Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

1) Fire the training staff.

2) Louis Riddick is vocal tonight:

I am old enough to remember when a future hall of fame CB AND a 2nd rd pick was traded to a team for a....RB. #truestory

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Trent Williams allegedly went to Medical staff during season with concern about growth on head. They allegedly told him he was fine and to play through it. At end of season, he got it checked out, and told it was a tumor. This is why Trent has his heels dug in so deep. #Redskins

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I'm torn about TW, on one hand if they did mishandle an actual tumour, thats pretty bad. if however its just "gimme more money" screw him, he got paid when he was injured and when he was suspended, he has nothing to whine about

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

So then, let me get this straight.

Pothead Crybaby was upset the team drafted a tackle.
He ignored the medical staff's recommendation to get a second opinion on his head bump. Which most non-millionaires would do. Then he got mad at the team for his mistake.
He then was upset that the team wasn't clairvoyant enough to "just know" his feelings were hurt.
He decides to hold out, but not for money.
After asking to be traded, he then asks...………………...for more money.
Then we hear, even if he and the team were still holding hands, skipping down the merry lane singing each others praises, he still wouldn't be active yet due to the inability to fully rehab from whatever procedures he's had. Which, would all have been further along had he taken the medical staffs advice for a second opinion.
And now, his heels are dug in.

I'll give him and his team credit for their PR push that it's about the misdiagnosed head bump. It sounds good. Provides ample cover for the money grab. Cause that's all it is.
Like so many people these days, he wants to blame everyone else, for his mistakes. And he wants to get paid for it.

One day, Pothead Crybaby will have to grow up and take responsibility for his own dumbness.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Drafting Geron Christian opened Trent's eyes about the changing nature of the NFL?

He's been in the league for 9 years, hasn't he been paying attention to how the business is run?

Trent earned and received the largest LT contract in NFL history when he signed it with millions in guarantees.

That was his reward.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

If we were to get a 2nd and a 4th for TW I'd send him packing. After the drama with capt "look at my stats not my win percentage against teams over .500" Cousins I'm just not caring for anymore BS from players no matter how good they are. Notice the consistent winning teams don't tolerate this type of crap and will ship players out regardless of skill level if necessary to keep cohesion and positive attitudes on their teams. Then again, right now all we have is media conjecture and this whole discussion could be for not.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

We need to get a #1 , even New England's late pick, in exchange for Williams.

With that pick we can add a Day 1 starter.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I seriously doubt we can get a 1st. Not with his age, missed games due to injury the last few seasons, and being one toke away from a year long suspension.

A 2nd & 4th would be awesome. Maybe an escalator on the 4th, up to a 3rd if he meets certain goals for his new ATM. Er um, team.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Belichick lost Brown and Waddle in free agency and Veldheer retired unexpectedly.

I think in the end Williams would be the Pats best hope of keeping Brady upright.

And Williams' contract for 2020 is not guaranteed so NE would have some immediate insurance.

@P_connerjr

Not quite exactly there. Leaving out that the team told him they didn't believe it was serious, but to get a second opinion. Smokey failed to get that second opinion for quite some time. It was a tumor, but a cyst is also a type of tumor. It wasn't cancer. It wasn't a death scare. As much as this FO can be a bumbling bunch of boobs, Smokey is equally to blame in this and didn't prioritize his own health by actively getting a second opinion even when the team told him to do so.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

It's ironic that as the team is finally drafting better and takes a franchise quarterback it's the time Trent decides he's done here.

I would have understood him wanting to leave after his rookie deal expired to go to a winning team. But he stayed, got paid a mint and remained quiet about any issues until late this spring.

Now he seems like a guy that has been mistreated for years and under appreciated.

Objectively, I don't think that has been the case.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Here's where we need someone with some brains to step in and handle the situation. This really isn't difficult, but we always seem to mess these up.

1) After seeing how Bruce handled Kirk Cousins, he's immediately disqualified. Keep him as far away from Trent as humanly possible. Take his cell phone away if you have to.

2) Having Trent sit out doesn't help us. If he really is going to sit out all season, then trade him now and get something in return. Again, Bruce isn't smart enough to make that determination.

3) Dan needs to pick up the phone and invite Trent on his yacht. Or get on his plane and fly to see him. Show him some love and tell him you want him back. Find out what's really going on. He can't just sit there and watch this thing fester into a bigger problem.

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone here at BGO. We hope your week has been a good one. Hello to everyone on social media. We'd love to have you as a member here and become part of the family.

Free Agency is not over and there are occasional rumblings here and there, especially with training camp in session. This is our latest free agency update for the off-season as the 2019 season continues to inch closer.

As free agency continues to a certain degree, things will become much clearer during the preseason. Will Alex Smith ever return from a brutal injury? Does Case Keenum start on day one or will it be Dwayne Haskins? What about Colt McCoy? What kind of changes will we see to the roster? Those are some of the biggest questions still to be answered in the remainder of this 2019 off-season.

