Two short weeks ago, the 2-0 Washington Redskins were viewed by the football-watching world as an afterthought. Heading into tonight's Monday Night Football showdown with their arch-rival Dallas Cowboys, however, the burgundy and gold are suddenly a sexy story.

Like the emerging 3-0 Detroit Lions and Buffalo "Really?" Bills, the Redskins quick start has forced people to sit up and take notice.

It started in week one with their surprisingly convincing, 28-14 home win over divisional nemesis the New York Giants. In that game, the Redskins were, quite simply, the better team. Forget the "Giants were injured" angle. If you watched the NFL at all this week, you know about "any given Sunday." The Giants had owned the Redskins, for a very long time, and no one would have been surprised had said ownage continued.

It did not. Emphatically....

Excellent job, Om. "Opportunity Game" kinda sums up nicely what I have been thinking this week.

You are often good at nailing what I'm thinking about things regarding Redskins football. A loss tonight would be disappointing but not hope-crushing while a win would help confirm, or at least underpin, thoughts I'm having about how well the Redskins "metamorphosis" into a competitive football is progressing.

Once again, my compliments, amigo. :)

I've written "opportunity game" pieces a few times over recent years, but have yet to have the team step up and win one. Really look forward to the having a chance to write a "okay so now what we've stepped up, here's what we have to do to STAY here" piece one of these days. Later this week would be outstanding. :)

Hopefully after tonite. I'm the same as you, constantly waiting and almost always disappointed. If they can win tonite, on the road, I'll start to think this team is for real

According to Las Vegas Insider, most all the casinos in Vegas have dropped the line on the game. Dallas is now a 3.5 point favorite. The Skins are attracting attention-and money-from sports bettors.

Good stuff brother OM.

I think we win tonight by hook or by crook…..then we lose next week to the winless Rams. It’s a classic banana peel game. Hope I’m wrong on the last part.

That's homefield advantage and nothing more. I hope we live up to it

I have nothing useful to add here other than to say that it would be so freakin sweet to win this game. I have no idea if we will, but man it would be sweet.

I have no idea what to expect tonight.

I couldn't agree more. This is a mile marker. I can't wait for kickoff.

The Redskins of the last ten years would choke like dogs. I hope this truely is a new team

This is the year Om.

In the past, you could look at this team, the bad coaching, archaic offense, and lack of talent.....and just know we had no place in the league.

This year we are playing winning football, and have even discovered the forward pass. We are dangerous.

Beautifully written.

At 3-0, while the Giants would technically be one behind us in the win column, it would be almost as if they are 2 back of us when you consider our head-to-head win.

For a team in Washington that has stunk inside it's own division for the longest time, having a nice little buffer zone within the division early in the year can go a long way towards helping us play some meaningful December football.

Going 3-0 in Dallas tonight might arguably rank as one of this team's biggest wins in the last 12 years. Let's hope it happens.

We've lost the last 4 games in Dallas by only a combined 11 points.

We have history of playing them tough as hell there. I'm looking for us to get over the hurdle tonight.

I think there are two keys to a Redskins win. Our DBs have to play much better. I think we'll go after Romo a lot, and our corners and safeties need to make sure we don't get burned while we're doing it. And we need to have a good night on the ground. A solid outing by Hightower and Helu will force Dallas to try and stuff the box and not blitz Grossman all night long.

Been getting a lot of mouth from Eagles fans today. Guess they are really worried about being two games behind if we win tonight. Would enjoy killing two birds (Eagles fans and Cowboys) with one team. Want this one so bad.

We lost 7-6 at Dallas in 2009. We won there in 2008 though.

If we win, I can't wait to see shango posting his rant on youtube. I'll post it here if it happens.
