Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)

The BBQ mock for tomorrow at BGO will be delayed until late afternoon due to any potential signing(s) in FA. Possibly Saturday or Sunday. Updates coming as needed.

Smart move, BB. But then again, all your moves are smart.
I'd hate to see you go through the trouble of creating a new Mock tomorrow, and then immediately having to replace all the picks in that draft, where you had us picking Corners.

I think we should go Long Snapper at 21.

If his name is Red Snapper, Jr.....then Yes.

scott has him penciled in the third

Josh Norman potentially falling into the Redskins laps may have an impact on what we do in the draft and how aggressive we are.

I am not going to think about any more draft scenarios until I know whether the Redskins sign Norman.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ World Headquarters.

There has been a disturbance in the Redskins force. Or an awakening in the Redskins force. Or a possible signing in the Redskins force. Whatever it is, BBQ offers some new perspectives today.

Today we bring you the latest mock. It features trades and other exciting information. Starting Monday, draft week, we will feature a mock each day and then we’ll post two mocks next Thursday (morning and afternoon).

The videos that we post for various prospects will contain rough language on occasion. We apologize and recommend that you turn down the volume if offended.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2016.

Round One: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the early-middle portion of round two and gain third, fourth, and sixth rounders.

Round Two: Vernon Butler, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech
Simply put, he is strong and able to do the following: bull rush, hold the offensive lineman from making plays, sack the quarterback, generate a consistent pass rush, and contain running backs – often for a loss. The CUSA product’s motor is constantly running and does not stop. A high character person and his focus is always in the right place.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltL6872vGzs
Other Possible Targets:
Chris Jones, DE, Mississippi St.
Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio St.
Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama
Keanu Neal, FS, Florida

Round Two: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the very latter stages of round two and gain fourth and seventh rounders.

Round Two: Jeremy Cash, SS, Duke
Free safeties are usually more valued by football teams than strike safeties. Here is one strike that you simply can’t ignore. From the program that produced Jamison Crowder, Duke has a real gem in Jeremy Cash. He started out at Ohio St., but transferred to the ACC program after his freshman season. He has steadily improved on his coverage skills and should only get better. A true playmaker. Can suddenly change the direction of a game with his ball hawking skills.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT3-dHxAdKk

Round Three: Darian Thompson, FS, Boise St.
The free safety class for 2016 is a bit weak, but there are a few standouts and Thompson is one of the better prospects. Wait, didn’t we say the same thing about Keanu Neal? Yes. He has the size, length, and physicality that teams like from their safeties. Wait, didn’t we say the same thing about Keanu Neal? Yes. So, what is the difference? Thompson has a tendency to snag more interceptions and defend passes. The two time All-American from the Mountain West program could develop into an elite defender. Takes good angles when defending receivers and running backs. Has the ability to blitz and get around tackles quickly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmPc7LulbWE
Other Possible Targets:
Darian Thompson, FS, Boise St.
Maliek Collins, DE/DT, Nebraska
Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama
Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas
Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado St.
T.J. Green, FS, Clemson
Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame

Round Three: Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Indiana is known as a basketball mecca and the football team is something of an afterthought. The Hoosiers have seen some good fortunes on the gridiron last few years and Howard is a big reason for that buzz. Even with Tevin Coleman (now with the Atlanta Falcons), his backfield running mate last year, Howard was a running machine and still rushed for more than 1,500 yards. He is overlooked because of being in a lower tier program within the Big Ten, but has the size and strength to excel at the next level.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzk5QUSjAY
Other Possible Targets:
Darian Thompson, FS, Boise St.
Maliek Collins, DE/DT, Nebraska
Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama
Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas
Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado St.
T.J. Green, FS, Clemson
Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame

Round Four: Keyarris Garrett, WR, Tulsa
This first team all AAC player is highly underrated. Garrett did not play for a P5 conference, but don’t let that fool you. He can be a stud and put up the numbers. The Golden Hurricane standout could step into a significant role early on and should be a starter by 2017. The super-sized receiver has quick feet and is able to gain separation quickly. Will need to adjust to a pro style offense. Has a laser like focus on the ball and makes many difficult catches. Has drawn comparisons to notable big wide receivers, mostly Randy Moss.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHuTgBWVj0Y
Other Possible Targets:
Sean Davis, FS, Maryland
Scooby Wright, ILB, Arizona
Kyle Murphy, OT, Stanford
Jaylon Smith, OLB, Notre Dame
Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU
Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah St.

