Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018
Greetings to everyone here in BGO land and greetings to all of our friends on social media. We hope you become a member of the family here.
Our thoughts continue to be focused on those who were in the paths of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael. We hope areas affected can get the help and support that is needed, but understand it will take time.
The Redskins watched their three game winning streak come to an end against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and there is plenty of blame to go around. The defense laid a massive rotten egg after several stellar games. The offense struggled. Injuries took a toll. The team continues to maintain first place in the NFC East. How long will it last?
Week nine is in the books and now we take a look at how the entire team fared against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Are you expecting bad grades this week? We will try to make some sense of it all as BBQ hands out grades, evaluations, and questions. Feel free to offer your own grades, evaluations, questions, and opinions.
Upcoming Dates:
- Days until the Cowboys game: 14
- Days until the Eagles game: 25
- Days until NFL free agency: 125
- Days until NFL draft: 168
Let's take a look at week nine.
Quarterbacks:
Question: How did Alex Smith fare?
Answer: Smith had his first 300 yard game in the burgundy and gold and had an impressive twenty-two yard gain on a near sack, but his improved play had no impact.
Grade: C
Running Backs:
Question: Do you have a grade for them?
Answer: Sure, but it is not good. They were non-existent and had no positive effect on the game.
Grade: F
Wide Receivers:
Question: Well, how about the receivers?
Answer: Josh Doctson had an early case of the dropsies, but steadily improved throughout the game. Maurice Harris had his breakout game as a Redskin and looked solid.
Grade: C+
Tight Ends:
Question: What grade do give them?
Answer: They had little impact on the game, but there were no obvious mistakes either. The blocking was subpar.
Grade: C-
Offensive Line:
Question: How would you rate them?
Answer: A failing grade would be easy to give here, but the injuries mounted throughout the game. BBQ thought of giving an “incompleteâ€, but the next man up always applies. This unit struggled the entire game. Too many penalties.
Grade: F
Defensive Line:
Question: What grade would you give their effort against the Falcons?
Answer: With the exception of Matt Ioannidis, this group was ineffective.
Grade: D-
Linebackers:
Question: How did this group fare against the Falcons?
Answer: They looked lost. In fact, they were lost. No impact on the game whatsoever.
Grade: F
Cornerbacks:
Question: What was Josh Norman thinking?
Answer: He wasn't thinking. None of the corners were thinking or performing. Quinton Dunbar did have an interception, but he was relegated to the bench after another injury.
Grade: D-
Safeties:
Question: How did the new safety, Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix look?
Answer: It was too early to put him back there. Clinton-Dix looked lost and rarely knew what the defense was doing. D.J. Swearinger was out of position all too often.
Grade: D
Special Teams:
Question: How about this unit?
Answer: Tress Way continues to prove why he is one of the best punters in the league. Dustin Hopkins was accurate on two extra point attempts.
Grade: A
Coaching:
Question: What can we say about the coaches for this game?
Answer:
Offense. Alex Smith was improved over previous games. Maurice Harris had a coming out party. The rushing offense struggled and the offensive line was horrific. Poor game plan.
Defense. They deserved a ride back to Redskins Park in tricycles. The defensive line was absent with the exception of Matt Ioannidis. The linebackers were non-existent. Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix was inserted into the lineup a week early.
Special teams. A very good game from this unit.
Grade: F
The Redskins hold a lead of one game in the NFC East. The next division game will not occur until Thanksgiving. How would you rate the impact of Matt Ioannidis? Were you encouraged with the improvement from Alex Smith? Did Maurice Harris impress you? Do you think Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix will be ready to go on Sunday? Can the Redskins continue to stay in first place and build on their lead in the NFC East? How would you rate this game against the Falcons?
We'll see you again next week. On to week ten and the Buccaneers game.
Hail To The Redskins!
