Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Hopefully we are done with drafting a qb in round 1 for this year. It should be out of the discussion.

Why? Drafting a QB - if one you deem could be great is there - should never be off the table. Good lord - if there's a team in dire need of a QB it's the Redskins.

Jones does not look to have the strength needed to drive the ball in. Peyton got away with it late in his career with anticipation skills, but do we want a qb that already has no upside on arm strength? I had not followed him closely enough to know that it was such an issue.
If he can't separate himself from the next tier of qbs, then it is time to look at drafting the best player available, or trading down, and then drafting a Quarterback in the mid rounds.
Murray and Haskins will be long gone.
Drew Lock has the arm strength and is a good athlete. Footwork, and inconsistency still remain very real flaws.
Not totally out of the mix, so I stand corrected on this one. He has Ryan Mallett type talent. Hopefully, he is not the next Ryan Mallett.

It is starting to look like Jones is going to drop like a sack of potatoes.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

One other point about Murray. He came in at 207 lbs, seventeen more than his playing weight. He has bulked up a bit, but some of the gain is thought to be water weight. He will not do drills at the combine. So that should tell you something.

IMHO that seems way too similar to another RG3 relapse for BruJayDan to consider. Bruce better hit on damn near every round to not get thrown out of Redskin park for forever and ever.

Edit: Appreciate all the tweets on skins material guys.

Is it just me or does anyone else hope Bruce uses his strong hand to pat Metcalf on the back, then yells "my germs"?

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Let's draft a QB who lacks top tier arm strength and then draft some slow receivers so everything is in synch!

Go BruDan!!!!

Devin Bush might not be a drop off if Devin White is gone.

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land and guests from social media – we hope you become a member here.

Today, we bring you the latest guest mock of the off-season and it comes from a Redskins fan and pundit – Nathan Britton of Riggo's Rag and the Riggo's Rag Podcast where he is a contributor and analyst. Nathan provides detailed insights on the Redskins and you can catch him cheering for the Nats and Caps.

I contacted Nathan early last week and he was ready to bring in March like a lion with this latest guest mock. After reading his mock last night, I was very impressed with the picks and the scouting reports. Nathan understands the game and knows what the Redskins need. We're grateful that he has shared some of his vast knowledge with us today.

BBQ will continue the guest mocks each week until early next month and we will feature a Redskins fan/mock specialist. It became a popular feature last year and we are happy to bring it back to BGO.

In this mock from Nathan, he looks across the college football landscape for several prospects that could help the Redskins become a better team. I enjoyed looking at his mock and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

Be sure to follow him on twitter at:

Without any further delays, let's take a look at Nathan's mock.

Nathan's Seven Round Mock:

Round 1; Pick traded for Josh Rosen
QB Kyler Murray going 1.1 has gained real steam over the past week, and Kyler's measurables at the combine may have sealed the deal. Washington has no money to go and spend on a free agent QB, and really wouldn't want too. Having your options of Ryan Tannehill or Nick Foles is a less than ideal situation. The Redskins whiffed on the Alex Smith project and while it wasn't entirely their fault, it's where we are. Washington's FO will be desperate to get a quick fix and put butts in seats for next season. Rosen does that. In a class considered to be weak at the QB position, the Redskins get their man.

Round 2: Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida
Polite is a talented pass rusher whose skills should have him in the top half of round one. However, a disastrous combine with bad interviews, workouts, and an injury that some teams are skeptical about, Polite probably takes a tumble. The Redskins benefit and grab the young pass rusher in the second round. He will fill in opposite of Ryan Kerrigan, replacing Preston Smith who will depart via free agency and filling one of the biggest needs on the team. If he can keep his head on straight the Redskins may get a Derrius Guice-esque steal in Polite.

Round 3: Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, WR, Oklahoma
This is most likely impossible for Brown to fall to the middle of round three but let's pretend, shall we? Brown is an explosive wideout from Oklahoma, bringing with him big play potential and quick twitch in the middle of the field that will allow him to gain separation from defenders, and create yards after the catch. Brown is probably a day two talent but recently had surgery to go in and repair a Lisfranc injury, which could push him down some team's boards. Due to fear of the injury lingering or causing him to miss substantial time, Brown would be a great grab for Washington filling an area of need in Washington's lackluster offense.

Round 3, compensatory: Ryan Bates, OG/OT, Penn St.
Bates is a tall strong lineman who will most likely be pushed inside at the NFL level. He has a smaller frame and is better suited inside rather than out. Washington needs to finally fill the mammoth sized whole beside Trent Williams, and Bates may be the man to do the job. Working with good arm length and strength, he should be able to work nicely alongside one of the league's best tackles and an intelligent center in Chase Roullier, who has developed into a nice piece for Washington. Bates can also swing out to play tackle should Williams miss time due to another nagging injury. This is a pick for the now, and the future in Washington.

