You just shake your head. Not only at the colossal stupidity of the player, but at the timing for the franchise. We're seemingly right on the cusp of taking a generation-long cluster**** of an organization and becoming respectable again, slowly but steadily building a team that could contend for several years ... and your "Captain" and arguably best player, at an absolute position of need, just can't see his way clear to stop blazing up long enough to pass the drug test he KNOWS is coming between certain dates. At least FOUR times. After having been busted for this SAME thing before.
Obviously they can't cut him due to his contract--if anyone has seen it, what would the cap hit be in 2017?--but unless we find out there are all kinds of mitigating circumstances we haven't heard about, they can sure as hell sit him on the bench even after he gets back and even if we're still in contention for a playoff spot. What seems pretty clear at this point is the man is not disciplined/smart enough, or in control of his dependency enough, to merit the team's trust, financially or otherwise, going forward.
Just a week ago I was thinking about the incredibly fortunate legacy of anchor LT's we've had ... Jacoby, Lachey, Samuels ... Williams.
Shit.
