Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

I don't think at age 29 anyone is looking at Cousins in 2017 as proving he is simply more than a 'diamond in the rough'. 😜

Jameis Winston at this point is a diamond in the rough.

If no deal by July 15, then Cousins waits and hits the open market in 2018. To franchise him for 3rd (and final time) his cap hit would be something in the $34-35 million range. I don't care how much cap increases, this is a lot of money to allocate to one guy.

They will transition him next year. No franchise. They can match any offer or let him walk.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017(Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to all in BGO land.

Today we bring you the latest mock as we get closer to the draft of 2017. The big event occurs in less than two weeks and the roster will be full of new prospects before you know it.

The frequency of mocks will increase each week. Next week we will feature four mocks. During the week of the draft, we will have a mock each day. Along the way we will feature mocks that have trades (including today). Too, we will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, team additions, coaching changes and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d love to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

An extra note that we will continually post throughout the mocking process: These mocks may not necessarily be what BBQ wants or what the members at BGO may prefer. These mocks are designed to try and get into the mind of the Redskins brain trust and see what they will do. It’s not an easy task, but we’ll try to do our best.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2017.

Team Needs:
Free Safety
Defensive Line
Wide Receiver
Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Trade
The Redskins trade down in round one to the very latter stages and pick up a second and fourth rounder.

Round One: Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
The commitment to the defensive line this offseason is real and totally obvious. With a new defensive line coach, the Redskins are placing a new emphasis on the front seven. The All-Big Ten stud is a powerful force who is a major disruption for opposing quarterbacks and running backs alike. Although he could play inside for a few snaps each game, his greatest potential is likely at end. There are a couple of concerns about his work ethic, but those fears are somewhat overblown and he could shine with Jim Tomsula as his position coach. McDowell recently added fifteen pounds of muscle and his measurements are now 6-6, 295.
Other Possible Targets:
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
John Ross, WR, Washington
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Round Two: Budda Baker, FS, Washington
The first name just screams “Football Player”, but this Husky is a very talented free safety and possesses superior speed. The All-PAC-12 performer can cover large swaths of the football field and is tenacious in coverage. Plays with unending confidence. A bit of a liability in the running game, but his quickness makes up for that skillset. Can focus in on receivers and stay with them step for step. Baker needs to improve his tackling and should do so with good coaching. A natural free safety.
Other Possible Targets:
Justin Evans, FS/SS, Texas A&M
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
Obi Melifonwu, SS, Connecticut
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan

Round Two: Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins waste no time in repairing the defensive line and grab the All-Big Ten defensive lineman. The commitment to the line is real and genuine. Wormley is tenacious and very consistent – rarely makes mistakes. Extremely intelligent. He is a 3-Tech who will probably line up on the outside on most plays, but will kick to the inside at times. Very disruptive in the running game and gets occasional pressure on the quarterback. Probably needs to add about ten pounds of bulk and muscle. A dedicated team player for the Wolverines.

Round Three: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
The Redskins have been looking for a consistent running game in recent years. Alfred Morris departed after slowing down during his last year in a Redskins uniform. Matt Jones wasn’t the answer. Rob Kelley is a good running back, but only in a relief role. Chris Thompson is a passing down back. D'Onta Foreman from the BIG 12’s Longhorns could be the answer. He’s a big, powerful, bruising, and intimidating back who has a great reputation for picking up major chunks of yardage every time he touches the ball. Incredibly quick. A true goal line threat. Consistently breaks tackles. Very effective on screen passes. A team first player.
Other Possible Targets:
Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova
Cooper Kupp. WR, Eastern Washington
Anthony Walker, ILB, Northwestern
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami

Round Four: Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
As one of the better athletes to come out of the Southland Conference this season, Langley is a tough defender with genuine football intelligence. Started his collegiate career at the University of Georgia and was moved to safety out of necessity (injuries to other players). Feeling that corner was still his natural position, he transferred to Lamar and had an impressive career with the Cardinals. Good size, solid speed, nose for the football, excellent defender.
Other Possible Targets:
Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
Kendell Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Jake Butt, TE, Michigan

Round Four: Isaac Asiata, G, Utah
This very strong and powerfully built guard could be a target for the Redskins. Asiata has played tackle and center, but mostly out of necessity due to injuries along the Utes offensive line. The PAC 12 lineman has the prototypical size to play inside and left guard is his natural position. Excellent in the rushing offense, but will need some work in the pass protection schemes. This four year starter could crack the starting lineup by mid-season, maybe sooner.

Round Four: Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins decide to snatch another defensive lineman as they waste little time in trying to improve the defensive line. The Big Ten defensive lineman adds to an overhaul. Glasgow, the younger brother of Detroit offensive lineman Graham Glasgow, is a relentless defender who can play tackle and end interchangeably. With a humble attitude, the Wolverine takes a simple blue collar approach to the game and does his job. Dominant in the run game and is an effective pass rusher.

