We got a 1st round pick next year ! We don't even know how high it will be, but we got a 1st round pick !
So BOOM ! Franchise QB ! Automatic ! Goodbye Kirk ! Problem solved !

    It doesn't work that way.
If it was that easy, then teams would be adding franchise QB's every year.
Yet numerous, numerous teams around the league are constantly struggling with finding the right QB.
Even the 1st round is a crap shoot, especially with QB's.
Have you ever seen the percentage of first round QB's who actually turn out to be franchise QB's ?

I still think Kirk is the guy. To paraphrase Knightingale, he's not overpowering (very few are) but surround him with the right tools and he can get it done. I grant the naysayers that he does has his, uh, questionable moments, but given that he's shown impressive consistency re: ydg, td to int ratio, et al, I don't know why we would want to go back to the well - again - to try another option out of college. We don't have the greatest track record with that sort of pick so there's little reason to believe it would be any different in the immediate future.

Good Lord? Good LORD? Why do you hate Buddha? Or Allah?

Boone, my gorgeous hunk of Marine awesomeness. I've seen you reminding posters here lately, that things haven't been the same most recently, as they had been for the first half of the 25 yrs mentioned. So then, may I remind you, that things have been different most recently around here. Going through coaches/schemes every other year is a horrible way to try and build something that lasts. But our last 3 coaches have had 4 years each. Gibbs would still be here if he didn't retire, again, and wanted to be. Shammy got what he had coming. And now Gruden. Yes I would fire him. 4 years is enough time to show more than he has. His teams have always been as undisciplined as they are now. He's the one that's gone through DC's like a crackhead through his Mama's purse. Even though our kickers have been solid to good while he's been here, the special teams overall are TURRIBLE. 3 out of his 4 years the team has faded down the stretch. His game management still looks rookie-ish. And he has the worst gameday faces I've ever seen. Not to mention no ability to come up with an effective plan B, when plan A belly flops. Bruce Arians was a breath away from whipping our ass with Blaine Gabbert. Gruden, like Norv, is a born coordinator. He's not a good head coach.

No, he's not the worse one we've had. And I'll live with it, obviously, if he doesn't get fired. He could be fortunate enough to win a title. But I've never once felt like we won a game because his coaching was the difference. He's nothing special.

And for the record, I'm not one that believes we're doomed with Allen & Co at the helm.

    I agree.
Sum it up this way :
It would be a far more easier to find the necessary talent to surround Kirk with, sufficient enough to make the team competitive, than it would be, to find a QB that has all of Kirk's positive traits, yet NONE of his faults.

Even finding a better QB than Cousins is no guarantee.
Look at Brees. He's far better than Cousins. But look at all the years the Saints struggled. Even the great Drew Brees needed substantial talent around him, to be a true winner.

    Totally disagree.

Rex Grossman went to a Super Bowl, with a better team around him. Dilfer won one. Case Keenum could make it to a Super Bowl with a good team around him.

Most QB's in the league could.

#8 get no extra credit for possibly being able to do what most journeyman QB's could, when surrounded with better talent.

I think if we sign KC and then look for a stud RB in a deep class - say, Derrius Guice - we can take a significant step forward offensively. Of course, that doesn't address our issues with DBs, but one thing at a time.

Finding a stud RB would be nice - but I actually think it's a few notches down our list of priorities.
First, we need a #1 WR. Maybe even a TE. Then we need another stud DL.
    Then I'd go for RB.
And there's still a possibility, that with an upgrade at LG and Center, and a healthy overall OL, plus with more development from Perine, which we've already seen and shouldn't give up on, that our running game may be fine, as is.

Good points. I wish Jordan could stay healthy, he's such a matchup problem when he's game ready, but Doctson could still develop into the X WR I believe. As much as I like Samaje Perine's toughness, I just don't see him being productive enough to force opposing D's to stack the box and free up our passing options. As for our DL, I dunno. If Allen comes back healthy he's enough of a force that Lanier and Ioannidis, coupled with Kerrigan coming off the edge occasionally, can do what is needed. Then again, you don't want to see my fantasy teams results lol...

