Default SI.com: Draft steals and reaches

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...#ixzz1L7au4FXn

    Steals

Leonard Hankerson/WR/Washington/Round 3/No. 79: Hankerson's inconsistency and untimely drops pushed him into the third round, yet he possesses the physical skills to be a productive second wide out on the NFL level. He will immediately help the receiver needy Redskins.

Roy Helu/RB/Washington/Round 4/No. 105: Helu was the second skill player the Redskins chose in round four. He's a triple threat running back who will compete for the starting position.

Chris Neild/NT/Washington/Round 7/No. 253: The fact Neild was the second-to-last player selected is mind-blowing. He's a 320-pound slugger who brings his lunch pail to work every day and is a prospect coaches will love. Don't be surprised if he's starting by the end of his rookie season.

    Reaches
    None for the Redskins.

Wow. Three players considered as "steals" and no reaches.

Here's another grade from NBC Sports. We got the best grade in the NFC East.

It is very refreshing to see that. And remember we still have undrafted rookies to sign too. As soon as this lock out ends Shanny and co can continue their work on improving this team. We had three undrafted rookies that made the final roster and contributed last year.

I've been popping in on a couple of other team fan forums draft threads to see what their fans were saying about the Redskins picks. The largest NY Giants fan board were across-the-board both surprised and impressed with the picks. Interesting.

Arizona Cardinals fans were upset quickly-a number of them wanted Kerrigan. Sorry, Cards. Tee-hee.

I'm giving it a 2-4 year window. Looking for improvement in all areas. Redskins, you're on the clock.

From the link Elephant posted. Wow. What a difference. We get 7 Rookie starters out of one draft and this will be one of the best drafts in history. Hard to believe that could happen.

"The name of the game for Washington was trading down to recoup picks lost during the forgettable Vinny Cerrato era. But the Redskins still came away with good players. Entering the draft with the NFL's worst-looking roster, they emerged with upwards of seven rookie-year starters. That's exactly the kind of rebuilding movement Washington needs to undergo. Ryan Kerrigan, Leonard Hankerson, and Roy Helu were extremely productive per-play in college. In the late rounds, Markus White and Chris Neild stand out as rock-solid picks. The only reason Mike Shanahan's club doesn't get a full "A" is because it didn't pick up a quarterback."

The only major reaches were Gomes and Robinson - but STs were a huge issue last year, so maybe the Shanahans wanted major contributors for that unit regardless of their rankings.

LOVE the Hankerson pick, I think he was the steal of the draft. Even with all his "inconsistency" and "untimely drops," he still managed to become the leading WR in Miami history, breaking several receiving records in the process.

There are some HUGE names at WR from UM in the NFL...and Hankerson beat them all.

I'm just glad to see some adults in charge again. You know damn well if we had had vinny and danny in there, we'd have Gabbert right now, and quite possibly used picks to move up to get him
