Default I went for one thing, and ended up with...

My wife just sent me to Kroger to get some ice cream for our youngest's birthday party. $50 later...

I still can't figure out what happened. I got some wine, cheese, yogurt, a birthday card, there was some GREAT deals on skinless boneless chicken breasts, so I got a bunch of those too.

Ever go to the store and end up with WAY more than you went for?

I never go to the grocery for one thing. I just go to the grocery and go 'what do I want'. Not recommending that approach btw, just sayin'

Hate that! I always end up paying a buttload, and I'm left thinking what did I buy? D'oh! I'm also kind of surprised they have Krogers in VA!

    Also, LOL @ waterfall sculpture.

The worst thing is when you go to the store for one thing, and wind up leaving with everything in the store, except for the ******* thing you went there for in the first place!!!

And then you have to go back!!!

Not that I ever did some dumb **** like that. But I've heard about it.

I used to do that kind of thing a lot but I managed to break myself of it.

1.) I try to make sure I've just eaten and am still full when I go.

2.) I try to have a list that I check off as I buy what I went there to buy.

3.) I try to avoid bringing more than a few dollars more than what my list will cost and remember not to carry a credit card or checkbook with me.

I basically have to get in my own way-otherwise I may go berserk.

I always bring a list to the grocery store, but usually that is the basics that I need to get, I'll get other things as I go up and down the aisles, especially in the meat dept., as it depends on what's on sale and what my whims say I want to make for dinner for the next week.

Also, you're right, never go to the grocery store hungry, it's a good way to end up with way more than you need, including some junk food.

I'm fine in the grocery store, but I hardly ever spend a dollar at the Dollar Tree. Sam's is the worst for me. I have to go online and look up the prices of the things I really use and know are a good deal and stick to a certain amount.

Do what I do. Go to the grocery store on your bike. It saves gas and you only get what you need. I haven't been able to do this for the last two weeks or so due to illness, but that will pass soon enough. I don't recommend this strategy on the hottest and coldest days, but it is very effective for impulsive buying.

I went to Harris Teeter this morning to get bread, nothing else. While on my way to the register, I passed by Red Bull. I was exhausted so I grabbed one. Before I got to the line, I went to get some coffee for my wife. After I grabbed that, I realized we had no creamer, so I went to the back and got creamer. On the way to the register, I saw ice cream was on sale, so I grabbed a carton.

At this point, I had almost no way to carry anything, so I had to go get a basket and dump all my stuff in it. Right there where they stack the baskets, there was a sign for $5.99 ribeyes. I shook my head, because I knew I had to grab a couple. Then I had to get some vegetables. After that, I was finally finished.

So I went there with all intentions of spending about $2. My final total was almost $40. I knew my wife would flip out, so I had to do a quick dump of most of the stuff I grabbed. I ended up putting everything back but the bread, coffee, creamer and Red Bull. So I walk up to the register and see a pack of BC, and I get headaches quite often, so I did grab a pack of that lol.

I still ended up with more then I went for, but I cut out a lot of my impulse grabs once it sank in what was happening. The best part was when I loaded up the stuff. The first things on the belt were BC, coffee and Red Bull. The lady looks at me and says, "Going on a bender?"

I thought that immediately when I read the first post. One of the most epic threads in ES history.

I'm a robot when going to any store. Weather it be for food, stuff for the house, or personal goods.

I know exactly what I need, where it is, and go in and get out as fast as I can.

I usually have the intentions, but somehow when I'm by myself, thing go awry. Oddly enough, when I go with my wife, we keep each other in check like shopping nazis. Apart, we are the worst impulse buyers in the world. I've never bought a waterfall sculpture like Mike, but I have bought some things similar and waaaay worse that I thought were awesome, then got home and wanted to kick my own ass Just like Mike, I fall victim to target and their aura of awesomeness. It's like they know exactly what random and pointless things you'll buy, then load up the shelves with them.

When this happens at IKEA, it's a magnitude of 10. Did $500 there this weekend for two $150 dressers.

I sometimes use the no basket or cart policy. It rarely works. Usually I end up handing items to the kids until they can't walk, then we leave.

Umm... This reminds me of a video I saw of a mother stuffing NY strip steaks in her kids jackets and walking out of the store without paying.