I like Doctson, but my concern is, as another fan state somewhere, that he is a one-trick pony. I think I agree with that at this point.
I think it's great, because his one-trick allows us to do something we've struggled with for years - the fade in the end zone.
But I don't think his talents are diverse enough to make him a #1 receiver.

Cool little website here. Suggesting Kirk’s average market value next season is just over $27M. Or 4 yrs and $110M.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washingto.../market-value/

Is he worth it? Can we get similar production from Colt? Is Goals mom gonna continue working at Cheetah’s? Plenty of questions needing answered this offseason.

I don't know about 4 years because on a 5 year deal you can spread the guaranteed money over 5 versus 4 years. Not to say whether or not that's a good number for 2018 but last year Spotrac suggested market value for him was $25M @ year for 5 years or 5/$125M. An interesting article from last year pretty much supported those numbers at about $150M over 6 years. However the structure of the guaranteed money on this hypothetical offer was different than the Skins offer as well as higher. Also it would give Washington an out after 3 years without blowing up their cap. Although the article starts with a 9 year basis it can be terminated at the 6 year point painlessly. OK 9 years probably wouldn't happen but essentially three 3 year deals.

    link: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/o...-kirk-cousins/

An offer in 2019? You'd pretty much have to guarantee the tag number ($35M) plus add new fully guaranteed money in addition to guaranteed salary & bonuses earned annually. Something like $65M fully guaranteed at signing and another $30M in other guarantees with a total contract roughly $150M over 5 years. Stafford (also 29) got $60M fully guaranteed at signing last year, $32M in other guarantees & $135M over 5 years so my 'guess' doesn't seem to be totally out of whack of what the market value will be.

Is he worth it? If your looking at something around a $25M cap hit @ year average over the first 3 years and a contract that Washington could get out of in years 4 or 5 with minimal damage I'd say keep him around. Skins could still draft a QB to develop. Worst thing that happens to Kirk is he pockets $65M over a couple of seasons.

In a perfect world, #8 would look himself in the face and admit that he's average at best. And sign a LTD that pays him the average of QB's in the 10-17 slot.

    But that won't happen.

We can't be successful with Cousins, so let him walk and he will see what he's really worth. There might be a team or two who pays what he wants, but an unsuccessful QB is not worth what he is asking.

Trade Jordan Reed, and the sooner the better. Let some other team take on his injury-prone ass and see if they can keep him on the field. Our training staff have other things to deal with so make him some other teams problem. If he plays against us and scorches us, so what! Other teams are doing that now so it's no big deal. For example, how can the 3rd string RB for the NYG run for so many yards if we are supposed to have a good defence?

The money we DON'T spend on Cousins and Reed can be best spent on putting together a decent defence. ATM, I can see a handful of defensive players we need to keep and build around, either as backups or as future replacements. Ioannidis and Murphy, Kerrigan, Brown and Smith, Swearinger and Norman we keep and build around them, even asking them for recommendations. Choose players who want to be here, not those who want a big pay day.

McCoy can handle the offence we already have, but a few tweaks will see us right. We have the right mix of WR's (send Prior and Quick on their way), but bring in a return specialist. We shouldn't be expecting starters to fill this role. Crowder, then Thompson, was given the task but sadly, they showed they were not up to it. Was it the returners or was it the ST not doing it's job?

I'm basing my theory on what I've read from the 'experts'. Living so far away makes it difficult to follow each and every player on a day-to-day basis, so my info is force fed via third and fourth parties. Maybe you think my thoughts are all wrong, but hey, it's my opinion, not yours!

It's probably going to be Colt McCoy with a rookie on the bench sitting and learning.

But if the team does go into free agency the 30 year old Bradford is coming off a year where he started off quite hot but then got hurt.

So, he is unlikely to attract a major long-term deal. There would be the opportunity to get him perhaps on a one year contract, which if you draft a young qb in April then gives you a path forward at more reasonable cost.

But again I think it will be McCoy.

He's been here. The coaches are comfortable with him. And Bruce Allen likes the fact he is cheap.
