Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

Maybe we can find that guy who comes from nowhere and unexpectedly turns into the next Monte Coleman.

There will be some LBs drafted who probably would not have in a deeper class. Odds are good that at least one of them are going to turn out to be a gem. Hopefully the Skins can be a team to do that.

Might Washington draft an OLB before an inside guy? Bates tore his ACL against Carolina so you shouldn't count on him at the start of the season. Leaves them with 3 proven OLBs. I suppose if Galette can go that gets you some depth but can't count on him playing. FA isn't over but all things considered maybe the Skins should acquire at least one inside or outside guy . They've got guys that have shown good things but not a lot of snaps.

It took more than one off season to rebuild our offense. It's absolutely going to take more than one to significantly improve this defense. Yeah, there are exceptions like the Giants in free agency last season - but they are exceptions. Twitter fans who want/expect us to grab every highly touted defensive FA and turn things around in a single offseason, they just aren't living in reality.

They don't need to break the bank for a guy, just some solid depth. Doesn't need to be a starter.

I'm stingy and wish we could nab that 1st round beast to build the D around. Someone who's ridiculous smart and qb's that side of the ball. Guys like Luke Kuechly, Bobby Wagner Patrick Willis, etc. Basically that prodigy we draft that stays with us for career.

Our D needs that next L. Fletcher back there to smack some fools when they miss assignments. IMHO our D has been golly gee when we needed violent madmen releasing hate.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ. We’ve missed you. Today we have the latest free agency update and there are several changes.

The offseason airliner is navigating the routes of free agency, 2017. On Tuesday we will finally have the first mock of March as the countdown to the draft continues. As free agency simmers down, the mocks will increase in frequency until the very moment we reach the first round.

We will look at our own free agents including those who are re-signed, released, and those who may not return. We will list candidates to be released and the cap savings/hit. We’ll provide updates as needed.

We will no longer list free agents from other teams, just team needs for the Redskins.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months. Who will the Redskins target, re-sign and release? Feel free to offer your ideas on free agency and the draft.

Team Needs:
Free Safety

Left Guard
Running Back

Suspension:
Silas Redd, RB – (Released)

Offseason Updates:
The Redskins have announced the offseason practice schedule:
Rookie Camp
May 12-14

OTAs
May 23-25
May 30-June 1
June 5-8

Veterans Mini Camp
June 13-15

The Redskins really have no need to overpay for another free agent defensive lineman. There are many quality prospects in the draft and that will be the case for many years to come.

With the hiring of Torrian Gray as the new DB coach (via Florida and Virginia Tech), look for a substantially huge improvement from the corners and safeties. Many of his former players are in the league and several are expected to be drafted (some highly) in 2017.

Expect Morgan Moses to get a contract extension in the offseason.

Johnathan Hankins may or may not be on the radar at this time. Interest for him has dried up around the league – an indication that he is seeking too much money.

Personal Thoughts:
When Brian Quick was added to the roster, it likely ended any consideration of drafting a wide receiver in 2017.

I now think DeAngelo Hall will do a major restructure of his contract.

If the team releases DeAngelo Hall, BBQ wouldn’t mind seeing him in a front office role.

Hail To The Redskins!

I've turned off the protections for a short period of time in order to update things today. Thanks to Boone for posting the FA update yesterday. My protection software blocks this site, but hoping to have everything rectified soon. Really been missing everyone. Mock draft coming in a few minutes.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017(Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land. We haven’t seen you in a while. We have some catching up to do. As you probably know, and this is a very informed group of fans, the NFL draft is exactly one month away.

Today we bring you the latest mock of the 2017 offseason and it features ten draft choices. As free agency begins to put on the brakes a bit, the frequency of mocks will increase as players are re-signed and added from other teams. During the week of the draft we will have a mock each day. Please keep in mind that the early mocks will likely look much different than the final mocks. Many factors will dictate those changes. Along the way we will feature mocks that have trades. Too, we will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

We’ve had a game changer. It has forced BBQ to re-think the entire mocking process for 2017. We are not going to complain about it, but simply deal with a new direction and make the changes necessary. Also, we could not post last week’s mock due to the site difficulties. So we will bring you a second mock later this week.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, team additions, coaching changes and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

An extra note that we will continually post throughout the mocking process: These mocks may not necessarily be what BBQ wants or what the members at BGO may prefer. These mocks are designed to try and get into the mind of the Redskins brain trust and see what they will do. It’s now a very different and difficult task, but we’ll try to do our best.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2017.

