Helmet Official Game Thread: Redskins @ Rams

Bounceback Sunday...will our favoured sons respond to the loss in Dallas last Monday and take it to the Rams or will they once again give it up to a team they have no business loosing too?

Wow - is it our normal procedure to completely ignore the "official game thread"? ... lol
Apologies if this isn't the place for my recap.

Well my Theisman jersey MUST be lucky - 'cause I didn't wear it last week and luck is the ONLY thing that let us win this week. I'm not saying we didn't do enough to win it. But I AM saying we did enough to loose it, too.

I can't believe Hazlet had the gall to call that all-out blitz on 3rd and long again. We got beat as we should have. Let's see if he ignores the evidence this week, too. Special teams was a disaster - hey, you get what you pay for. And KShan's play calling in the second half is still trying to give the ball back to the opponent.

But Torain outperformed yet again. Moss made some nice grabs. The passrush was (as it should be against the Rams) wicked. Even D Hall made some nice plays as the secondary was the benefactor of MANY dropped passes. Bradford has sick skills, but touch doesn't seem to be one right now as he's afraid of hitting the deck on any play.

Overall I'm very unhappy with the win. I shouldn't be, but it looks like just the next game we'll be overcome by our own ineptitude, especially from the sidelines. A bye week doesn't fix that.

Get healthy, guys, and we'll see you on the other side. And in closing -= Fire Danny Smith

DS, we got a great chat room to hang out in during the game. That's why there is no action here during the game.

I don't really understand this part of your post DS....

Well my Theisman jersey MUST be lucky - 'cause I didn't wear it last week and luck is the ONLY thing that let us win this week. I'm not saying we didn't do enough to win it. But I AM saying we did enough to loose it, too.
You really think we 'just got lucky'? I think that's a curious way of looking at it. The Redskins had a comfortable lead and made mistakes in the 2nd half that certainly made it easier for the Rams to make a run at coming back. But the Redskins made the stops when they had to, they scored enough points that it was the Rams driving for a tying score with time running down, not the Redskins. What does luck have to do with any of that?

I understand the feeling you're trying to describe - I certainly had that 'impending sense of doom' I think you're relating at several points in the game. But the Redskins not playing error-free ball today is far from them winning because they were lucky or not deserving the win.

They outplayed the Rams for large parts of the game. And they deserved to win. My opinion.

    Mine too.

BTW, I couldn't find the standings anywhere. Could someone tell me who's in first place in the NFC Beast??

I will agree that they made some mistakes, but they also got reffed pretty hard. Those bogus PF's are an incredible luxury.

I know there were a lot of comments about how 'lucky' we were that their WR's couldn't hold onto the ball. And I can understand the 'what if-fing' in games where stuff like that happens. But 'what if' the Redskins hadn't been slipping all over the field during the Dallas game? We might have won handily. Games evolve a certain way - and there are very few times when the team that 'deserves to win' doesn't win. The one universal in all NFL games is that mistakes are made on both sides. The team that capitalizes on them best usually wins.

boone...when the other team is self destructing good teams capitalize on that and put the lesser lights away. for two consecutive weeks now...the Skins haven't done that. I do believe that is what people are thinking when they speak about luck.

I think another thing that needs to be mentioned is that we were getting some seriously lucky bounces our way on fumbles and bad snaps. We were lucky today as well.

Thx Elephant. I can't make the Chat 'cause Bootz is using the netbook to watch the CowPatties. huhuhuhuhuhuh. I"m lucky she didn't throw it!

I think y'all are missing my overall point. Whether you think we won this game on luck or not isn't the issue. I was pretty much making a joke there anyway. I believe we were lucky, but that isn't important right now.

What IS important is that the lessons from last week (And much of last season) were not learned and this team insists upon putting themselves in this situation again and again. When we meet better teams than a slumping Giants, a confused Arizona or a pathetic Rams, we'll pay for it.

The PF's on those punts & on Bradford were NOT bogus. They were entirely warranted. DHall I'll give you. And there were plenty of late shots by the Rams that weren't being called. NFL officiating is one step away from the NBA or FIFA... egh.

They capitilized on it today fan - we won, remember? They made more mistakes than we did, and they couldn't capitalize on the mistakes we made.

I just think, short of the kind of Tony Romo fumbling 5 times and having each one bounce back into his waiting arms kind of performance, luck has very little to do with NFL game outcomes. In almost every game, teams make horrible, potentially game-losing mistakes somewhere. The teams that can find a way to overcome them win - that's all I'm saying.

I hear ya, Boone. But I have to tell you, I'm happier if we loose and play well than if we win & stink it up. There was a lot of stinking today. The other two wins, not so much.

My problems aren't with "oops, m'bad" kinda mistakes, like D Hall's coverage on that fateful 3rd down. It's with fundamental mistakes in theory and design that are the problems which will doom your team. LIke not having the safety overhead to stop the 1st down. It's not Rex's pics, it's that they're consistently at times when we shouldn't be focused on throwing - or forced into incredibly overcovered routes while viable short options are ignored. It's in a grounding overthrow when a skip to the down RB would suffice.

I regret ever making the "lucky jersey" joke [no, I don't! hehe]. I'm talking about how this style of win won't last against better competition than one of the worst teams in the league.

You're fine DS - you don't have anything to 'regret'. I know what you meant. I'm just making it my mission to combat the idea that, when we do win it's because the other team sucked or due to Divine Intervention, but when we lose, it's all about our lack of talent and flawed players.

I'm not buying that. Most times, the team that deserves to win, wins.

And I think we're selling our guys short based on the memory of some glaring mistakes (which were the exception not the rule). Read the Game Notes thread I just posted. 7 sacks. That's S-E-V-E-N. In one game. We're leading the league in sacks. We had a great day on defense overall. And while the offense struggled, they did enough to secure a victory.

    That's all good news.

It's also really hard to make the argument that the team that led the entire game and won every statistical battle deserves to lose.

not what I'm saying. we won today cuz the defense prevailed. what I'm saying is that this game...like last weeks.....was gift wrapped. we should have won both games going away. we aren't doing that. and the primary reason is the offense. eventually....we're going to face quality teams playing well. the inability to drive the ball and score touchdowns with a full mix of offensive weapons is worrisome.

lol. Hey - I did shout outs to the passrush. Good stuff.

But I'll disagree about players - it's about system.

And I never said we deserve to loose. I said we won't win against Philly like this.

Ok - I'll give. I really do understand where y'all are coming from. I just see the opportunities and wish we'd take them!

The fix was in for the giants. Two PI penalties not called toward the end of the game.

    And this...

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ts-in-arizona/

It was just too obvious. Nope, can't let the Redskins be all alone in first place going into their bye. Not allowed to happen.