Round 4: Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix

Round 5: Lil' Jordan Humphrey, WR, Texas
Hell of a name right? Humphrey is tall wideout measuring at 6'4 with 32.5 inch arms and good sized hands. He isn't a burner but has the frame and hands allow him to go up and over corners to make crucial grabs. He has the size to absorb hits over the middle of the field and the ability to keep moving after first contact. He could really compliment Jordan Reed on second or third and medium plays giving whoever the signal caller for Washington is a wider range of security across the field. I think he would be a great addition to Washington's underwhelming receiving core.

Round 5, Comp pick: Savion Smith, CB, Alabama
Josh Norman has dropped off each year since signing in Washington and has a hefty cap number in 2019. Washington doesn't have a ton of cap room and does have a ton of holes. It is also rumored the team has eyes on free agent to be Landon Collins. Should New York let the safety hit the market, Washington probably will make him target number one. Collins' admitted love for the Redskins and idol Sean Taylor could make Washington his number one. That said Norman may be shown the door to make room and thus a new corner must be brought in. Smith is more of a project than a plug and play corner, but his height and speed make him a worthwhile gamble for a team that has had success developing young corners. Smith is a big physical corner who could develop into a nice piece for Washington's improving defense. Having the tools needed to become a decent press corner, Smith could be a nice piece to bring late round and see if the Dunbar effect could work with him as well. Washington needs more youth in the secondary and Smith is a great place to start.

Round 6: Foster Moreau, TE, LSU
Jordan Reed isn't getting younger or less injury prone, Vernon Davis is a likely cap cut and Jeremy Sprinkle is unproven. Washington needs tight end depth and they find it in LSU's Moreau. Tall and fast Moreau comes it at 6'4 250 and ran a 4.6 and put up 22 reps on the bench, Moreau can do it all. I don't know how many of you watch LSU's infuriating offense but it's very run heavy, meaning Moreau is a willing and solid blocking tight end, something Washington lacks. Grabbing him late round is great value for an overlooked need on Washington's low powered offense. Should he be taken, he will become a multi-formational tool for blocking and sneaking out for a quick dump off here and there.

Round 7: J.R. Reed, Safety, Georgia
Troy Apke, Montae Nicholson, yep the gang's all here! Washington needs more safety help and while it would be a wonderful grab to get Collins, it's far from a guarantee. Reed is a solid in the box run stuffing safety that could come down and help deal with tight ends and spy RBs out of the backfield. Adding a safety help is a must and Reed provides a great rotational help at a weak spot for Washington. At 6'1 and 195 he needs to add some weight to help avoid injuries at the next level, but could serve useful as a utility/ special teams player.

Round 7 Comp pick: Joe Dineen Jr., ILB, Kansas
A decent sized backer who can do a little of everything. Finished 2018 with 147 tackles, 14 TFL including 3 sacks, a few broken up passes and one interception. He would fill in nicely at a rotation of middle linebackers that is highlighted by possibly Rueben Foster, if he isn't suspended and whichever of Mason Foster and Zach Brown that survives being cut, my guess is neither. Dineen is a bigger more athletic Will Compton who will play hard and finish with some noticeable plays. A great get as the team's final selection in the 2019 draft.

BBQ's Thoughts:

Thanks to Nathan Britton for all of his research and a superb look at what the Redskins could do in the draft. He put a lot of thought and work to this mock – thank you, Nathan. Feel free to comment on any aspect of what he mocked to the Redskins.

Nathan - thanks so much for the great mock and for taking the time to share it with our BGO membership!

I am on record as being a huge fan of the potential Josh Rosen move. He'd immediately be the best passer we've had in DC in 20 years. He's smart, he's cocky (I like that in my QB), and he hasn't glimpsed the potential he has. I think Gruden could make him into a franchise QB. He could be our QB for a decade and we've not had that in the modern era. I differ from 90% of Redskins fans in that I think it would be entirely reasonable to give up our 1st round pick for him, because he is absolutely a 1st round talent.

If we don't nab Rosen, we're really left with 2 options. The first is going with what we have, which to me is tantamount to giving up on the 2019 season entirely as McCoy cannot stay healthy and JJ is, well, JJ. The 2nd option is to grab 'the best guy available' in the draft. I have no confidence we'll make the right pick there and, to be fair, drafting a young QB is always 75% guesswork.

I'll make one prediction for this year's draft - there will be a run on edge rushers prior to our 15th pick like nothing you've ever seen. No less than half the first 14 picks are going to be edge rushers. Polite may be among them. I know we need a true pass rush threat to supplement our current abilities there, but my personal philosophy is that until you are a team that is just a player or two away from glory, you have to pick an every down player with those first couple picks. Just the way I'd prefer it. So I hope we don't go that route. We absolutely need a top 'can't miss' WR or TE and a big nasty OG - I'd rather go that route with our first couple picks.

I'm also higher on our current secondary than most are. I think Norman still has some good years in him, and we aren't going to get anything of value for him. I'd prefer we do a creative re-work of his deal but also go after Collins as you suggested.

Thanks again for the mock. I'll definitely be looking more at highlight film of the guys you focused on here.