Round Five: Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
At 6-5 and 330 pounds, Nico Siragusa obviously has the size to play on the line and he also has the talent. The long term starter for the Aztecs is not related to that other Siragusa, but he could forge a solid career in the NFL. The MWC product is powerfully strong and helps to open big holes for running backs. Struggles a bit with pass protection and will likely need a year to learn and perfect those techniques – as such, he is very teachable and a good teammate. Would provide excellent depth to the line.
Other Possible Targets:
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
Charles Walker, DE/DT, Oklahoma
John Johnson, FS, Boston College
Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
Taylor Moton, G/OT, Western Michigan
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT/DE, UCLA

Round Six: Josh Tupou, DT, Colorado
There are some humongous, towering, massive mountains in Colorado – Telluride, Pikes Peak, Mount Elbert, Crestone Peak, Josh Tupou. He’s big! He eats only one meal a day – it last about eight hours. Ok, enough of the lame one liners. Let’s get to the obvious – Very strong. Plays with a passion. Good at the point of attack. Handles double teams with ease. A major cog in the middle. Excels in the rushing defense. Provides a decent pass rush. Can play in both a 3-4 and a 4-3 defense. At 6-3 and 355, the PAC 12 standout can actually run a 5.3 forty. A true Buffalo indeed.
Other Possible Targets:
Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Delano Hill, SS/FS, Michigan
Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan
Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma
C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa
Richie Brown, OLB/ILB, Mississippi St.

Round Six: Jay Guillermo, G/C, Clemson
Jay Guillermo is versatile and can play either guard or center. That’s a good reason for the Redskins to take a flyer on him. Also, there is a need to have a backup at center. He would be drafted for depth purposes, but could actually be a starter within a year or two. The ACC lineman has the massive size that is favored in the NFL for inside positions on the offensive line. Good pass protector, but would need to work on the running game.

Round Seven: David Jones, FS, Richmond
David Jones is a really special athlete. He was selected the preseason defensive player of the year in the CAA, but an early season injury derailed part of his senior season. He returned a few weeks later and was still able to capture second team All-American honors. Last summer, Jones was projected as a second or third rounder and considered to be one of the top five free safeties available in the 2017 draft. If the Redskins are looking for a major steal, Jones would fit that profile. Decent speed. A special teams standout. Goes 6-3, 215. Plays the middle of the field like a boss. Wins/bats away “jump” balls consistently. Excellent attitude. Diligent student of the game. Graduated early (December).
Other Possible Targets:
James Quick, WR, Louisville
Ben Boulware, ILB, Clemson
Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon
Tyrique Jarrett, DT, Pittsburgh
Elijah Hood, RB, North Carolina
Ben Braden, G, Michigan
Hardy Nickerson, ILB, Illinois
Ricky Seals-Jones, WR, Texas A&M

Round Seven: Dylan Donahue, OLB, West Georgia
The University of West Georgia is about forty-five miles west of Atlanta. The athletics program has one interesting footnote – a women’s volleyball player in the late 1990s that stood just under seven feet tall. Now the Wolves could have a new claim to fame – a football player who could become a star in the NFL. Dylan Donahue could be legit. He has the size. He has decent speed. He has a nose for the football. Good in all phases of the game. The Gulf South product produced 20 tackles for a loss along with 13.5 sacks in 2016. He posted similar numbers in 2015. Could become a special teams standout. So much for that volleyball player.

Undrafted Free Agent Prospects:
Dayon Pratt, OLB, East Carolina
Patrick Ricard, DE/DT, Maine
Erik Austell, G, Charleston Southern
Adam Griffith, K, Alabama
Chad Williams, WR, Grambling
Derrick Griffin, TE, Texas Southern
Will Holden, OT, Vanderbilt
Joey Ivie, DT, Florida
Patrick Towles, QB, Boston College
Tony Stevens, WR, Auburn

There is your latest mock and prospect lists. Free agency is winding down and the draft will be here before you know it. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

They will transition him next year. No franchise. They can match any offer or let him walk.

A non exclusive tag would be an option. Not as costly as an Exclusive but more than a Transition. Two 1st rounders as compensation if he walks under the non-Exclusive and no compensation under a Transition if he moves on. It's only a 4 or 5 million dollar bump. Two first rounders for the $5M or so difference.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ. It’s getting warmer outside and the draft is getting oh so close. Today we have the latest free agency update and there are several changes.

The offseason motor-scooter is slowly making its way through the neighborhood of free agency, 2017. Many more mocks are coming as free agency simmers down and will increase in frequency until the very moment we reach the first round.

