    Helmet OG ERIC COOK

    OG ERIC COOK

    Height: 6'6"
    Weight: 318 lbs.
    Arm Length: 33 7/8 in.
    Hand Size: 9 3/4 in.
    College: New Mexico
    Conference: Mountain West

NFL COMBINE ANALYSIS: Cook has been a quality offensive lineman for the Lobos over the past three years and has started at all three positions: tackle, guard and center. He may be a little tall for the center position as he would be facing a lot of nose tackles that would have a natural leverage advantage on him. He is a natural knee bender that does a good job of playing with a good pad level and will leverage his blocks. He can struggle when opponents get to, or past, the edge and he needs to recover and square back up on the block. He lacks the lateral range to play on the edge and is best suited to play guard or center where he has the potential to eventually develop into an adequate starter.

Should we be concerned that at least two of the new picks have knee braces in all of their photos? I take it that these are far more obvious in the college game because of the uniform rules allowing players to wear low socks, but I do have to say I find it a little disconcerting.

Since about 90% of olinemen wear knee braces these days, I'd say no.

We started wearing them back when I was still playing. It's standard operating procedure for most programs these days.

I passed on wearing them though. My concern was that although it would prevent you from getting your knee torn up if you caught a chop block or had someone roll up on you from the side it "might" cause your leg to break instead since the brace limited lateral movement. *shrug* I guess a break would be easier to rehab than a ligament tear.

Cook looks to be a practice squad player. The transition from center at New Mexico to guard in the NFL is a steep climb for anyone.

No way, Center to Guard is the easy transition to make - you go from having all the OLine calls, audibles and blocking responsibilities to nothing. OG to OC would be extremely difficult.

I'm talking about the step up in competition. Cook didn't impress with his strength despite his frame. Going up against strong DTs that get leverage is tough for a 6'6 player that is learning a new position and will be pressed to change everything from his stance to his hand positions.
