Default Redskins Insider: Donovan McNabb: We can't win without Haynesworth

Quarterback Donovan McNabb says the Redskins are a better team with Albert Haynesworth than they are without him. And as trade talks again encircle the defensive tackle, McNabb said the Redskins "can't win without him." "He plays a major part in our defense and everbody knows that," McNabb said Tuesday afternoon during his weekly radio show on ESPN 980. McNabb said players have grown accustomed to the drama that seems to follow Haynesworth wherever he goes, but it hasn't become a distraction. "Albert is one of our brothers in the locker room...he understands, 'Hey, I got to put the time and effort in," McNabb said. "We can't win without him. I think he'll be here. I hope he'll be here." Speaking publicly for the first time since last week's preseason finale, McNabb said that his ankle is still not 100 percent, but he'll be ready to play against the Cowboys

    Basically.

Many a team has won a Superbowl without Albert Haynesworth. Sorry, but no single piece of the puzzle is worth the crap this knucklehead brings. Just a holdover Vinny screw up. Can't wait for this page to be turned.

I agree completely, and McNabb needs to shut his pie hole, and worry about getting the the new system he's in down to second nature.

McNabb is just doing the "leader" thing here, not talking out of school about anyone that currently on the team.

It'll be interesting to see his comments once Fat man is gone

it's gonna be fun around DC for years:

    - rebuild the entire D-line with real players and not injured octogenarians

    - find a real center, right guard and backups

    - find the next starting QB

    - find some real running backs once Portis breaks in half

    - find some dominant OLBs for the 3-4

    - find a replacement for Fletcher in a year or two

    - find a playmaking free safety

    - find a pair of starting wideouts that actually scare a defense

Allen deserves some credit for trying to patch over years of idiotic personnel management practices. but...with the exception of Trent Williams and maybe Jamal Brown....he's applied just that - patches.

yup...it's gonna be a fun ride.

portis is in great shape right now and is excited to play
    rak isnt dominant?
    where is fletcher going?

i see this year as a statement that we are here and we are going to win.
    I agree, Mike.

Portis is in the best shape, maybe of his career, certainly since he came here. And he's got a chip on his shoulder, and something to prove to all those (idiots, sorry but they are) who said he was done. Shanny knows how to use him too. With all due respect to the great one, Joe Gibbs, bulking him up and trying to use him between the tackles all the time didn't make much sense.

Rak is our DeMarcus Ware. Plain and simple.

And who knows how many years Fletch has left. I'm inclined to say not many, but at the same time, I certainly haven't seen anything that makes me say he's on any kind of a downhill slide.

The McNabb situation is interesting. I think I'll reserve comment on his future until a little later.

I know you're fed up with losing, but you're smart enough to know this doesn't happen overnight. This season is all about evaluation. We can all recite Allen's famous statement.... "The future is now," but realistically, Shanny will do his best to win while weeding out those that don't fit his vision of what will get us back to glory.

I fully expect us to do much better then last season, maybe even threaten to take the NFC East being the division is kind of weak, but little more. 2011 were gonna be good, 2012 we're gonna be a monster. No instant gratification this time around, as it's been tried for a decade, and look where we're at.

maybe. but Rak wasn't dominant. very good perhaps...but not dominant. you do realize that when it mattered most...he didn't have a single sack against an NFE team last year?

mcnabb can't make it through preseason! happy he's here, but his proclivity for injury was my main concern from day 1.

portis is the only quality rb we have right now. LJ danced in the hole too much and didn't show me any burst. williams? no burst either. to me this all means more heavy use of Portis.

fletcher is awesome. no argument. but how long can he last?

the names don't matter as much as the notion that this team still has wholesale changes to make.

btw....even I have had my fill of AH. get rid of the dude. he's become a royal pain-in-the-arse. DM confused me today - he inserted himself into the drama between Shanny and AH. why?

miles...no argument on playing better. guess I'm asking if you think a long-term foundation is really being built or whether this is mostly smoke and mirrors. I can't tell to be honest.

eh. who gives a rat's arse! just win this Sunday fellas.....ok?

The fact that Shan's has allowed this to bleed into the season is his first failure.

    Hope it's the last.

The Colts can't win without Peyton Manning.

The Redskins CAN win without Albert Haynesworth.

McNabb consciously or unconsciously gave Haynesworth a word of support for his ego that he didn't need.

It's still less than certain that Haynesworth contributes at a high level in 2010.

But the time to have traded or cut him was before the draft.

Then we could have either signed another free agent DL, made a trade for a veteran 3-4 DT or taken someone in Round 4 or Round 6 of the draft.

Donovan McNabb, professional quarterback, in public is going to speak in support the other 52 men on the roster.

    Need Haynesworth to win? Check.

Very excited about the receivers? Check.

    As he should.
