Several seasons back, @Docsandy made a generous donation of some classic items to BGO. Thanks so much Sandy!

One of the items donated was a Redskins keyring collection, many of them are one of a kind collected during the glory days of the first Gibbs era.

That gift sparked in my little brain an idea for a new weekly contest, which we've cleverly titled 'Keys to the Game'.

To play, all you have to do is post in this thread. Each week, before kickoff, let BGO know what you think the key play, player, or moment that will turn out to be the 'turning point' or 'deciding factor' in the game will be. Remember that others may have similar ideas, so be as specific as you can. Give us the WHAT, the WHO, and the WHEN. You don't have to assume the Redskins win to make your guess - you can base it on an opponent's performance.

Do not describe the entire game or post a litany of things that could happen. The winning entry will be the member who makes a concise, clear prediction of a key play, player, or moment that turns the tide of the game.

For example, 'Late in the 4th quarter, with the Skins holding a slim 3 point lead and Dallas driving for the winning score, Moreland intercepts a tipped Prescott pass to seal the win'. You could also predict a specific player's performance such as 'The key to the game will be a record 5 sack performance by Ryan Kerrigan, one of which results in a fumble returned for a TD'.

The BGO member who, in staff's estimation, nails it or comes closest to predicting the 'key to the game' will receive a vintage Redskins keyring in the mail the next week.

Get predicting!

PS - if you were a 2018 winner, and have not done so, please contact @Om via PM and give him your mailing address so we can settle up!

Surprisingly, Redskins jump out to an early lead. As Eagles look like they're about to finish a game-winning drive, Jimmy Moreland intercepts a Carson Wentz pass late in the 4th and the Skins steal one in a squeaker.

Late in the 4th quarter of a game that started slow, the Redskins are driving into Eagles territory for a potential game winning score, when Case Keenum makes an ill advised throw, which is intercepted. The Eagles run out the clock, and win the game.

It was really hard not to take the homer approach on this one, but given ours and Keenum's history, not at all outlandish unfortunately.

Tough to legitimately pick the Redskins given both teams recent history.

Key to the game: the Redskins offensive line. The OL gets very little push in the running game forcing many 3rd and longs. The Redskins defense on the other hand is stout and keeps the Redskins in the game until late in the 3rd quarter when the OLine misses an assignment causing a turnover in the backfield in Redskins territory. The Eagles capitalize and the Redskins lose 20-13.

Redskins offense struggles early before finding a groove in the second half on the back of Guice.

Fortunately Wentz is rusty and our D plays lights out (point to prove!), keeping the Eagles honest and the game low scoring.

It's a close game, low scoring.

13-10 Eagles who beat us on a late FG after we tie the game late. :grumpy:

BONUS: Keys to the Post-Game

It's a loss, but one where we feel better about Guice's breakout and the D's legitimacy. But Keenum's lackluster performance has the Redskins fanbase clamouring early for Haskins.

Key = Wentz' rust under enormous pressure, all game.

Extra Post Game Key = Gloom and Doomers actually apologize for the Redskins winning. WTF?

40+ carries provide Guice/AP/Thompson with 200 yards on the ground and we hold the lead for 4 quarters. 80 yard death marches all damn day

Skins 27
Iggles 17

Bonus key: Moreland seals the game with a pick

I wish I had you guys' optimism. But after watching the preseason (and, yes, I know the preseason is meaningless) and the OLine, I'm expecting more of the poor offensive output we saw last year. A good defense will be wasted, and will eventually get frustrated with the offense.

Besides, the Redskins are notoriously slow starters under Gruden, losing four out of the last 5 season openers.

Zach Brown starts for the Iggles. Skins get a go-ahead TD in the 4th by isolating CT/Guice or Reed/Davis on Zach Brown 1-on-1 in coverage, where we know he sucks.

Early in the 3rd quarter, Payne forces a fumble and Hamilton runs it in for a score. Skins win 21 - 20. Hail To The Redskins!

Ok, it's **** Dallas week, so I'm taking a **** Dallas approach.

In a reversal of recent trends, the Redskin mash the gas in the second half in an unexpected flurry of offense. The Cowboys are caught off guard and are unable to adjust, committing multiple turnovers as a result of going into panic mode, allowing the Redskins to pull away.

Redskins win 34-20

I came closest last week predicting Skins would jump out to a shocking early lead. What happened later - not so much.

Time to try again folks.

Dark Prescott suffers separated shoulder. Beleaguered Skins DBs pick off his replacement and Skins never look back.

Our turd of a head coach will try and be cute after dressing AP. Basically he'll attempt to prove a point by giving AP 30 carries and hoping our offense doesn't produce. By doing so it backfires and Peterson scores 3 td's, (two running one swing pass) while racking up 212 total yards. Keenum throws 2 td's off play action to boot. We win 41-33.

The key is feeding AP the rock

We see the Skins highest scoring game for a while.

McLaurin is key with 2 TD's this week as he continues to shine and show us why moving n from Doctson was a good idea.
AP gains 100 on the ground as the Skins win

35-21

Tough going so far this year. No one close again in Week 2. Let's try it again people - we want to give some awesome classic Skins keyrings away :)

Montez Sweat's coming out party on Monday night. Trubisky strip sack in the 4th quarter and rumbles for the winning TD.

Is Sweat atleast getting pressure so far?

After 2 games there's only 1 team with less rushing attempts than the skins, the hot mess in Miami. Our turd coach FINALLY uses our rb`s and short passes to wear the bears defense out. Jay calls an unprecedented 15 rushes in the 2nd half, causing Dan to get the vapors and faint.

Bears 17
Skins 20

Thompson breaks a 25 yarder for the go ahead and final score of the day

In the first display of what our defense was hyped to be, they come to life in prime time. We hold the Bears scoreless in the first half, and the defense holds them at bay most of the way while Keenum and AP provide all the offense we need.

Bears 10
Redskins 23
