If they win they are right back in the mix. Their next three are the Boys, Bears and Cards, all winnable games for them. We win and Rex's prediction starts looking more and more realistic.

I think we see another ugly game. We'll see a score of something like 13-7 at half. Skins end up pulling this out 19-17 with a late FG and a defensive stand.

28-24 Redskins....if Vick survives the game.

24-17 Redskins if Vick is put to pasture.

There you go predicting the Redskins to score more than 31 again. They still have only scored 31 or more points 6 times in the last 5 years, and are the 2nd lowest scoring team going back to 1992.

The offense this year has not put up many points. The Redskin point totals so far this year: 28, 22, 16 and 17. That's an average of less than 21. And don't forget the defense is responsible for 7 of those points, so really the offense is averaging only 19 ppg. I believe that is less than last year.

They've shown that they can win, but not by scoring a lot. Expect a nip and tuck battle, a typically close NFC east affair.

Much as they had a chance to show the world they were breaking through by a win over Dallas and failed, I think they will do the same here, breathing new life into a downtrodden Eagles team rather than stepping on them when they are down. I realize that is the last 20 years talking, but 3 wins isn't enough yet to change my perspective.

    Eagles 21-19.

The Lions went from being the lowest scoring team for 40+ years to being one of the top scoring overnight. The past means nothing to the present. We also haven't had a shutout in 20 years. Doesn't mean we'll never have one again.

There's a big difference between Detroit and us, they have a good young quarterback and a top receiver that can score points. We don't. And their turnaround wasn't just overnight. Ours won't be either, and I wouldn't expect it in the middle of the season.

I never said we'll never score 31 or more again. But reason indicates it's not likely in a tight divisional game against a team we always struggle against. I would expect we'll break 31 sometime this season, but c'mon you gotta pick your spots better. Your prediction reeks of homerism, but what else should I expect on a place named for it's obsessive fanbase?

Redskins 28-10 (with the defense contributing a TD). Vicks plays the first half and can't continue.

This is a chance for us to pull away in the division; however, that chance will not materialize. Our offense still can't score and there is little hope of improving our red zone play. There is no respect from the Vegas folks. As noted elsewhere having a 19 ppg average is not going to win us many more games. The Eagles have no problem in this win. 27-17 Eagles. I sure hope I am wrong.

They went from 0-16 and one of the lowest scoring offenses in NFL history to one of the most potent offenses in the league, 5-0 and a contender in less than 3 seasons. That's overnight in the sports world. 3 years ago, they were lucky to score in the double digits, and now they seem to put up 40+ at will.

Trends are just another meaningless stat. Reason indicated we wouldn't be 3-1, leading the division, while Philly sat at the bottom at 1-4. But **** happens.

Very true, but I stand by my prediction. If it happens, I look like a genius. If it doesn't, I look like a homer. There's a lot worse that I get called every day

The key to this game in my opinion will be the first quarter. If we get up on the Eagles early by a couple of scores, it gives them all the more reason to press, become desperate, and fear the worst (the prospect of being 1-5). If they come out quick and gain momentum like they did a year ago on Monday night, then they'll start thinking that the 1-4 start is just an abberation, and they in fact are the "dream team." Typically, the Redskins of old have given teams who were dead in the water new life. We have an opportunity to step on the Eagles' necks. Will we do it, or leave the door open a crack and let them slam it down? History, the fact that we lack numerous playmakers on offense, and a questionable secondary leads me to believe the Eagles finally get on track.

Skill players don't win games by themselves.

The Eagles OL and DL are not up to par and so the performance of Vick has suffered.

Jackson and Maclin are useless if no one throws them the ball in good position.

The Redskins for the first time should have the advantage both in trying to run the ball and in getting to the quarterback on defense.

If the Redskins win this game it will be because Torain and Helu make plays and because Orakpo and Kerrigan along with Landry rock Michael Vick in the pocket and on the edge.

    Eagles 39
    Redskins 20

Hate to do this, but the Eagles had a players only meeting yesterday and they are very serious about this game. This is one that could be a blowout by the bad guys - not like last year though.

Players' only meetings can't fix their interior DL or shoddy OL. I do think they win, but no way they drop more than 24 points on us.

Last year the Redskins had by yardage the worst defense in the NFC. You are going to compare that unit to this one that is in the top 10 again?

Folks also have to factor in that Michael Vick has had a turnover ratio since the latter third of last season that is at a Grossman-like level from earlier in his career.

Vick is forcing balls, both because of the rush with a weak OL but also because the defense is not holding leads or allowing the offense to run the ball and control time of possession.

There was also a time where they had only scored 31 or more 6 times in a 75 game stretch prior to October 23, 2005. In that game, we came out and beat the San Francisco 49ers 52-17.

San Fran came to town with one win, just like Philly. Then they got their asses handed to them, and left with 1 win.

    Just like Philly.

Mike Shanahan has the longest memory of any coach around. You don't think he remembers getting embarrassed in prime time last time we played these clowns? You don't think he's going to want to run up the score on Raggedy Andy to kick him while he's down? I'd be willing to say if all goes right, we could beat these idiots by 20+ just to prove a point. That is, unless the NFL tells the refs to help the Dream Team find their glory

    You bet he does.....

"They came in here last year and kicked our rear ends. You know, 59-28, that was very embarrassing for our organization, as well as our coaching staff and our players. Even though only half of them will be out there, there's still half that were here a year ago"
