REDSKINS NAME PHIL RAUSCHER AS ASSISTANT OFFENSIVE LINE COACH

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have named Phil Rauscher as Assistant Offensive Line Coach. In addition, the team formally announced the promotion of Kevin O'Connell to Passing Game Coordinator.

Rauscher, 32, spent the three previous seasons with the Denver Broncos, including serving as assistant to Head Coach Vance Joseph in 2017. He spent the 2015-16 seasons serving as an offensive coaching assistant on the Broncos' staff, helping guide the team to victory in Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 campaign.

Prior to his tenure in Denver, Rauscher spent one season as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at California Lutheran University following two seasons as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Hawaii from 2012-13.

Rauscher spent the 2011 season at the University of Utah, where he was an administrative assistant and tight ends coach. Prior to his time at Utah, he served as offensive coordinator at Dixie State University in 2010.

Rauscher began his coaching career at his alma mater, UCLA, in 2006 as an undergraduate assistant and earned three letters as an offensive lineman before injuries cut his career short. After earning his bachelor's degree in history, Rauscher served as a graduate assistant at UCLA from 2008-09, assisting with tight ends.

O'Connell, 32, joined the Redskins as the team's quarterbacks coach in 2017, helping the team finish 11th in the NFL in team passer rating (93.9) and 12th in net passing yards per game (234.4). Prior to spending the 2016 season overseeing special projects for the San Francisco 49ers, he served as quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2015 and worked with quarterback Josh McCown, who became the first player in Browns franchise history to throw for 300-or-more yards in three consecutive games.

Prior to coaching, O'Connell spent time with the Patriots, Lions, Jets, Dolphins and Chargers during his five year NFL career (2008-12). He was a four-year team captain at San Diego State from 2004-07, appearing in 40 games and finishing his career ranked third in school history in completions (664), fourth in passing yards (7,689) and fifth in passing touchdowns (46).

‘Helped guide the Broncos to a Super Bowl in 2015' ?

Yeah, here's what happened. The team bus was lost heading to the stadium to play the game and Rauscher was able to take some short cuts to get everyone there on time :):):)
