Almost gametime. I'll save my bitching for Monday-Saturday.

However, making AP inactive is a horrible decision. In more ways than one.

Sitting a healthy AP is pure stupidity on Jay`s part, dumbassery 101. Also seems to me he intends to throw the ball way more than run it. today. Hopefully there`s a legit reason other than the HC's gut feeling but a win today over rules everything.

Gruden’s roster construction is really challenging to understand.

We are carrying a guy in Colt McCoy who hasn’t won a football game since 2014 in the NFL.

But Gruden treats him as if he is John Elway.

He should go on IR this week to open up a roster spot.

The move to bring Holtz up and release Davis was premature.

Again, teams can go a week or two with 2 tight ends on the active roster if need be.

According to reports Reed was close to making it back this past week.

And if Reed’s return is in fact delayed we need to put him on IR at some point and find a better option than JP Holtz for the final 13-14 games.

He hasn't had a Plan B for much of anything since he got here. Gruden 2019 sound just like Gruden 2014 at press briefings.

Burner’s Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone here at BGO. We hope your week is going well. Hello to everyone on social media. We’d love to have you as a member here and become a part of the family.

The Redskins kicked off the 2019 season on Sunday with an impressive first half, but the second half was an abysmal failure as they lost the season opener to the Eagles. Today we assign grades and make a prediction for the next game. Also, we have a bonus for you this week – a 2020 mock draft!

BBQ would love to see your grades and evaluations each week if you are so inclined to do so. Too, your predictions for the next game are always appreciated. And, if you’re wanting to do more, feel free to put up 2020 a mock draft. There are no restrictions here. Go for it!

    Upcoming Dates:
    - Days until the Cowboys game: 4
    - Days until the Giants game: 18
    - Days until the Vikings game: 43
    - Days until the bye: 60

    Week One: Grades and Evaluations

    Offense:
It would be easy to place a lot of blame on the offense after the second half debacle, but we can’t ignore that they were able to dominate in the first half. Putting up 27 points against one of the best defenses in the league is solid and it was done on their home turf. Case Keenum threw for 380 yards and was nothing short of spectacular. The rushing offense was nonexistent and this lowers the grade. A missed opportunity in the second half would’ve led to another easy touchdown for Terry McLaurin, but that play really doesn’t lower the grade. A loss hurts and while we can’t grade on potential, BBQ does see some positives to build on for this season.
    BBQ Grade: B-

    Defense:
Much like the offense, this story is about what happened in the first half and what occurred after halftime. The defense simply collapsed in the second half and seemed helpless against the Eagles onslaught. Poor performances from Quinton Dunbar, Montez Sweat, Jimmy Moreland, Ryan Kerrigan, Josh Norman, and Jon Bostic plagued the defense as the game progressed. This defense is considered to be a solid unit, but they were far from it in the second half.
    BBQ Grade: D

    Special Teams:
Tress Way continues to amaze and had a fantastic game. Dustin Hopkins was perfect. The kick and punt returns could’ve been better, but there were no glaring mistakes.
    BBQ Grade: A

    Coaching:
If BBQ was able to grade on the first half alone, the report card would be glowing with high marks. Unfortunately for the Redskins coaching staff, the grades must incorporate the entire game. In the latter part of the third quarter when the Eagles took a 21-20 lead, the defense desperately needed a rest, but the offense ran three straight passing plays – all of them incompletions. The defense was quickly back on the field and the game was basically decided at that juncture. The defense made no adjustments in the second half as the Eagles dominated. A late Redskins touchdown made the score respectable, but it really had no impact at the end.
    BBQ Grade: D

Week Two Prediction: Cowboys at Redskins
The rivalry resumes. Which Redskins team will show up on Sunday? The first half Redskins? The second half Redskins? The Cowboys looked good last Sunday, but it was against a hapless Giants team. Can the Redskins stop the Cowboys offense? If the Cowboys score early and often, it could get ugly for the Burgundy And Gold quickly. BBQ is not too hopeful, but it could be closer than some may think.
Cowboys vs. Redskins: FedEx Field, Sunday 1pm EDT
    Television: FOX
BBQ Prediction: Cowboys 30 Redskins 20
    Current BBQ Record: 1-0