Team Needs:
Free Safety
Defensive Line
Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
The commitment to the defensive line this offseason is real and totally obvious. With a new defensive line coach, the Redskins are placing a new emphasis on the front seven. The All-Big Ten stud is a powerful force who is a major disruption for opposing quarterbacks and running backs alike. Although he could play inside for a few snaps each game, his greatest potential is likely at end. There are a couple of concerns about his work ethic, but those fears are somewhat overblown and he could shine with Jim Tomsula as his position coach. McDowell recently added fifteen pounds of muscle and his measurements are now 6-6, 295.
Other Possible Targets:
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
John Ross, WR, Washington
Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio St.
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Round Two: Kevin King, CB, Washington
The first thing that stands out is Kevin King’s lack of gaudy numbers, but don’t let that fool you. He played opposite from Sidney Jones and the PAC 12 shutdown corner usually was placed against the bigger receivers. As a bigger corner, the Husky could help to neutralize the bigger wide receivers of the NFC-East and the NFL. He has good speed. Fierce defender. Can defend jump balls effectively. Could be a starter from day one, certainly no later than after a few games.
Other Possible Targets:
Budda Baker, FS, Washington
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
Forrest Lamp, OT/G, Western Kentucky
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan

Round Three: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
The Redskins have been looking for the right running back to fit into Jay Gruden’s system in recent years. Matt Jones wasn’t the answer. Rob Kelley is a good running back, but only in a relief role. Chris Thompson is a passing down back. D'Onta Foreman from the BIG 12’s Longhorns could be the answer. He’s a big, powerful, bruising, and intimidating back who has a great reputation for picking up major chunks of yardage every time he touches the ball. Incredibly quick. A true goal line threat. Consistently breaks tackles. Very effective on screen passes. A team first player.
Other Possible Targets:
Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson
Anthony Walker, ILB, Northwestern
Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.

Round Four: Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Jones is a productive force at defensive tackle and end. He has superb athleticism for a man his size and figures to play more at the end, but could slide inside at times. Jones has the potential to dominate offensive linemen when he is in a groove and can live in the backfield. The ACC (Affiliated) standout uses his length to block passes and possesses a respectable pass rush.
Other Possible Targets:
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova

Round Four: Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
The Redskins can’t ignore six concussions to Jordan Reed and he could be one hit away from a career ending injury. Vernon Davis is not a starter and Niles Paul is more of a special teams ace. Enter Jake Butt of the BIG 10’s Wolverines. He was originally rated as one of the draft’s best tight ends, but an unfortunate injury in their bowl game likely means that he won’t be selected early on. He also may not be ready at the very start of the season. However, Butt could still have a solid rookie season. Dependable pass catcher. Great red zone target. Excellent football smarts. Good blocker.

Round Five: Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
At 6-5 and 330 pounds, Nico Siragusa obviously has the size to play on the line and he also has the talent. The long term starter for the Aztecs is not related to that other Siragusa, but he could forge a solid career in the NFL. The MWC product is powerfully strong and helps to open big holes for running backs. Struggles a bit with pass protection and will likely need a year to learn and perfect those techniques – as such, he is very teachable and a good teammate.
Other Possible Targets:
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
Charles Walker, DE/DT, Oklahoma
John Johnson, FS, Boston College
Taylor Moton, G/OT, Western Michigan
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT/DE, UCLA
Isaac Asiata, G, Utah

Round Six: Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma
Jordan Evans was considered a fringe prospect before the 2016 season. In some ways he is still an obscure prospect, but the BIG 12 linebacker for the Sooners could be the best sleeper prospect of the 2017 draft. Good tackler. Superior athleticism. Hard-nosed player. Very physical. Excellent in pass defense. Very quick. Always knows where the football is located and gets there quickly. Shoots gaps with lightning speed. Good run defender. Probably needs to add about five to eight pounds of muscle. Excellent special teams prospect.
Other Possible Targets:
Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Ahkello Stribling, CB, Colorado
Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan
Jay Guillermo, G/C, Clemson
C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa
Richie Brown, OLB/ILB, Mississippi St.