Who will we target in free agency before the regular season arrives? Who will we re-sign? Who will we not re-sign? Who will get released? Feel free to offer your opinions and predictions.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park, Bon Secours, and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months.

Upcoming Dates:
- Days until the first preseason game: 6
- Days until the Regular Season Opener (Eagles): 37

Off-Season Updates:
The Redskins cap room currently stands at $11.63M for 2019. Re-signing Brandon Scherff will provide more cap room. Releases and re-structures (if they occur) will also increase the cap room.

We still know absolutely nothing on Alex Smith, but he will obviously not play in 2019. Will he be ready for the 2020 season? Is his career over? Will he retire? Will he give the Redskins any cap relief? No one knows, but we'll stay on top of it.

According to DeAngelo Hall, the Trent Williams stalemate centers on the training staff and a few on the medical staff. Williams wants them to be fired and replaced.

Trent Williams is unlikely to be traded. Compensation late in the preseason would be inadequate. It's unknown if either side will compromise in any way, but this shows no signs of ending sometime soon.

Adonis Alexander is struggling in camp and he is in danger of not making the final roster.

Bryce Love will miss the first six games of the season, but he continues to work on the sidelines in all practices and walkthroughs.

Danny Johnson and Jordan Brailford also continue to work on the sidelines. No timetable has been announced for their return.

Cam Sims was briefly injured late in Thursday's practice. He will be a full participant in Saturday's practice.

Montez Sweat injured his ankle during practice on Wednesday. After sitting out on Thursday, he will be a full participant in Saturday's practice.

Personal Thoughts:
Both sides with the Trent Williams fiasco are dug in, but I do believe the training staff needs to be replaced and possibly one or two on the medical staff. Fifty players going to injured reserve in two years speaks volumes.

Jimmy Moreland is a lock to make the roster. BBQ also believes he is a star in the making.

Troy Apke is having a better camp than anyone expected, but I need to reserve judgment until the preseason games.

Jeremy Sprinkle is having a great camp. Is it enough to surpass Vernon Davis on the depth chart? Probably not, but Sprinkle is bringing the heat.

In Conclusion:
The free agency updates will continue as new information is available.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I appreciate all the comments. Great discussion!

As you can see in the previous page, my medical experience is similar to TW71's and while that is all behind me, I blame no one. It simply happened. If you were able to sit in his shoes, how would you feel about being given the wrong advice and then asked to resume life/do your job? It's a fair question.

Ok, let's move on from it. Time to talk some actual football.

Tomorrow will bring a free agency update. Players have the day off on Friday. Saturday is fan appreciation day at camp and we will have updates from practice.

If there is a trade, what would you like to see? Draft picks? Players? Players and draft picks? No trade? What teams would you trade with and what would be the compensation package?

I can certainly appreciate your experience. My own father died of a heart attack after going immediately to the ER but they waited 12+ hours to get him into the cath lab and by then he had infarcted enough of his heart that it was fatal.

We're not talking about anything like that here. My basic understanding of what transpired....Trent shows a team physician the 'bump' (which is all it was at that time). They weren't super concerned but advise him to see a specialist. He doesn't for awhile. Then he does. It turns out to be benign, which is the irony here since he was NEVER in any danger. But because whomever he ultimately saw made a big deal about it, that it *could have been far worse*, it's somehow all the Redskins fault? The second the team physician recommended he see a specialist, the issue was in TW's hands. Period.

I gotta be honest - not only do I not think the Redskins are partially to blame for something here (what exactly IS the something?), I don't believe they did anything improper of any kind.

Nor do I think it's our medical or training staff's fault that we've had a terrible 2 year stretch of injuries.

I think Williams wants a big ass payday, one far bigger than the one he agreed to and is still legally obligated to honor, and he's throwing every possible thing he can into the cauldron to make his case for it.

That speaks pretty poorly of someone alright. I just don't agree that it's the Redskins :)

As to the more important point - what do we do now - I am not sure. We cannot and should not open up the vault and make the guy the highest paid LT in the league in the middle of a current contract. He's on the downside of his career, and we are going to need those $$ to sign other critical (and younger) players . I know that average fans thinks we need to pay him whatever he wants and retain him at all costs. But that's not realistic and the same fans will be crucifying the FO when we can't get a deal done with Scherff. So that leaves either playing hardball with him and seeing if he really wants to go 2 years sitting on the sideline and looking for a big deal being 2 years older and a 'problem child', or we trade him for a substantial pick or picks.

That's looking like the most attractive option at present for the simple reason that it doesn't matter what the Redskins want if Williams is unwilling to work with them. And I see no indication he's willing to work with them.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Agree with Boone and others that this is 100% on Trent. Granted our medical staff could most definitely use a production audit but no sense in starting from scratch. I'll leave that to you guys with more medical know how.

According to this site TW's earning $10.8M this season and $12.5M for 2020. I have two questions on this.

First, would converting his salary, or even partially for this season raise his cap # in any way, or does it stay at $10.8M regardless, even if he's hurt but still gets the guaranteed $?