Round Four: C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame
Really? Could this happen? The Redskins GM will surprise you when it is not expected. Prosise is an ACC performer who started out as a wide receiver, but moved to running back. Yes, he is quite effective at catching the ball from the backfield and producing big gains. Has the burst to take it to the house on any given play. Excellent size. Good speed. Originally recruited as a safety. Excels on special teams. Solid runner between the tackles and would be better in a power running scheme. Can handle a workload, but needs a few games to adjust to the NFL.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBG3fbHCgk4

Round Four: Hassan Ridgeway, DT, Texas
The All Big12 performer is like the classic blue collar worker who packs his lunch and comes to work with a positive attitude. There is nothing flashy about him other than dependability and reliability. He can occupy blockers at the line and apply pressure in the running and passing games. Ridgeway will likely add about ten to fifteen pounds of bulk to his sturdy frame. For his size, the Longhorn is deceptively quick on his feet. Pretty much an unmovable object on the field.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93CbXKt7roY

Round Five: Graham Glasgow, C/G, Michigan
Glasgow is an intriguing prospect who can play either left guard or center with superb effectiveness. He would likely be a fourth rounder (possibly higher?) if it wasn’t for a DUI conviction and a team suspension for similar behavior. In the past year, the Big Ten mauler has become a model citizen and had a great year on the gridiron. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl as he handled elite defenders who will do well at the next level. Likely projects to center.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzk5QUSjAY

Other Possible Targets:
Max Tuerk, C, Southern California
Matt Ioannidis, DE, Temple
DeAndre Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary
Jayron Kearse, FS, Clemson
Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
Tajae Sharpe, WR, Massachusetts

Round Five: Trade
The Redskins trade a sixth and seventh rounder and move back into the fifth round.

Round Five: Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
Martinez is a relentless baller who plays intelligently and within his skillset. The PAC-12 first teamer, a captain for the Cardinal, is a leader on and off the field. He is solid in the passing and rushing defense and has a great nose for the ball. Seems to be around most plays and creates a disruptive force against offenses. Well regarded and respected by opposing coaches and players. A solid core player who would be exceptional on special teams.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLMjz6Z1Dh0

Round Six: Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford
Those Stanford kids are pretty smart. They’re also good at football. The PAC-12 program was one of the best in 2015 and Hogan had a sensational season. He has a knack for steadily improving and played/learned in a pro-style system – two major plusses. Has a strong competitive streak. Not prone to making egregious mistakes. Very smart – plays within his talents. Had the unenviable task of following Andrew Luck, but handled it well. Good team leader, but will need time to adjust to the NFL.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8VP1eW0GMc
Other Possible Targets:
Kevin Byard, FS, Middle Tennessee St.
Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia
Deiondre Hall, CB, Northern Iowa
Cody Kessler, QB, Southern California
Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, West Virginia
Tyvis Powell, FS, Ohio St.

Round Seven: Joe Thuney, G, N.C. St.
Joe Thuney is a very versatile lineman and could serve as a backup at multiple positions on the offensive line. He has played both guard positions, the two tackle spots, and center. Yes, he is a Jack of all trades. Having such a lineman on the roster is a huge advantage in case of injuries to starters. The All-ACC first teamer is dedicated to his craft and is polished as a run blocker. Needs improvement as a pass protector. Long frame, but will need to add about twenty pounds of bulk and muscle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s72Ocs21gl0
Other Possible Targets:
Josh Forrest, ILB, Kentucky
Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana
Deon Bush, FS, Miami
Justin Burris, CB, N.C. State
Cassanova McKinzy, ILB, Auburn
Elijah Shumate, SS, Notre Dame

Round Seven: Clayton Fejedelem, FS, Illinois
Are you looking for a seventh round steal? Are you looking for a seventh rounder who could start or play many minutes in a reserve role two or three years from now? Are you looking for a special teams player that is able to contribute immediately? Are you looking for a diamond in the rough? Look no further. Clayton Fejedelem is an aggressive free safety who led the Big Ten in tackles last year. He was solid in the Illini’s pro day and had a great East-West Shrine game. Fejedelem has constantly silenced his critics and continues to do so. So yes, he would be a seventh round steal.

There is your latest mock for 2016 and prospect lists. The draft is next week. We’ll post who the Redskins contact during team pro days, visits, and who they work out privately. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

I've been hearing reports all over the board about Jaylon Smith. Someone pundits he may not be drafted. If we had an extra 7th rounder wouldn't we take a shot on him being ok next season?

It's nerve damage in more than one spot. He may never play again.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ World Headquarters.

Happy St. George’s Day to our BGO brothers and sisters in England and Canada.

Offseason free agency is churning along at a much slower pace, but BBQ is here to keep you informed.

New mocks are coming next week as we head into draft week.

There has been a disturbance in the Redskins force. Or an awakening in the Redskins force. Or a signing in the Redskins force. There are significant changes in this FA update. You can feel this Redskins force. It is good.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months. Who will the Redskins target, re-sign and release? Feel free to offer your ideas on free agency and the draft.