Round Six: Delano Hill, SS/FS, Michigan
Delano Hill is a speedy free safety who comes with the reputation of a hard hitter. The All-Big 10 performer had a solid season for the Wolverines, but he will be something of a project at the next level. He is good in zone coverages, but can also play closer to the line and stop running backs from making long gains. Hill needs a couple of years before seeing regular duty, but could be a standout on special teams from day one.

Round Seven: Josh Tupou, DT, Colorado
There are some humongous, towering, massive mountains in Colorado – Telluride, Pikes Peak, Mount Elbert, Crestone Peak, Josh Tupou. He’s big! He eats only meal a day – it lasts about eight hours. Ok, enough of the lame one liners. Let’s get to the obvious – Very strong. Plays with a passion. Good at the point of attack. Handles double teams with ease. A major cog in the middle. Excels in the rushing defense. Provides a decent pass rush. Can play in both a 3-4 and a 4-3 defense. At 6-3 and 355, the PAC 12 standout can actually run a 5.3 forty. A true Buffalo indeed.
Other Possible Targets:
Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon
Ben Boulware, ILB, Clemson
Elijah Hood, RB, North Carolina
David Jones, FS, Richmond
James Quick, WR, Louisville
Tyrique Jarrett, DT, Pittsburgh
Ben Braden, G, Michigan
Hardy Nickerson, ILB, Illinois

Round Seven: Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri
There are zero mountainous peaks in the state of Missouri. Wait! Our mistake. Josh Augusta qualifies as a mountainous peak and is an intriguing player in this year’s draft. He’s raw, but the SEC prospect from the Tigers could be an interesting selection here. He has lost some weight (currently 6-4, 355) and is working on his conditioning. Played well in the final two-thirds of 2016 and had a steady, somewhat unspectacular career in college. Played well at the Senior Bowl -scouts claimed the weight loss helped – and continued conditioning may yield even better results. A run stuffer. Likely needs two years before becoming a rotational player at the next level.

Undrafted Free Agent Prospects:
Channing Stribling, CB, Michigan
Patrick Ricard, DE/DT, Maine
Matt Elam, DT, Kentucky
Adam Griffith, K, Alabama
Elijah McGuire, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette
Christian LaCouture, DT, LSU
Kai Nacua, FS, BYU
Patrick Towles, QB, Boston College
Johnny Mundt, TE, Oregon
Tanner Gentry, WR, Wyoming

Running back in this offense is not worthy of a first round choice.

But if we are going to throw less and play more ball control like Dallas then this pick makes more sense.

But if we are going to throw less and play more ball control like Dallas then this pick makes more sense.

This isn't necessarily the case, Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey are both great out of the backfield. They both block well, too. We could finally have a back going out into the flat who is terribly dangerous.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017(Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to all in BGO land.

Today we bring you the latest mock as we get closer to the draft of 2017. The big event occurs in less than a month and the roster will be full of new prospects before you know it.

The frequency of mocks will increase each week. During the week of the draft, we will have a mock each day. Along the way we will feature mocks that have trades (including today). Too, we will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

We had a game changer earlier this month. It has forced BBQ to re-think the entire mocking process for 2017. We are not going to complain about it, but simply deal with a new direction and make the changes necessary.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, team additions, coaching changes and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d love to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Wide Receiver
Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Trade
The Redskins trade down in round one to the very latter stages and pick up a second and fourth rounder.

Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
John Ross, WR, Washington
DeShaun Watson, QB, Clemson
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Round Two: Budda Baker, FS, Washington
The first name just screams “Football Player”, but Baker is a very talented free safety and possesses superior speed. The All-PAC-12 performer can cover large swaths of the football field and is tenacious in coverage. Plays with unending confidence. A bit of a liability in the running game, but his quickness makes up for that skillset. Can focus in on receivers and stay with them step for step. Needs to improve his tackling and should do so with good coaching. A natural free safety.
Other Possible Targets:
Justin Evans, FS/SS, Texas A&M
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Obi Melifonwu, SS, Connecticut
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan

Round Two: Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
Ok, who is Adam Shaheen? He’s a tight end from Ashland. Ok, does Ashland have a football team? Yes, they do have a football team. Ok, where in the world is Ashland? It’s in Ohio – we think. The team is known as the Eagles – we think. They are in the GLIAC – we think. It’s a mouthful. What we do know is that Shaheen switched from basketball to football last year. He put up excellent numbers. He is a great blocker. Runs a 4.5 forty. He’s a freakish athlete. Could have a career that is equal to or better than Rob Gronkowski. Oh, and he goes 6-7, 280. Let that sink in for a bit.

Round Three: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
The Redskins have been looking for the right running back to fit into Jay Gruden’s system in recent years Matt Jones wasn’t the answer.
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami

Round Four: Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Jones is a productive force at defensive tackle and end. He has superb athleticism for a man his size and figures to play more at the end, but could slide inside at times. Jones has the potential to dominate offensive linemen when he is in a groove and can live in the backfield. The ACC (Affiliated) standout uses his length to block passes and possesses a respectable pass rush. Specialty is stuffing running backs at the line of scrimmage.
Other Possible Targets:
Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Jake Butt, TE, Michigan

Round Four: Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
As one of the better athletes to come out of the Southland Conference this season, Langley is a tough defender with genuine football intelligence. Started his collegiate career at the University of Georgia and was moved to safety out of necessity (injuries to other players). Feeling that corner was still his natural position, he transferred to Lamar and had an impressive career with the Cardinals. Good size, solid speed, nose for the football, excellent defender.

Round Four: Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins decide to snatch another defensive lineman in this round as they waste little time in trying to improve the defensive line. The Big Ten defensive lineman adds to an overhaul. Glasgow, the younger brother of Detroit offensive lineman Graham Glasgow, is a relentless defender who can play tackle and end interchangeably. With a humble attitude, the Wolverine takes a simple blue collar approach to the game and does his job. Dominant in the run game and is an effective pass rusher.

Round Five: Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
At 6-5 and 330 pounds, Nico Siragusa obviously has the size to play on the line and he also has the talent. The long term starter for the Aztecs is not related to that other Siragusa, but he could forge a solid career in the NFL. The MWC product is powerfully strong and helps to open big holes for running backs. Struggles a bit with pass protection and will likely need a year to learn and perfect those techniques – as such, he is very teachable and a good teammate.
Other Possible Targets:
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
Charles Walker, DE/DT, Oklahoma
John Johnson, FS, Boston College
Taylor Moton, G/OT, Western Michigan
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT/DE, UCLA
Isaac Asiata, G, Utah

Round Six: Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma
Jordan Evans was considered a fringe prospect before the 2016 season. In some ways he is still an obscure prospect, but the BIG 12 linebacker for the Sooners could be the best sleeper prospect of the 2017 draft. Good tackler. Superior athleticism. Hard-nosed player. Very physical. Excellent in pass defense. Very quick. Always knows where the football is located and gets there quickly. Shoots gaps with lightning speed. Good run defender. Probably needs to add about five to eight pounds of muscle. Excellent special teams prospect.
Other Possible Targets:
Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Ahkello Stribling, CB, Colorado
Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan
Jay Guillermo, G/C, Clemson
C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa
Richie Brown, OLB/ILB, Mississippi St.

Round Six: Jay Guillermo, G/C, Clemson
Jay Guillermo is versatile and can play either guard or center. That’s a good reason for the Redskins to take a flyer on him. Also, there is a need to have a backup at center. He would be drafted for depth purposes, but could actually be a starter within a year or two. The ACC lineman has the massive size that is favored in the NFL for inside positions on the offensive line. Good pass protector, but would need to work on the running game.

