Default How Many Redskins Do You Take Forward?

    My list:

    Offense:

    McNabb
    Trent Williams
    Chris Cooley
    Fred Davis
Anthony Armstrong (as a #3 receiver)
Ryan Torain (as a backup TB)

    Defense:

    Carriker
    Haynesworth
    Orakpo
    Alexander
    Landry
    Moore

    That's 12 players.

Seems there's a talent deficit in town.

I agree on no Fletcher. Need youth and strength in the middle. Yes to Banks - he is a game changer. Neutral on Rocky. I would not keep Landry - you can see why tonight.

With all respect, if you wouldn't keep Fletcher, you're certifiable. I don't care HOW old he is.

Agree with HH. BB, I think injecting youth is a great idea, but we need a couple of vets to teach them the ropes and show the noobs how to act professionally and get the job done.

Who better than Fletch for that?

And you keep Landry too. Have to. His game tonight is more due to how Haslett is using him than anything else. He has been the defensive MVP so far this year.

Think we can get Wade to take his place?

Although in fairness to Haslett, this team doesn't have the personnel to run the defense he is being asked to run. Not effectively on a continuous basis. I have not doubt Haslett is part of the issue but he isn't all of it.

With all due respect Bulldog, that's got to be the silliest thing I've ever heard you say. I'll just chalk it up to frustration with tonight's major crapping of the bed, and to cocaine being a hell of a drug.

What you're proposing would essentially make us an expansion team. Sure a bunch of the guys we have suck and/or are bad fits for the systems we're running on both sides of the ball. However, your throw out the babby with the bathwater philosophy discounts the synergistic effect that often happens in football when adding a good/elite player to an area on the team. The effect Haynesworth has had on our defensive line is a good example of this. I have to think that replacing Rabach at C and adding a WR with some size or a RB with some burst would have a similar effect, though probably not as pronounced as Hayneworth on defense.

If we do as you propose, we could add those players and would likely have worse overall units after all is said and done...which would accomplish what, exactly? IMHO it would be better to bide our time with half a loaf in some areas until we're able to get someone better to replace the player in question.

It's not much fun, but patience should be the order of the day in rebuilding this team.

You know when I saw this thread I initially thought you have to keep more than that because you can't replace that many players all at once. And to a certain extent that is true. But I just heard a comment from one of the announcers that the Eagles replaced 13 of 27 defensive players this past year, and they seem to be doing alright.

I'm all for mass changes in personnel if they can make it work.

China, the Eagles had 13 picks in this last years draft, including 7 in the first 4 rounds. The used their first 5 picks all for defense. That is what it takes to overhaul a unit like that.

It won't happen in Washington as long as we are trading picks for guys in their 30's.

I said it would take three or four years in another thread. They will get there, but we're going to need to be patient.

I stand by my Fletcher comment. He turns 36 during this offseason. I watched him on purpose tonight. At times, he was great. At times, he looked his age. If we can get some trade value in March, we take it.

I'd add Doughty as a special teams guy, because he was the only one who showed up in the first 18 minutes.

It just makes me sick the way the Eagles fleeced us. They have a QB twice as good as McNabb and they got our 2nd rd pick next year. We should be able to file a grievance with the league over this

I'm not going to overreact to what happened last night, but i'm not going to bash anyone for doing so either. I think i'm still shell shocked. We need a turnover over of about 5 players in the off season and we could be a legit contender for the playoffs next year.

    Imo, we need:

    2 O Linemen (RT&RG)
    2 D Linemen (DT&RE)
1 WR (With Santana Moss moved to the Slot)

To help accomplish this, Fred Davis, Andre Carter and Clinton Portis would be on the trading block. I really like AC, but he just doesn't fit in the 3-4. He's not quick enough to play OLB and not big enough to play Defensive End. I like FD also, but we don't need two receiving TE's either. CP is kinda iffy for me. His blocking is sorely being missed this year and i would like to see what a healthy CP would do in this running game for a full year.

Anyhow, we should be able to get 2 or 3 players in Free Agency, 1 in the draft and 1 with a trade.

I don't think a complete overhaul is a terrible idea. Of course I was hoping we'd have started it THIS year so that next year we could actually expect to be better.

I'm sick of avoiding short-term pain at the expense of long-term gain.

Anyway, going forward, I think I'd spend my drafts building up the lines and spot fill the backfields with free agents until we can actually draft some of those. The lines have to be established, and they're the units that need to spend the most time growing and learning together, especially the OL.

And we need picks. I would trade Cooley or Davis if I could get a 3rd rounder for either. There's no reason a team this lacking in talent everywhere else needs depth at TE. Hell, I'd trade anyone but I don't think most of our guys are worth anything on the block. If we could get a ham sammich for Haynesworth I'd take it. 6th, 7th rounder ... whatever. Just get something.

But yeah, this team is extremely devoid of talent, and I think Bulldog's list is probably about right. Maybe even a little conservative.

I'd put Cooley on the trading block and see what I could get for him, I'd hang on to Jammal Brown and give him a chance to get healthy. I'd keep Fletcher, McIntosh, Banks, Hall and Carlos Rogers.