Free Agents Obtained:
Ziggy Hood, DE, Chicago
Kendall Reyes, DE, San Diego
David Bruton, SS/ST, Denver
Terence Garvin, ILB/ST, Pittsburgh
Vernon Davis, TE, Denver
Greg Toler, CB, Indianapolis
Cody Booth, OT/TE, Jacksonville
Josh Norman, CB, Carolina

Free Agents Re-signed:

Logan Paulsen, TE
Kirk Cousins, QB
Tress Way, P
Will Blackmon, CB
Junior Galette, OLB

Cary Williams, CB (Very Likely Walks)

Possible Cuts, Cap Savings, Candidates For Restructure:
Andre Roberts, WR – (Very Likely June 1st Cut - $4M Saved if Cut at That Time)
Perry Riley, LB – (Restructure? Possible Release? - $4M Saved if Cut)
Chris Culliver – (Unknown – $8M Saved if Cut on June 1st)
Shawn Lauvao, OG – (Unknown - $3M Saved if Cut)
Kory Lichtensteiger, C – (Likely Stays? Depends on Draft? - $2.95M Saved if Cut, $3.3M June 1st)
Adam Hayward, LB – (Unknown - $945K if Cut)

Suspension:
Silas Redd, RB - Indefinite

Seasonal Updates:
This section will now be devoted to periodic updates.

The Redskins now have about $240,000 overall in cap space and haven’t restructured a contract thus far. The top 51+Pool cap is about $5.4M

Trent Murphy added a lot of bulk and muscle to his frame in recent months. He will continue to do so. Guess who is now going to be a fulltime defensive lineman?

Murphy checks in at about 280 pounds now. He is looking to add another ten pounds or so of bulk and muscle. Your new 3-4 DE.

The Redskins are interested in trading out of the first round according to various reports.

The Redskins appear to be targeting next year as an offseason that is aimed at keeping key players. If the cap remains the same, the team will have about $35M in cap space.

The cap next season is expected to conservatively rise by about $10M or as much as $13M. That would give the Redskins about $45M to $48M in cap space.

Assuming a new contract for Kirk Cousins is in place this summer and after a post June 1 release of Andre Roberts, the Redskins could have $50M to $58M of cap space for 2017. Possibly a bit higher.

There is some chatter about a possible trade during the draft for one of our receivers. It’s only a rumor – for now.

The draft strategy for Scot McCloughan will only change a bit in light of offseason FA additions – one specifically.

We’ll update the free agency as needed and as media chatter warrants. Give us your thoughts on free agency and what you think will happen.

Hail To The Redskins!

So, it appears Will Blackmon is going to move to safety full-time now?

With Toler and Norman on board the CB position has been considerably beefed up in the past 7 plus days.

One thing I don't see is the Redskins taking TWO running backs in the first 4 rounds of the draft.

I can see ONE. Another back who can return kicks perhaps in Round 6 or 7.

We still have spots at OC, another couple of depth spots on the DL, and ILB to consider and those spots are harder to find at reasonable cost in free agency.

I was really disappointed in Jeron Johnson last year. He came in with some expectation of being a solid player if not a long-term answer at safety, but turned out to be a one and done bust.

Hopefully, Bruton once he recovers from his leg injuries will be a standout here both on special teams and as a third safety.

In his defense, he did play more regularly in the Denver defense than Johnson did in Seattle.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)

Greetings from BBQ World Headquarters.

Today we bring you the latest mock and it features trades and other exciting information. This week we will feature a mock each day, including two on draft day (Thursday – morning and afternoon).

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2016.

Round One: Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
The Redskins need youth and dependability on the defensive line for 2016 and beyond. Enter Andrew Billings. The Redskins have a decent running game defense. Billings can make it much better. The Redskins have a poor pass rush. Billings can make it much better. The Big 12 star plays low to the ground and can gain exceptional leverage. A disruptive force who can take on double teams and allow the OLBs a direct path to the quarterback. Deceptive speed. Very, very strong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afNZkUuJqhA
Other Possible Targets:
A’Shawn Robinson, DE/DT, Alabama
Vernon Butler, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech
Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama
William Jackson, CB, Houston
Sheldon Rankins, DT/DE, Louisville
Laquon Treadwell, WR, Mississippi

Round Two: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the early third round and gain fourth and fifth rounders.