Round Seven: Josh Tupou, DT, Colorado
There are some humongous, towering, massive mountains in Colorado – Telluride, Pikes Peak, Mount Elbert, Crestone Peak, Josh Tupou. He’s big! He eats only meal a day – it last about eight hours.
James Quick, WR, Louisville
Ben Boulware, ILB, Clemson
Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon
Elijah Hood, RB, North Carolina
Ben Braden, G, Michigan
Tyrique Jarrett, DT, Pittsburgh
Hardy Nickerson, ILB, Illinois
Ricky Seals-Jones, WR, Texas A&M

Round Seven: David Jones, FS, Richmond
David Jones is a really special athlete. He was selected the preseason defensive player of the year in the CAA, but an early season injury derailed part of his senior season. He returned a few weeks later and was still able to capture second team All-American honors. Last summer, Jones was projected as a second or third rounder and considered to be one of the top five free safeties available in the 2017 draft. If the Redskins are looking for a major steal, Jones would fit that profile. Decent speed. A special teams standout. Goes 6-3, 215. Plays the middle of the field like a boss. Wins/bats away “jump” balls consistently. Excellent attitude. Diligent student of the game. Graduated early (December).

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ. Welcome to April as we continue forward toward the draft later this month. Today we have the latest free agency update and there are several changes.

The offseason tugboat is powering through agency, 2017. Tomorrow will bring the first mock of April as the countdown to the draft continues.

Offseason Updates:
The Redskins have announced the offseason practice schedule:
Rookie Camp
May 12-14
OTAs
May 23-25
May 30-June 1
June 5-8
Veterans Mini Camp
June 13-15

Expect Morgan Moses to get a contract extension in the offseason.

Johnathan Hankins may or may not be on the radar at this time. Interest for him has dried up around the league – an indication that he is seeking too much money.

Personal Thoughts:
I now think DeAngelo Hall will do a major restructure of his contract.

If the team releases DeAngelo Hall, BBQ wouldn’t mind seeing him in a front office role.

Hail To The Redskins!

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017(Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land.

Today we bring you the latest mock of the 2017 offseason and it features ten draft choices. As we get closer to the draft the frequency of mocks will increase. We are less than a month away. Next week we will feature three mocks and the following week will bring four. During the week of the draft, we will have a mock each day. Along the way we will feature mocks that have trades. Too, we will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

Round One: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
The hype is there. You have seen the games. You have watched his YouTube videos. Is he just an internet sensation - another Lache Seastrunk - or can he thrive in a pass happy offense with occasional runs off tackle? So much intrigue comes with Christian McCaffrey. No doubt that he helped the Cardinal excel in the PAC 12 and nationally, but can he truly make it in the NFL? He is tougher than many may think, but he can’t be a constant between the tackles runner. To fully utilize his skillset, the Redskins could line him up in the backfield, at tight end, in the slot, and at wideout. As a multi-faceted talent, McCaffrey would be a very dangerous player against opposing defenses.
Other Possible Targets:
Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan St.
Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio St.
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Round Two: Chris Wormley, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins waste no time in repairing the defensive line and grab the All-Big Ten defensive lineman. The commitment to the line is real and genuine. Wormley is tenacious and very consistent – rarely makes mistakes. Extremely intelligent. He is a 3-Tech who will probably line up on the outside on most plays, but will kick to the inside at times. Very disruptive in the running game and gets occasional pressure on the quarterback. Probably needs to add about ten pounds of bulk and muscle. A dedicated team player.
Other Possible Targets:
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Budda Baker, FS, Washington
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
Forrest Lamp, OT/G, Western Kentucky
Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland

Round Three: Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami
Is this possible? With all the commotion surrounding the team this offseason, including the Kirk Cousins contract situation, the Redskins may look in this direction. Colt McCoy is not a long term solution. Is Nate Sudfeld ready to take the next step? What is the true status of Kirk Cousins? We could get some answers during the draft. Brad Kaaya had a superb career for the ACC’s Hurricanes and could be a target in the draft. Big, strong armed with pinpoint accuracy. Uncanny ability to fit the ball in tight areas. Is somewhat lacking of mobility, but makes up for it with quick releases and accurate placements. Probably needs a year to adjust to the NFL levels of competition.
Other Possible Targets:
Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson
Anthony Walker, ILB, Northwestern
D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Nate Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.

