Free Agency, Mock Drafts, Camps, Roster Predictions, 2018

I agree that we can't fill all of the holes in one season. Especially not with trading away high draft picks. Which is why we'll be more active in FA than during the McLovin years.
Gee, we gave up a 3rd, one, and now we're "trading away high draft picksssssss"?

I haven't seen it discussed here, but there were certainly other options at QB. Hopefully Smith turns out to have been the right one.
Other options, sure. But none better, as things stand right now.
As it stands now, the possibility of Norman on one side, Dunbar on the other, and Moreau in the slot is a very real one.
Sounds good to me.

And if a team lines up with 4 WRs?
Holsey.

Or if we suffer an injury back there?
Next man up. But I guess there will never, ever, EVER, in the history of the NFL, be another player like Fuller. KC will be able to put him on the field, by himself, and he will hold teams scoreless, for the next 15 years. lol

DL in the first, CB in the second is my prediction.
DL in the 1st, RB in the second. That's my prediction, today.

I'm glad to have alternative opinions Mike - sort of the whole idea. I guess the part I struggle understanding is criticizing the FO for not thinking ahead, having a plan, and being 'proactive', when the loss of Fuller occurred because they were thinking ahead, had a plan, and were proactive :)

I keep going back to the 'to get something, you have to give something' thing.

Skins went out and got their starter for the next 3-5 years. It took what it took. It may not work out, but you could say the same thing about any other route they'd have gone to get a starting QB. And all of those alternative routes cost something, whether in terms of a high draft pick, some other trade, or cap space.

So I guess Fuller is the new Chuck Norris.

I just question whether the move was made in haste, and in what we gave up to get him.

Bruce and Dan's record so far on QBs:

McNabb--Fail
RG3--Fail
Extending RG3--Fail
The handling of Cousins, releasing his lowball contract offer last year to the media and crying victim--Fail

Is Alex Smith different? Let's hope so.

Basically, anytime Bruce Allen is involved in a QB decision, you know the best course of action is the complete opposite.

Nick Foles would have cost something. Teddy Bridgewater too. The same for Case Keenum. Grabbing Mayfield (if he even dropped) would have cost a first.

Was giving up our 3rd and one of our best young defenders on a cheap contract for a 34 year old Alex Smith the right call? Did he get it right this time? What are the chances?

Alex Smith is a known, proven QB. What are Bruce Allen and Snyder going to do to impact that?

McNabb was the same when we acquired him.....from the same opposing HC too.

Mcnabb lead the league in completion %'s the year before we traded for him? I don't seem to recall that.

What's the single most important thing you've learned over the years?

Bill Belichick: "Never pay to get older."

What did we just do?

Not to worry. We have Jay Effin Gruden.
The God of Gods.
Seer of all things.
Evaluator extraordinaire.
Winner of multiple sub Pee-Wee League titles.
And Bruce Allen's hand picked Golden Boy savior!

Yeah right. Hopefully Alex Smith can carry his average ass into the postseason on a regular basis too.

Question for BB:

Rashaad Penny. Know we met with him and because of that, we're linked to him as a possible draft choice.

Isn't he the same kind of back as Perine? One write up said something along the lines of: "Fits Jay Gruden's power run scheme".

Didn't even know we had a run scheme, much less a power run scheme....lol

Jay Gruden's run scheme consists of handing off the ball and seeing what happens.

Penny would actually be a slightly less version of Perine. He is about twenty pounds lighter and not quite as good. I rate him as a fourth rounder, maybe early fifth. Perine is a tad better imho.

A.J. Francis, DE – (Cap Savings, $705K – Dead Cap, $0)
Su'a Cravens, SS – (Cap Savings, $1.36M – Dead Cap, $1.7M)

Offseason Updates:
Multiple reports suggest that the Redskins are looking to trade Su'a Cravens.

Redskins beat reporter J.P. Finlay of NBCS Washington says that the tag and trade stance that the Miami Dolphins for Jarvis Landry considerably weakens the Kirk Cousins stance of tag and trade.

The Green Bay Packers are reported to have an interest in adding pending free agent Trent Murphy.

The current cap stands at $167M and the expected 2018 cap could be $179M, possibly more.

As you know we ended the process of listing free agents from other teams, but this offseason is full of unpredictability. We will list some players of interest this year, but it won't be a comprehensive list and there is no way we can sign all of them.

Carlos Hyde, RB
Dion Lewis, RB
Isaiah Crowell, RB
Sammy Watkins, WR
Marqise Lee, WR
Paul Richardson, WR
Donte Moncrief, WR
Josh Sitton, OG
Greg Robinson, OT/OG
Luke Joeckel, OG
Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB
Barkevious Mingo, OLB
Dee Ford, OLB
Demario Davis, ILB
Jon Bostic, ILB
Sheldon Richardson, DE
Brent Urban, DE
DaQuan Jones, DT
Daniel McCullers, DT
Bennie Logan, DE/DT
Beau Allen, DT
Aaron Colvin, CB
Kyle Fuller, CB

This list will grow, shrink, and change quite a bit. Feel free to produce a list of your own – we look forward to it.

With the new extension for Alex Smith as he joins the Redskins, we have learned that the total deal is for five years (four year extension).

Rich Tandler believes Bennie Logan is a primary target in free agency.

Personal Thoughts:
While it is tough to lose Kendall Fuller, the quarterback position is now settled for the next few years. Kirk Cousins never had any intention of signing a long term deal here. It is time to move forward.

BBQ believes that if Su'a Cravens is not traded, Bruce Allen will hold on to him until the final cuts.

Even if it is a longshot for Kirk Cousins to be tagged and traded, we still can't fully rule it out (based on the speculation from J.P. Finlay). Strongest candidates to land him are still the Jets, Broncos, and Vikings.

BBQ believes that a quarterback will be selected by the Redskins in the middle rounds of the upcoming draft.

See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

Here we go. A mid-week stab at our upcoming draft.
Borrowed BB's format.

2018 Redskins Draft:

Round One: Vita Vea, DT, Washington
Ax's Comment: Lining this big sumbitch next to Allen puts us in top 10 rush defense.

Round Two: Kerryon Johnson, RB, Auburn
Ax's Comment: Three down back. Our David Johnson. But we'll call him "Carry On".

Round Four: Josey Jewell, ILB, Iowa
Ax's Comment: Starter by mid season. Then for the next 10yrs. London Fletcher reborn.

Round Five: Dante Pettis, WR, Washington
Ax's Comment: A big upgrade at Returner, (tops in the league) while learning to be a pro receiver.

Round Six: Wyatt Fuller, OG, Virginia Tech
Ax's Comment: Defensive background gives him a mean streak as an OG. Callahan will turn him into Grimm Lite.
Besides, having a "Fuller" back on the roster will help sooth troubled minds. ;)

Round Seven: Ryan Izzo, TE, Florida St.
Ax's Comment: A blocking TE to bolster the run game. And fill Niles Paul's roster spot

Round Seven: Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB, Western Kentucky
Ax's Comment: Special teams ace to make up for the loss of the aforementioned Niles Paul

So, there you have it.

And I will indeed keep my day job.

Redskins Broncos in talks of a Sua Cravens trade.

Muhammed Wilkerson anyone? :)

He was cut by the Jets today, is 28 years old and would team nicely with Jonathan Allen inside on the Redskins DL.

Would also free up our draft board from having to bring in DL depth right away and perhaps delay a DT or DE until Rounds 4/5.

Rappaport is almost always wrong. Might happen, but I'm skeptical of anything that guy puts out there...