Round Three: Su'a Cravens, OLB/ILB, Southern California
The first team PAC12 linebacker is a major force on the football field. He is technically listed as an OLB, but figures to slide inside at the next level. Could start immediately. A needed and desired player for the Redskins at that position. The former safety can drop back in coverage, be highly effective in the rush defense, and provide a huge burst on the occasional blitz. Has a very aggressive and relentlessness attitude on the gridiron. A football player in the mold of what the Redskins GM prefers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n_-6sPcI6s
Other Possible Targets:
Maliek Collins, DT, Nebraska
Sebastian Tretola, OG, Arkansas
Darian Thompson, FS, Boise St.
Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama
Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame

Round Three: Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado St.
Higgins is a highly productive receiver who posted monstrous numbers for the Mountain West program. Fantastic numbers two seasons ago, but production was a bit down this last season. The QB and head coach from two years ago went to the NFL and another program respectively and this accounts for the lower numbers. Still had an impressive 2015 by any standard. Goes by the nickname “Hollywood”. Holds school records for TDs and receptions. Runs excellent routes and is able to get separation from defenders on a consistent basis. Overflows with confidence.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpjRhP2q26k

Round Four: C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame
Other Possible Targets:
Sean Davis, FS, Maryland
Keyarris Garrett, WR, Tulsa
Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU
Justin Simmons, FS, Boston College
Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah St.

Tajae Sharpe, WR, Massachusetts
Jayron Kearse, FS, Clemson
Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
Matt Ioannidis, DE, Temple

Round Five: DeAndre Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary
Latter round free safeties need to have plenty of speed. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have a nose for the ball. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have an elusive ability to deal with blockers. Carson has it. Latter round free safeties need to have great tackling skills, cornerback like skills, incredible focus, football smarts, and special teams skills. Carson possesses these qualities and more. Could the CAA defensive player of the year start sometime during his first season? It’s possible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CabTN_LDUdQ

Round Six: Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia
Do you need another punt returner who can score the occasional touchdown? He’s capable. The ACC specialist is a pretty good corner as well and is rated a bit higher by many scouting services. However, he regressed a somewhat during a senior season that was hindered by poor team play. Deceptively quick. Canady has the size and strength that most teams covet, but will need a year or two on the bench. Could make his mark on special teams and then make the transition to nickel and dime back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PgXbCT9Z54
Other Possible Targets:
Tyvis Powell, FS, Ohio St.
Cody Kessler, QB, Southern California
Deiondre Hall, CB, Northern Iowa
Jared Norris, ILB, Utah
Tyrone Holmes, OLB, Montana
Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, West Virginia

Round Seven: Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana
The Redskins take another Hoosier in round seven, a project with some decent upside at the quarterback position. The fundamentally sound Sudfeld had a good senior season with nearly 3,200 yards passing. He tossed twenty-four touchdowns and just five interceptions. The numbers were twenty-one and nine for his junior campaign. He would obviously be a candidate for third string, but could quickly become a reliable backup within a year or two. The one negative would be that the 6’5”, 240 lb. Sudfeld floats his long passes a bit too much – something that should be easily corrected.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UG6y2yLcnA
Other Possible Targets:
Clayton Fejedelem, FS, Illinois
Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana
Deon Bush, FS, Miami
Cassanova McKinzy, ILB, Auburn
Terrance Smith, ILB, Florida St.
Elijah Shumate, SS, Notre Dame

Round Seven: Joe Thuney, G, N.C. St.
Joe Thuney is a very versatile lineman and could serve as a backup at multiple positions on the offensive line. He has played both guard positions, the two tackle spots, and center. Yes, he is a Jack of all trades. Having such a lineman on the roster is a huge advantage in case of injuries to starters. The All-ACC first teamer is dedicated to his craft and is polished as a run blocker. Needs improvement as a pass protector. Long frame, but will need to add about twenty pounds of bulk and muscle.

There is your latest mock for 2016 and prospect lists. We’re getting ever so close to the draft. See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

I am so fired up for this draft. Words can't even describe.

Yes on Prosise please! That guy can do it all! Running, receiving and blocking all at very high levels.

1st - Jarran Reed, DT Alabama

Trade with New England- Redskins give up 2nd (53) for NE 2nd (61)from Cardinals, and 3rd (96) compensatory

2nd - Nick Martin, C Notre Dame

3rd - Javon Hargrave, DT South Carolina St

3rd - Justin Simmons, FS Boston College

Trade with Packers - Redskins give up 4th(120) for Packers 4th (125) and 6th (200)

4th - Miles Killebrew, SS Southern Utah

5th - Nick Kwiatkoski, LB West Virginia

6th - Sebastian Tretola, G Arkansas

6th - Cody Core, WR Ole Miss

7th - Brandon Doughty, QB Western Kentucky

7th - Josh Forrest, LB Kentucky

I just don't see it as good value to pay Riley $5M to be a backup or rotation guy at ILB.

At that wage you have to be a three down player.

I also agree on Culliver. He may not be back to playing at 100% until 2017.

I would rather let him go, start Norman and Breeland and go with Toler as the third corner.

Excellent mock, Miss BG
And every fan loves a depth chart, so you really know how to win us over, with that special bonus.

Thank you kindly. What a great team and great group of fans to associate with! The best things come to those who wait - SM draft #2 should be another treat!