    In-Season Mock Draft One
Round One: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
Round Three: Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford
Round Four: Ashtyn Davis, FS, California
Round Four (Comp): Tipa Galea’i, OLB, Utah St.
Round Five: Logan Stenberg, OG, Kentucky
Round Seven: Kelly Bryant, QB, Missouri
    Round Seven: Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty

Those last 7 points were in garbage time. Let’s not advance those stats from the last 2-3,minutes because it obscures the fact that from a few minutes before the half until the 58 minute mark the offense didn’t even threaten to score.

Overall, I liked the performances of the rookies and a number of the younger players.

What is painfully obvious though is that this team has two vocal leaders, Adrian Peterson and Jonathan Allen and without either of them in uniform mid way through the game when adversity struck the Redskins sideline looked like they were attending a funeral and the players on the field were almost afraid to make a play.

Sunday to me was analogous to a boxing match where an underdog fighter comes out and crosses up the favorite with a couple of jabs but by the 5th round order had been restored and the final TKO and score of rounds didn’t really tell the tale of how much the winner really took the heart out of the challenger.

Truth be told, I didn't "advance" anything. Not sure what you are talking about. This is why I encourage everyone to put up some grades, evals, analysis, etc.

I like your analysis overall. Thanks for making some very good points.

    Well, it's like this.

As has been our bad fortune far too often, a perfect storm converged to help sink our guys last Sunday.

Jon Allen, and then Caleb Brantley(sp) going down, hurt more than we realized. We go from a 5 man rotation, to 3. Three guys who haven't played many snaps yet. On a warm early season day. In trying to keep the final 3 as fresh as possible, the went much of the second half using only 2 linemen and an extra backer, or db. That's what the Eagles ran through. And that's what put us on our heels. Sure, I think we could have come up with something that would have worked better than what we did. But those 2 injuries drastically altered the original gameplan. And, with a coaching staff that had the letter "b" removed from the alphabet, that's a disaster. This group of guys hasn't been together long enough yet to know how to weather a big momentum switch. Once that snowball starts downhill, Murphy's Law seems to kick into high gear.

Added to that, was the offense. One that just missed on a few plays in the second half that could have drastically changed the outcome.
Obviously, the overthrow. Long as makes the catch, that's 6pts. Confident Hopkins would had hit the 7th.
I remember one of the 3rd downs. Less than 5, I believe. They had Thompson open in the flat with all day to run. But, Moses missed his block, and immediate pressure forced Case to through it a little early, going backwards, of his back foot. The pass fell just short.
    The penalties.

Obviously, the 3 and outs only magnified the entire defense getting gassed. Especially the 3 remaining big men.

I know it sucks. I firmly believe a better staff would have found a way to at least put up more resistance. But, we have what we have.

The team has enough talent to win. At least on the roster. Whether they have enough to make up for the mostly poor coaching, has yet to be seen.

I am ever hopeful that the next play/game/season, will be the one that brings on Boone's, "Turn Around".

Looking forward to beating the baby seal killers from Dallass this Sunday. HTTR

The continuing mental mistakes by Moses and the other OL in taking bad penalties is something a coach like McVay or Reid would get fixed.

It wouldn’t drag on into a second season.

These guys in that regard haven’t improved at all with the offseason work.

It’s really amazing to me that the Redskins can’t seem to find a two way TE that can stay healthy and haven’t had one since Cooley circa 2005-8.

Reid's Chiefs were the #1 penalized team last year. With holding and false starts being in the top 3 for the team.

    Yep.

I am still trying to figure out the team’s fascination with Casey Dunn as OL. Roster, inactive, practice squad, waived.........

    Rinse, repeat since 2017.

I would have had another S or TE to develop on the PS.
