Head Coach Jay Gruden

On injuries:
“Out will be [Jordan] Reed, hamstring; [Montae] Nicholson, concussion; [Maurice] Harris, concussion. Questionable will be [Zach] Brown, [Morgan] Moses, [Trent] Williams, [Terrell] McClain, [Chase] Roullier and [Martrell] Spaight.”

On if WR Maurice Harris had a setback:
“He's just out.”

On the precedent of T Trent Williams playing on Sundays after practicing on Fridays:
“Usually that's the case? Well, hopefully that's the case. We'll see. Like I said, with Trent and Morgan, both of them will be how they feel on Sunday. We'll get them out there early – a couple hours before – let them run around and see what they're like and we'll make our decision.”

On the impetus for Williams sitting during a portion of individual drills:
“I don't know. He is just sore. He's just sore.”

On if there is an update on DL Jonathan Allen:
“No, I mean, he is making progress. He's still rehabbing and we'll see how he does. This is not something we are going to rush back like I've mentioned before. The most important thing is to get him to 100 percent and then when he does feel good with that foot, be able to get him into good football shape. If we get him back this year for the last game or two that would be great. If not, it won't be the end of the world for him.”

On WR Jamison Crowder's week:
“He's been good, water off a duck's back for him. He just has to forget the past and move forward. I think all of our guys have done that. We've had a good week of practice. Jamison is a big part of this team, a big part of this offense and special teams and he will bounce back.”

On who will be the punt returner:
“Jamison is the guy. D-Hall [DeAngelo Hall] will be the backup.”

Jay is one hard headed ****er I swear. How in the world do you leave Crowder in to return punts after his abomination of a job thus far?!??

I wouldn't mind a 3rd or 4th rounder spent on a specialist this spring just to shore that mess up for a few years. Besides, wouldn't you want a guy that's a little more expendable than your # 1.5 receiver?

Jay certainly appears to have his favorites. Chargers are +11 on turnovers while the Skins are a -4 and your best guy has 4 fumbles on punt returns?

Insanity = “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

At some point Jay needs to put the welfare of the team ahead of being a players guy who'll let players continue on the field that are failing. It's not like Crowder has just had a slip or two. He's stumbled over the abyss.

I can't argue with you guys. I was literally screaming at the TV in the bar where I watched the Dallas debacle.

Is this a Mark Rypien fumble thing that Gruden believes he will work through?

I really don't get it. Has anyone heard Crowder comment about how he singlehandedly lost us a critical game? I did not hear any comments or post-game quotes from him. Maybe I would feel better about this if I knew he was contrite and felt badly. I just want to hear some recognition from him that he absolutely cost us a game and is killing us with his mistakes.

Watch him break two for TDS on Sunday just to make us all look like dipshits:)

Grant is a favorite of Gruden. He's solid, dependable, runs great routes, so he probably runs great patterns on returns. Why not put him back there ?
If there was any evidence of "tanking the season", keeping Crowder at PR is absolutely evidence of that.

Yeah, Ryan Gruden isn't going anywhere while Jay is HC unless the FO just won't pay him. Even if Grant didn't ever return a punt at least he doesn't fumble the rock so agreed, why not try.

Is it possible that Jay is trying to give Crowder a chance to get to 1,ooo all purpose yards for the season? His current averages on receiving & running play's would put him in the low 9oo yard range at the end of the year. Maybe he's hoping for some great turnaround or possibly some arrogance on Jay's part.

There's some very good punt returners who dropped off after their 1st year or 2 and never recaptured that original flash. Patrick Peterson, 1st year averaged 16 yd's and had 4 TD's. No TDs and best return yard average since has been around 8. DeSean Jackson, excellent for a couple of years then crashed and burned badly afterwards. Anyway, this might just be about the best Crowder is going to be anymore.

You know he's on the active roster now, right? They brought him up from the Practice Squad on 12/4, supposedly will be on the active roster the rest of the way. Or did you mean, what their plans are for him beyond this season?

That's not correct. He wasn't promoted from our PS, but he was signed off waivers from the Colts on 12/4. Initially, they took him from our PS two months ago, and has been a Colt that whole time. He even started a couple games for the Colts this year.

But from all appearances and indications, we signed an injured player. Someone who was badly enough hurt, that the Colts plan was to move him to IR for the remainder of the season, had we not claimed him.
So, by signing and injured player, that has to raise some questions.

The Colts waived/injured Kalis on Saturday with an undisclosed injury.

Kalis was signed off the Redskins' practice squad Oct. 3. He'll presumably clear waivers and revert to the team's injured reserve. He will spend the remainder of the season there unless he and the team can reach an injury settlement.

Okay :) Not sure what difference it makes. He IS on the active roster according to the last team reports and even on their active roster page. I agree it's curious that he was supposedly released due to injury and now he's on the active roster. I haven't seen anything about him being injured bad enough they were considering putting him on IR.

I think the obvious answer is - he wasn't seriously injured.

It says exactly that in the quote I posted right above.

I think the obvious answer is - he wasn't seriously injured.

So, one might say they were doin somethin shady by planning to put a non-injured player on IR, to play some tricks with the roster. But another indication that he was actually injured, is the talk of an "injury settlement". That term sounds very much like a legitimate injury is involved.

It says ‘presumably' - that's just the writers opinion. I agree it's curious but team doctors may just disagree on the severity of whatever is going on.

Kalis might have agreed to an injury settlement with the Colts to have a shot at signing on elsewhere, especially if he thought the injury wasn't too severe or had a lengthy recovery period. Usually an injury settlement is a mutual agreement between player & team.

I gotta believe the Skins gave him a physical and if they think he's OK then that's probably why he's on the active roster. If he stay's there he probably plays at some point. At the end of the season he might go to IR and the team will still retain his rights.