We will look at our own free agents including those who are re-signed, released, and those who may not return. We will list candidates to be released and the cap savings/hit. We’ll provide updates as needed.

We will no longer list free agents from other teams, just team needs for the Redskins.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months. Who will the Redskins target, re-sign and release? Feel free to offer your ideas on free agency and the draft.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land.

Today we bring you the latest mock as we get closer to the draft of 2017 and it features ten draft choices. The roster will be full of new prospects before you know it.

As we get closer to the draft the frequency of mocks are steadily increasing. The NFL draft arrives next week! This week we will feature four mocks and next week we will have mocks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursday BBQ will bring you a list of first round possibilities. For Friday, we will do the same for rounds two and three. Saturday features players who could be targets in rounds four through seven. We will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, team additions, coaching changes and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Haason Reddick, OLB/ILB, Temple
With Junior Galette being another possible injury concern along with character concerns and the sophomore slump of Preston Smith, it could make sense to add an edge rusher. Enter Haason Reddick of the AAC. The Owl could excel on the edge in certain packages, but his size means he would likely move to the inside at the next level. Good speed – can get to the quarterback quickly. Rapidly closes on running backs hitting the open field. Covers tight ends and slot receivers effectively. Would likely become a fan favorite quickly.
Other Possible Targets:
Forrest Lamp, OT/G, Western Kentucky
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio St.
Derek Barnett, OLB/DE, Tennessee

Round Two: Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins waste no time in repairing the defensive line and grab the All-Big Ten defensive lineman. The commitment to the line is real and genuine. Wormley is tenacious and very consistent – rarely makes mistakes. Extremely intelligent. He is a 3-Tech who will probably line up on the outside on most plays, but will kick to the inside at times. Very disruptive in the running game and gets occasional pressure on the quarterback. Probably needs to add about ten pounds of bulk and muscle. A dedicated team player.
Other Possible Targets:
Justin Evans, FS/SS, Texas A&M
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Budda Baker, FS, Washington
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland

Anthony Walker, ILB, Northwestern
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington
Nate Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn

Round Four: Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
As one of the better athletes to come out of the Southland Conference this season, Langley is a tough defender with genuine football intelligence. Started his collegiate career at the University of Georgia and was moved to safety out of necessity (injuries to other players). Feeling that corner was still his natural position, he transferred to Lamar and had an impressive career with the Cardinals. Good size, solid speed, nose for the football, excellent defender.
Other Possible Targets:
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Trey Hendrickson, OLB, Florida Atlantic

Round Four: Isaac Asiata, G, Utah
This very strong and powerfully built guard could be a target for the Redskins. Asiata has played tackle and center, but mostly out of necessity due to injuries along the Utes offensive line. The PAC 12 lineman has the prototypical size to play inside and left guard is his natural position. Excellent in the rushing offense, but will need some work in the pass protection schemes. This four year starter could crack the starting lineup by mid-season, maybe sooner.

Round Five: Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Jones is a productive force at defensive tackle and end. He has superb athleticism for a man his size and figures to play more at the end, but could slide inside at times. Jones has the potential to dominate offensive linemen when he is in a groove and can live in the backfield. The ACC (Affiliated) standout uses his length to block passes and possesses a respectable pass rush. He can disappear at times during a game, but Jim Tomsula will likely provide good coaching and motivation.
Other Possible Targets:
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
Charles Walker, DE/DT, Oklahoma
Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
John Johnson, FS, Boston College

Other Possible Targets:
Delano Hill, SS/FS, Michigan
Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri
Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma
Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan

The frequency of mocks are increasing and we have two more this week (Thursday and Friday). Next week we will have mocks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Round One: Forrest Lamp, OT/G, Western Kentucky
Injuries have taken a toll on Shawn Lauvao and the Redskins likely need a replacement at left guard. Also, when you look at the current roster, there is no depth at guard. Enter Forrest Lamp, guard/tackle of the CUSA’s most prolific offense. He could start immediately at left guard. Has the versatility to play tackle, but is better suited to be on the inside in the NFL. The four year starter for the Hilltoppers on the left side had great games against the likes of SEC powerhouses LSU and Alabama. Very aggressive. Solid in the run game. Very good in pass protection.
Other Possible Targets:
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio St.
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
Derek Barnett, OLB/DE, Tennessee
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

Round Two: Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
The quality of wide receivers in the NFC-East has grown significantly over the last few seasons and it would be a good idea to take a quality corner here. The PAC 12 dynamo is an electrifying player and is arguably one of the best corners in the draft. He also had a fantastic career as a kick/punt returner for the Trojans. Lightning fast – can jump routes with ease. Can also play wide receiver on occasion and effectively so. Does has issues with taller receivers and can get beat on jump balls. Passionate player. Former teammate of Su’a Cravens.
Other Possible Targets:
Justin Evans, FS/SS, Texas A&M
Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Budda Baker, FS, Washington
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Obi Melifonwu, SS, Connecticut

Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami

Round Four: Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
The Redskins can’t ignore six concussions to Jordan Reed and he could be one hit away from a career ending injury. Vernon Davis is not a starter and Niles Paul is more of a special teams ace. Enter Jake Butt of the BIG 10’s Wolverines. He was originally rated as one of the draft’s best tight ends, but an unfortunate injury in their bowl game likely means that he won’t be selected early on. He also may not be ready at the very start of the season. However, Butt could still have a solid rookie season. Dependable pass catcher. Great red zone target. Excellent football smarts. Good blocker.
Other Possible Targets:
Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
Kendell Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.

Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri

There is your latest mock and prospect lists. Free agency is winding down and the draft will be here before you know it. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

Hey BB, any chance of an "All Seniors", and/or an "All Non Seniors" mock?

Of course, I know as little as I pay attention to college football, you may have already done so, and I just didn't know it.

I honestly don't have that kind of time. I am spending some time today on the Thursday mock. Feel free to post your mocks using those methods. It could be very interesting and informative.

I like the idea of Lamp, but don't see it happening. I think Gruden wants a playmaker in 1st round.

5 prospects the Washington Redskins should target in the 2017 NFL Draft | FOX Sports

Any of these guys on the radar BB?

Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado

Mack Hollins, WR, North Carolina

Stevie Tu’ikolovatu, DT, USC

Never heard of Hollins but the the DT from USC intrigues.....

All of them are good and any of them can be drafted by the Redskins.

You have one true first round elite talent in this draft - Myles Garrett. After that, the second overall pick to the middle of round three - and this is not an exaggeration - everyone is about even. A couple of others do stand out, but I've never seen anything like it. Players expected to go in round one could drop to round three and vice-versa.

The middle of round three through round five - same thing. Very frustrating. Rounds six and seven this year is typical - Some who will make it and some who won't. We really need to have some hits in the middle and late rounds. UDFAs as well.

Frustrating year for us mock pundits/guessers/dart throwers.

The NFL draft arrives one week from today! This week we are featuring four mocks (another one tomorrow) and next week we will have mocks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
A physical specimen and a physical player. The All-SEC linebacker would be a force in the middle. Foster will need to improve by just a small amount in the passing game, but many scouts think he will adapt to the NFL offensive schemes quickly. The Crimson Tide standout has the speed to stay with tight ends and receivers coming over the middle. Zeroes in on running backs with laser like precision. Has a quick step on blitz packages and should get to the quarterback in an instant. An elite talent.
Other Possible Targets:
Forrest Lamp, OT/G, Western Kentucky
Haason Reddick, OLB/ILB, Temple
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio St.
Derek Barnett, OLB/DE, Tennessee

Round Two: Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan

Wormley is tenacious and very consistent – rarely makes mistakes. Extremely intelligent. He is a 3-Tech who will probably line up on the outside on most plays, but will kick to the inside at times. Kevin King, CB, Washington
Budda Baker, FS, Washington
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland

Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova

Taylor Moton, G/OT, Western Michigan
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT/DE, UCLA

Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri
Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma

C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa
Richie Brown, OLB/ILB, Mississippi St.

Dylan Donahue, OLB, West Georgia
James Quick, WR, Louisville
Ben Braden, G, Michigan
Hardy Nickerson, ILB, Illinois

Round Seven: Ricky Seals-Jones, WR, Texas A&M
Ricky Seals-Jones was a five star recruit for the Aggies of the SEC, but has failed to live up to the hype. However, some pundits feel that his best days are still ahead of him as he does flash occasional bouts of greatness. At 6-5 and 240, he would be a definite target in the end zone for jump balls and various fade routes. He likely needs two years to get a feel of the NFL. He ceiling is very high, but can he reach it? The Redskins front office may think so. Could potentially play defense/special teams when the opposing team lines up for a field goal – jumping and raising those long arms would be interesting.

I could see us taking David Jones, especially since Bruce Allen is a UofR alum.

Past couple years we drafted a lot of SEC players. It will be interesting to see if do the same this year.

Nice work BB.

We're one week away:)

Reuben Foster has failed a drug test. I won't change the mock, but will try to get a feel of things for the next few days.

A player who could slide is John Ross. Michael Lombardi said that his medical conditions are horrible. It is best to avoid that potential train wreck.

More on the Reuben Foster failed drug test. It was at the combine and the sample was diluted. I'm not sure how that could happen or what it implies, but that is the latest news.

Ross was a one year wonder to begin with. Prior to the 2016 season, his best season had him with 17 receptions and 4 TDs. He literally has had one good year. Pass.