Second, does the $5.5M in dead cap only kick in if we cut him this season? Little confused on that part.

Trent doesn't have a leg to stand on imho regarding being underpaid.

We need to get a #1 , even New England's late pick, in exchange for Williams.

With that pick we can add a Day 1 starter.

Agree on the #1 pick but disagree we should grant him this request, and especially to a contender. Other teams I've seen mentioned are Cleveland, Houston and the Jets. I believe he's from Texas and the Texans current qb was nearly mauled to death David Carr style last season. Hell maybe even Clowney for Trent straight up, if not their 1st will do

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

TW71 is probably not inclined to give the Redskins some cap relief - even if it gives him some more money in advance via a signing bonus.

Trading TW71 will not bring a first rounder at this time of year. Best the Skins can hope for is a third rounder, maybe a second under the right circumstances. Teams that could use a franchise tackle include the Texans and Patriots.

The Washington Redskins final roster of fifty-three players will not be determined for another month, but it is never too early to speculate on which players will make the cut, who will be placed on the practice squad, and who will see their NFL dreams come to a screeching halt.

The draft has come and gone. Rookie camp, OTAs, and mini-camp are all in the history books. Training camp and preseason games will be the final off-season process of narrowing down the roster as the 2019 season draws closer. The challenges of trying to make such a prediction this early is obviously difficult. Injuries, late roster additions, and potential trades can occur and these factors will alter the roster, but let's give it a try.

Upcoming Dates:
- Days until the first preseason game: 5
- Days until the Regular Season Opener (Eagles): 36
- Days until the Cowboys game: 43
- Days until the Giants game: 57

Offense:
In this list of offensive players, there are a few changes from earlier this summer. Alex Smith very likely remains with the team, but he is an obvious candidate for injured reserve in 2019.

Quarterback:
Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy.
Injured Reserve: Alex Smith

Running Back:
Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Samaje Perine.
PUP List: Bryce Love.

Tight End:
Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle.

Wide Receiver:
Paul Richardson, Terry McLaurin, Josh Doctson, Kelvin Harmon, Trey Quinn, Cam Sims, Jehu Chesson (Special Teams).

Offensive Tackle:
Donald Penn, Morgan Moses, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers (Guard).
DNR: Trent Williams.

Offensive Guard:
Brandon Scherff, Wes Martin, Ereck Flowers (Tackle), Tony Bergstrom (Center), Ross Pierschbacher (Center).

Center:
Chase Roullier, Ross Pierschbacher (Guard)

Defense:
The defense looks to be deeper with talent this year and there are several new players who will make their debut as Redskins this fall.

Defensive Line:
Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Caleb Brantley, JoJo Wicker.

Outside Linebacker:
Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy.
PUP: Jordan Brailford.

Inside Linebacker:
Jon Bostic, Shaun Dion Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Cole Holcomb.
Injured Reserve: Reuben Foster.

Cornerback:
Josh Norman, Fabian Moreau, Quinton Dunbar, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Free Safety), Greg Stroman, Jimmy Moreland.
PUP: Danny Johnson.

Safety:
Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Deshazor Everett, Troy Apke, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Cornerback).

Special Teams:
There are no changes to the three special teams players once again this year. If only such predictions could be this easy across the board.

Special Teams:
Dustin Hopkins, Tress Way, Nick Sundberg.

Practice Squad:
This is where it becomes difficult. Trying to predict the ten players who will be signed to the practice squad each year seems like an exercise in futility. Some of the names are familiar and others are new. Omitting fan favorites is never a popular option, but the limit is ten players and difficult choices must be made.

Practice Squad:
Timon Parris (OT), Jonathan Bonner (DE), Casey Dunn (C/OG), Ryan Bee (DE/DT), Matt Flanagan (TE), Andrew Ankrah (Edge/OLB), Steven Sims (WR), Shaun Wilson (RB), B.J. Blunt (ILB), JoJo McIntosh (FS).

Notes:
Bryce Love will be eligible to return after six games. He could be placed on IR at that time or replace Samaje Perine. It's also possible that JoJo Wicker or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie will be waived to make room for Love.

If Trent Williams returns, Tony Bergstrom could be the odd man out. JoJo Wicker or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could be waived as well. It's also possible that Williams ends up on the PUP list.

Jordan Brailford could end up on the practice squad. If he makes the roster after coming off of the PUP list, any one of Cassanova McKinzy, JoJo Wicker, or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie might be waived. IR is also an option.

Danny Johnson could end up on the practice squad. If he makes the roster after coming off of the PUP list, any one of Cassanova McKinzy, JoJo Wicker, or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie might be waived. IR is also an option.

The Redskins could add a free agent veteran or two in the coming days or weeks. That will certainly change how the roster would take shape. Injuries in training camp or preseason games will also influence what the roster will be on opening day. BBQ can't rule out a trade as well. For now, this is a look at what could happen in a few weeks.
