REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

RICHMOND, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have made the following roster moves:

The Redskins signed the following free agents:
TE J.P. Holtz
LB Jeff Knox
DL Jalen Wilkerson

The Redskins waived the following player designated as injured:
FB Elijah Wellman

The Redskins placed the following players on their Reserve/Injured list:
TE Manasseh Garner
RB Derrius Guice

The fullback position is a casualty of the modern NFL. Versatility is now a premium in the backfield. Has nothing to do with the Redskins. There are only so many roster spots and very few teams devote one to a fullback these days.

Still, Wellman is a surprise cut here. He has talent. Looked pretty good on Thursday night. It's possible the Redskins are making an early move here to fake other teams into thinking he is not good enough to even be on a roster of 90 and then add him to the PS in September. Then again, I am probably overthinking this.

Maybe if they kept that secret in Training Camp, but now other teams have excellent preseason film of him :)