Round Four: Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Jones is a productive force at defensive tackle and end. He has superb athleticism for a man his size and figures to play more at the end, but could slide inside at times. Jones has the potential to dominate offensive linemen when he is in a groove and can live in the backfield. The ACC (Affiliated) standout uses his length to block passes and possesses a respectable pass rush.
Other Possible Targets:
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova

Round Four: Ryan Glasgow, DE/DT, Michigan
The Redskins decide to snatch another defensive lineman in this round as the they waste little time in trying to improve the defensive line.

Round Six: Jay Guillermo, G/C, Clemson
Jay Guillermo is versatile and can play either guard or center. That’s a good reason for the Redskins to take a flyer on him. Also, there is a need to have a backup at center. He would be drafted for depth purposes, but could actually be a starter within a year or two. The ACC lineman has the massive size that is favored in the NFL for inside positions on the offensive line. Good pass protector, but would need to work on the running game.
Other Possible Targets:
Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown
Jordan Evans, ILB, Oklahoma
Ahkello Stribling, CB, Colorado
Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan

Played well at the Senior Bowl - scouts claimed the weight loss helped – and continued conditioning may yield even better results. A run stuffer. Likely needs two years before becoming a rotational player at the next level.

Undrafted Free Agent Prospects:
Channing Stribling, CB, Michigan
Patrick Ricard, DE/DT, Maine
Matt Elam, DT, Kentucky
Adam Griffith, K, Alabama
Elijah McGuire, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette
Christian LaCouture, DT, LSU
Kai Nacua, FS, BYU
Patrick Towles, QB, Boston College
Johnny Mundt, TE, Oregon
Tanner Gentry, WR, Wyoming

There is your latest mock for 2017 and prospect lists. Free agency is winding down and the draft will be here before you know it. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

I still think that if we nab a beastly guard in the early rounds that he & a 30+ rushing attempts/game will spring fat Rob for a huge season. Kirk would go apeshit with playaction.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2017(Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ to all in BGO land.

Today we bring you the latest mock as we get closer to the draft of 2017. The big event occurs in less than three weeks and the roster will be full of new prospects before you know it.

The frequency of mocks will increase each week. Next week we will feature three mocks and the following week will bring four. During the week of the draft, we will have a mock each day. Along the way we will feature mocks that have trades (including today). Too, we will not be featuring mocks that have a trade involving Kirk Cousins – only if and when that actually happens.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, team additions, coaching changes and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d love to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

An extra note that we will continually post throughout the mocking process: These mocks may not necessarily be what BBQ wants or what the members at BGO may prefer. These mocks are designed to try and get into the mind of the Redskins brain trust and see what they will do. It’s not an easy task, but we’ll try to do our best.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2017.

Team Needs:
Free Safety
Defensive Line
Wide Receiver
Inside Linebacker
Left Guard
Running Back

Round One: Trade
The Redskins trade down in round one to the very latter stages and pick up a second and fourth rounder.

Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
Haason Reddick, ILB/OLB, Temple
John Ross, WR, Washington
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Round Two: Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
Ray Rice saw his career end for a fist to the face of his wife on an elevator. It was brutal. Joe Mixon slapped a young woman over two years ago and the tape is also brutal. Does the young man deserve a chance? It could be a question that the Redskins front office is willing to answer and do so in the affirmative. No one questions the elite talent that is Joe Mixon. The Sooner is a true first round talent – possibly the second best running back in the 2017 class. The Big 12 dynamo is electric and powerful at the same time. If he can assure the Redskins that lack of maturity is no longer an issue, then Mixon is a major steal here.
Other Possible Targets:
Justin Evans, FS/SS, Texas A&M
Kevin King, CB, Washington
Obi Melifonwu, SS, Connecticut
Adoree Jackson, CB, Southern California
Budda Baker, FS, Washington

