Burner’s Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

But it does seem the Skins have had a penchant for years for turning third and short into third and longer through the yellow flag.

Equally frustrating and equally frequent, is the fact it happens a lot on the other side of the ball too.
Lost count of the times that our defense stopped a team on 3rd down, except for a penalty that gives them a free 1st down.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

I will tell you what, that bullshit holding on defense rule needs to be revisited by the league. There is no reason a slight pull on a jersey should have any bearing on a play when the QB was enveloped immediately. The slight pull had no influence on the play when the QB had no chance of getting the ball out of his hands. What becomes a good play by the defense, ends up being a free first down...and because it is so subjective, this is a call that a ref can use to influence the outcome of a game.

There is an old military saying ‘train hard, fight easy'.

The Redskins don't pay the price off the field or in camp and the preseason to come together and play as an effective unified team.

According to Doc Walker last week's practices were a mess, guys jumping before the snap and defenders missing assignments/switches in backfield.

It is any wonder the team is headed toward 6-10?

Burner's Burning Questions: Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Week Fourteen

Greetings to everyone here in BGO land and greetings to all of our friends on social media. We hope you become a member of the family here.

Best wishes to everyone during this holiday season. We hope world leaders work toward peace and prosperity. BBQ extends the warmest of season's greetings to you and best wishes for your holiday plans. We hope for a better tomorrow and may the joys of this holiday season be the best ever for each of us.

The Redskins are in a continued tailspin and the news continues to get worse. Media and fans believe the players have given up on the season and some interactions with players and fans have been nasty.

Week fourteen is in the books and now we take a look at how the entire team fared against the New York Giants on Sunday. Are you expecting bad grades this week? We will try to make some sense of it all as BBQ hands out grades, evaluations, and questions. Feel free to offer your own grades, evaluations, questions, and opinions.

Upcoming Dates:
- Days until we receive Redskins gifts: 12
- Days until the final game of 2018: 17
- Days until NFL free agency: 90
- Days until NFL draft: 133

Let's take a look at week fourteen.

Quarterbacks:
Question: Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson fare?
Answer: Sanchez was forgettable. Johnson offers some hope.
Grade: F

Running Backs:
Question: Do you have a grade for them?
Answer: This was a disaster.
Grade: F

Wide Receivers:
Question: Well, how about the receivers?
Answer: Except for a long touchdown via Jamison Crowder and a couple of nice plays from Josh Doctson, it was not a good day.
Grade: D

Tight Ends:
Question: What grade do give them?
Answer: It was ugly and so is the grade.
Grade: D

Offensive Line:
Question: How would you rate them?
Answer: Austin Howard should retire again. Morgan Moses is a false start and holding machine.
Grade: F

Defensive Line:
Question: What grade would you give their effort against the Eagles?
Answer: They made Eli Manning look like a twenty-five year old all-pro and Saquon Barkley made this group look like a Pop Warner line.
Grade: F

Linebackers:
Question: How did this group fare against the Giants?
Answer: Mason Foster had a bad game. Now he is having a bad week. Next week should be interesting.
Grade: F

Cornerbacks:
Question: How about the corners?
Answer: Toast. Burnt toast. To a crisp.
Grade: F

Safeties:
Question: How should we grade their efforts in this game?
Answer: D.J. Swearinger and Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix got lost on the way to FedEx. They're still lost.
Grade: F

Special Teams:
Question: How about this unit?
Answer: Tress Way was solid. And that's that.
Grade: B

Coaching:
Question: What can we say about the coaches for this game?
Answer:
Offense. Pitiful. The offense looked fairly competent in garbage time.

Defense. Something is still not right with the defense. They look lost, confused, and unorganized.

Special teams. Tress Way is the lone bright spot.
Grade: F

The Redskins have three games remaining and the season has slipped away. Fans want changes in the front office and on the coaching staff. A once promising season has been reduced to ashes in just one month. Is Jay Gruden in his final weeks with the Redskins? How about Bruce Allen? Or Greg Manusky? Should the Redskins select a quarterback in the first or second round of the 2019 draft? Have the players quit on their coaches? Is the writer of this blog ready for the season to be over? What are you getting/giving for Christmas? How would you rate the game against the Giants?

We'll see you again next week. On to week fifteen and the Jaguars game.

Hail To The Redskins! Hail to Christmas. Hail to snow and ice. Hail to anything positive. Or negative.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Clinton Dix is going down as one of the most ineffectual trades of 2018.

There were a number of deals near the trade deadline and a couple of teams, noticeably Dallas, helped themselves.

Others like the Redskins with Clinton Dix and the Eagles with Golden Tate seem to have paid for a pig in a poke.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

And do you think, with this coaching staff, there is a player they could have traded for that would have made a difference?

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Was checking the chiefs staff out for possible candidates. Noticed Andy Heck who used to play tackle for us coaches their o-line. I could just imagine building a machine line for this guy. Not sure about HC but dude could coach my offense in my pretend GM duties.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

I am watching the Chiefs game too.

I see wide receivers like Tyreek Hill and Keenan Allen and Mike Williams and wonder how in the hell we ended up with Josh Doctson, picking #22 in 2016.

We always seem to get less for more

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

There's been a lot of crazy suggestions.
But this one can't be TOO crazy.
How about fire Cavanaugh, and replace him with McCarthy ?

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

No comments on Cobbs, and why we didn't promote him instead of some of the other questionable receivers ?
Lemme guess. He don't play ST ?

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Because this FO and coaching staff are goons. That's why. If you had Snyder, Allen and Gruden running a 7 Eleven, it would be out of business in a month.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Read that they offered to bring Cobbs up. Cobbs chose Brees over Johnson and Buttfumble.
Payton over Gruden.

Smart kid.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

It's way too early to judge the trade for Clinton-Dix. This season has seen the team quit, but let's judge the trade next season when we have a much more complete idea of where the team is headed.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

That's if he re-signs.
Is that close to being a certainty ?

I wouldn't think so. Funny thing is I believe the ‘Skins get a compensatory pick if he doesn't.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

He is likely to re-sign with the Skins.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

My opinion: Teams don't make trades like this one without having some conversations about ongoing commitments. Doesn't make it legally binding but I have to believe they've conversed about and have a pretty good idea on an offer and that the agent/player will accept before deals are done in most of these cases.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

We're assuming the same FO will be running things after week 17.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

To be interpreted as, don't overthink this. At least that is what I am thinking. :rotflmao:
