    Default Surprise Player of 2011?

Need something to take my mind off the lockout...

So, who do you think will surprise us all, ala Banks last year?

I'm thinking Jarmon possibly. Malcolm Kelly?

All right, all right! Who do you think will break out?

    Donovan McNabb.

I think McNabb stays in Washington, starts the season, and puts up career numbers. Call me crazy, but its just a hunch I have.

I would be happy with this. It looks like things are going to come down to the wire with the CBA, so trading him is unlikely at this point. Plus, I don't think Shanahan has the gumption to just let him go, essentially admitting he was wrong. We'll eat that contract this season.

I would also like to see Malcom Kelly step up since he has had a year to address any and all of his medical concerns. We'll find out quickly if he can stay healthy.

    Surprise player?

If I had my choice as to whom I would like to see step up in a meaningful way, it would be Anthony Bryant. He came on strong toward the end of the year so we'll see how that transfers to the new season.

I would also love to see Big All become a surprise player and play to his potential.

But, I think Ryan Torain becomes the big surprise next year by staying healthy all season and running for ~1400 yards. If we can pick up a great complimentary back for him, I think he could be that surprise player!

    Fred Davis.

Both Shanahans will finally notice he's around, he's big, and he has good hands.

And his yards after catch stat in 2010 was dramatically better than the previous two years. (8.4 YAC versus mid fivesYAC)

They will realize that it's probably a good idea to start making him an integral part of the passing game.

He'll have a "Where's this guy been hiding?" type season

I will be honest enough to admit just a tiny bit of wishful thinking might be a part of this.

You may be right. I just saw Chad Pennington got injured, which may mean that McNabb's trade value has increased with one more vet off the market. If we can get a decent pick for him, we have to think about it, don't we?

I going to step outside the line a little bit and say that Kevin Barnes will be a major factor next year. Carlos is most likely gone and there are not too many quality replacements on the market. We could over spend for Asomugha, but he will go to a team in contention, and Barnes will need to step in. Not sure that he will play well, but I have my fingers crossed. If we were going to keep Los, we would have tendered him. We did not, so I do not think this staff values him at all. I think they have their replacement already in mind.

I also think we may see Riley become more of a force in the middle and Lichtensteieger (or however you say his name) will step in and play well. I think Licht and/or Montgomery will have to. There is no way we can find starters for both Guard positions, Center, and RT. Licht did not look too bad at the end of last year. That was his first year starting as well.

I will second Haynesworth as well. I say we cannot trade him because of his attitude, but we find a solid NT to pair with Bryant and Haynesworth gets kicked outside. I think he will be happier out there and will play well. Maybe it's a dream but Carriker, stud NT, and Haynesworth seems like a pretty good line to me. I am absolutely positive that he does not get cut like so many of the media believes is going to happen.

    Brian Mitchell.

    Yes, THAT Brian Mitchell.

He has been doing P90X and the guy is ripped! The Haynesworth saga was the straw that broke the camel's back. I have it on reliable information, that B-Mitch is making a comeback, to prove a point.

He has a tryout scheduled next week at Redskins Park as soon as the lockout is over.

He WILL be signed to a contract. He WILL make the final roster.
    And, he WILL be effective.

He plans to donate his salary to charity.

    Offense - Malcolm Kelly.

    Defense - Anthony Bryant.

I am going to say Jeremy Jarmon also. I think he has the skills to be a starting DE for us next year. The question I have is Jarmon and Carriker are the Ends, who is our big guy in the middle?

I see a 'new' big guy in the middle. Someone that will split time with Anthony Bryant. I think maybe Jenkins, but hopefully a rookie. I see Jarmon as the guy that is going to come in for relief of Haynesworth and Carriker.

The more I think about it, the more that I believe Kevin Barnes is our breakout player. To me, it just make so much sense.

I don't know who it will be, but I have this strange hunch that we will have a young receiver step it up HUGE this year. Just one of those strange hunches you get for absolutely no reason at all, but you know in your gut that you're right.

I think we'll see the team draft a NT, and rotate them in with Anthony Bryant. Stephen Paea & Phil Taylor are the two big NT names in this draft. We could also see the team take a flyer on Kenrick Ellis out of Hampton in the 7th round.

The clear winner here. The rest of us sucked eggs.

Although, along with the "Where's this guy been hiding?" type season,
he also had a "What's he been hiding?", "or hitting", if you will, type season.

As for my own pick, Bitchell let me down, twice. Once, by not making a comeback attempt. And secondly, for returning to the radio. It's hard to listen to such stupidity coming from someone you don't believe to be literally stupid.

This wasn't bad either. At least the Riley part.

The player that surprised me was Adam Carriker especially his dramatic improvement in getting after the QB-from 1.5 sacks in 2010 to 5.5 in 2011.

Riley's performance was more surprising in 2011. Davis was a top pick and produced in 2010 down the stretch.

The only surprise with Davis was his poor judgment off the field.