Round Three: Cooper Kupp. WR, Eastern Washington
While many pundits and fans think the Redskins are set a wide receiver, nothing could be further from the truth. They could lose two key receivers next offseason (Terrelle Pryor, Brian Quick) and taking one here makes sense. Even if both players are re-signed, this still makes a lot of sense. Besides, having plenty of good receivers in Jay Gruden’s pass happy offense is not a bad thing. The knock on Kupp is that he is slow, but proved the naysayers wrong with good 40 times over the last couple of months. Very dependable receiver. Excellent route runner.
Other Possible Targets:
Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova
D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
Anthony Walker, ILB, Northwestern
Montravius Adams, DT/DE, Auburn
Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio St.
Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami

Round Four: Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar
As one of the better athletes to come out of the Southland Conference this season, Langley is a tough defender with genuine football intelligence. Started his collegiate career at the University of Georgia and was moved to safety out of necessity (injuries to other players). Feeling that corner was still his natural position, he transferred to Lamar and had an impressive career with the Cardinals. Good size, solid speed, nose for the football, excellent defender.
Other Possible Targets:
Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
Kendell Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT/DE, Alabama
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington
Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
Vincent Taylor, DE, Oklahoma St.
Jake Butt, TE, Michigan

Round Four: Isaac Asiata, G, Utah
This very strong and powerfully built guard could be a target for the Redskins. Asiata has played tackle and center, but mostly out of necessity due to injuries along the Utes offensive line. The PAC 12 lineman has the prototypical size to play inside and left guard is his natural position. Excellent in the rushing offense, but will need some work in the pass protection schemes. This four year starter could crack the starting lineup by mid-season, maybe sooner.

Would provide excellent depth to the line.
Other Possible Targets:
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
Charles Walker, DE/DT, Oklahoma
John Johnson, FS, Boston College
Jarron Jones, DE/DT, Notre Dame
Nico Siragusa, G, San Diego St.
Taylor Moton, G/OT, Western Michigan
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT/DE, UCLA

Round Six: Josh Tupou, DT, Colorado
There are some humongous, towering, massive mountains in Colorado – Telluride, Pikes Peak, Mount Elbert, Crestone Peak, Josh Tupou. He’s big! He eats only one meal a day – it last about eight hours.

Round Seven: Tyrique Jarrett, DT, Pittsburgh
The Redskins continue their commitment to stocking defensive linemen in 2017. Jarrett will need time to develop, but the All-ACC standout from Pitt would be a good addition late in the draft. Clogs up the middle very well. Would be solid in the running game, but does not bring much of a pass rush. Needs to develop a little more of a mean streak. . Good attitude and dedicated teammate. Could develop into a fine rotational player in the next year or two.
Other Possible Targets:
James Quick, WR, Louisville
Ben Boulware, ILB, Clemson
Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon
Elijah Hood, RB, North Carolina
Ben Braden, G, Michigan

Undrafted Free Agent Prospects:
Channing Stribling, CB, Michigan
Patrick Ricard, DE/DT, Maine
Matt Elam, DT, Kentucky
Adam Griffith, K, Alabama
Elijah McGuire, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette
Christian LaCouture, DT, LSU

There is your latest mock and prospect lists. Free agency is winding down and the draft will be here before you know it. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

It would tickle me if John Ross fell to 17, and we went BPA

To make up for the mistake we made last year by taking the "BPA" WR?

I curse the Indianapolis Colts! We wanted Kelly! And I'm not sure there was a real contigency plan if he didn't fall to us. WR in the 1st round 2 years in a row? If Ross were that valuable he would never make it that far.

i would rather we didnt go after a second tier DE with our first round pick when our entire defence is a hurting unit, I think its gotta be BPA and hopefully a DT or CB, unless a crazy talent at OL falls to us. then I think you gotta grab him.
