Congratulations Greg Manusky, New Defensive Coordinator!

He probably gets and maintains a positive relationship with the players better than his predecessor(s). That's a big plus right there and he played for 12 years so that will garner him some respect in itself.

I took his Defensive Rankings for the 9 years he coached them, added them all up, to come up with an average.
So if you take his rankings based on average total yards per game (25th, 13th, 15th, 13th, 16th, 26th, 20th, 11th, 26th), his defenses had an average overall NFL rating of 18th.

Looking back on 2017 and comparing to the above analysis before the season began, it looks like Manusky has actually regressed.
His average rating during all his DC years was 18th, as stated above.
This year, overall defense was 21st.

I know we had injuries, but defense wasn't hit nearly as hard as offense.
Also, you can't really say it's his first year as DC here, and give him slack for that, because prior to that, he was our LB coach, so he was already familiar with the team.

The interior of the defense was as hard hit by injuries as the offense. Line, backers, safeties, were all a revolving door.

We were a lot more aggressive this season. That alone gets him an A for his rookie season, IMHO.

Now, with a healthy roster next year, a few more toys, and another offseason to coach'em up, I expect major strides next year. We need to jump into the top 10 run defense arena.

And BTW, how many times have we heard "this is only his 3rd season as the starter" when referring to the Greedy Lying Bastard?
Yet, we're not allowed to point out this was Manusky's 1st year as OUR DC.

Tied for 3rd in the NFC for sacks and 5th in interceptions.

Our D rankings were mid-NFL ranks until almost mid- season. They struggled mostly after the injuries got really bad.

The offense failing to score or sustain drives in a lot of games didn't help either.
