Game Notes: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

· The Washington Redskins clinched the NFC East title with a 38-24 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in front of an announced crowd of 69,596 people at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday.

· The Redskins clinched their 15th division title and 24th overall playoff berth in team history.

· The Redskins completing their second “worst-to-first” one-season turnaround in team history (2012). The Redskins finished last in the NFC East in 2014 with a 4-12 record.

· The Redskins became the only team to win the NFC East twice in the last five seasons.

· This season marks the first time since 1999 that the Redskins will enter Week 17 with a playoff berth already secured.

· Head Coach Jay Gruden became the sixth coach in team history to lead the Redskins to a playoff berth within the first two years at the helm (Ray Flaherty, Dutch Bergman, Dudley DeGroot, George Allen and Joe Gibbs).

· The victory was the Redskins’ 600th in team history, including postseason play. Washington is the fifth NFL franchise to reach the 600-win mark (Bears, Packers, Giants and Steelers).

· Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 31-of-46 passes for 365 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He finished the game with a passer rating of 120.3.

· Cousins added to his single-season team records in completions (367) and 300-yard passing games (seven).

· Cousins extended his career-long streak of games with a touchdown pass to 15. He is the first Redskins quarterback to open a season with a touchdown in 15 consecutive games since the NFL instituted the 16-game schedule in 1978.

· Cousins tied Joe Theismann (15 in 1984-85) for the second-longest streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass in team history.

· Cousins’ fourth touchdown of the game pushed his passing touchdowns total to 26, passing Sammy Baugh (25 in 1947) for fifth-most in a single season in team history.

· The four-touchdown game was Cousins’ third of the season, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen (three in 196 and 1967) for the most in single season by a Redskins quarterback since 1960.

· Cousins remains one of four NFL quarterbacks this season to throw a touchdown pass in every game this season (Blake Bortles, Tom Brady and Russell Wilson).

· Cousins posted a 120.3 passer rating, his fifth consecutive game with a passer rating of 100.0 or better. He tied Robert Griffin III for the longest such streak (five in 2012) by a Redskins quarterback since 1960.

· Cousins now has 11 career 300-yard passing games, passing Mark Rypien (10) for sole possession of third-most in team history.

· Cousins became the first Redskins quarterback to throw four passing touchdowns in consecutive games since Weeks 10-11 of the 2012 season (Griffin).

· Cousins (3,990) now only trails No. 1 Jay Schroeder (4,109 in 1986) and No. 2 Brad Johnson (4,005) on the team’s single-season passing yardage list.

· Cousins has now completed 92-of-140 passes (65.7 percent) for 1,082 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception for a passer rating of 105.1 in three career games against the Eagles.

· The Redskins pushed their completions total to 367, breaking the franchise record for completions by a team in a season (364, set in 2014).

· Tight end Jordan Reed caught a team-high nine passes for a season-high 129 yards with two receiving touchdowns.

· With the performance, Reed broke the Redskins’ single-season receiving yardage record of 849, set previously three times (Chris Cooley in 2008 and 2010, Jerry Smith in 1967).

· Reed (83) also tied the Redskins single-season receptions mark by a tight end (Chris Cooley, 83 in 2010).

· The multi-touchdown game was Reed’s fourth of the season, tying Smith for the most in a single season by a Redskins tight end in team history.

· Reed has now recorded multiple receiving touchdowns in consecutive games, becoming the third member of the Redskins to post two or more receiving touchdowns in back-to-back contests in a single season (Smith in 1967, Bobby Mitchell in 1962).

· Reed (11) tied Pro Football Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell (11 in 1962) for the fifth-most receiving touchdowns in a single season in team history. He is one touchdown shy of the team record of 12, set previously four times including most recently in 1988 (Ricky Sanders).

· The Redskins improved to 4-0 this season when Reed records two touchdowns and 5-1 when he records at least 70 receiving yards.

· The 100-yard game was the fourth of Reed’s career. His four career 100-yard receiving games are second-most by a tight end in team history (Smith, seven).

· Reed caught a 22-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, becoming the first member of the Redskins to record 10 receiving touchdowns in a single season since Gary Clark in 1991.

· Reed’s 2015 season marks the eighth time a member of the Redskins has recorded 10 receiving touchdowns in a season in team history. He joins Jerry Smith (12 in 1967) as the only Redskins tight ends to accomplish the feat

· The touchdown gave Reed a receiving touchdown in three consecutive games for the second time this season (Weeks 7-10).

· The first touchdown pass to Reed was the 41st passing touchdown of Cousins’ career, giving him sole possession of 10th-most career passing touchdowns in team history.

· Reed added his second touchdown of the day on a 12-yard pass from Cousins in the second quarter.

· Running back Chris Thompson recorded his second receiving touchdown of the season in the third quarter on a 12-yard pass from Cousins.

· Cornerback DeAngelo Hall recorded a 17-yard fumble return for touchdown in the third quarter.

· Hall tied Jessie Tuggle for second-most fumble returns for touchdowns in NFL history (five).

· Hall became the first player in NFL history to record at least five interception return touchdowns and five fumble return touchdowns in a career.

· Hall’s touchdown was the first by the Redskins in Philadelphia since Sean Taylor’s 39-yard fumble return to seal a playoff berth at Lincoln Financial Field on Jan. 1, 2006.

· Wide receiver Pierre Garçon posted a season high in receiving yards (80) and tied his season high in receptions (seven). He caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cousins in the fourth quarter.

· Garçon has now registered receiving touchdowns in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 6-7 of the 2014 season.

· The Redskins recorded the game’s first takeaway as safety Dashon Goldson recorded his second fumble recovery of the season – the eighth of his career.

· The fumble was forced by cornerback Bashaud Breeland, his career-high third of the season.

· Linebacker Will Compton recorded his first career sack in the first quarter.

· Linebacker Preston Smith recorded three sacks, the first multi-sack game of his career. His three sacks were the most in a game by a Redskins rookie since Dec. 13, 2013 (Brian Orakpo, four at Oakland).

· Smith’s seven sacks this season are the most by a Redskins rookie since 2011 (Ryan Kerrigan, 7.5).

· Defensive end Ricky Jean Francois recorded a sack in the fourth quarter, marking back-to-back games with a sack. The last time Jean Francois earned a full sack in two straight games was Weeks 6-7 of the 2014 seaon.

· With a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter, kicker Dustin Hopkins exceeded the 100-point mark this season, posting the 25th 100-point season in team history.

· Wide receiver Jamison Crowder pushed his season receptions total to 54, moving past Pro Football Hall of Famer Charley Taylor (53 in 1964) for third-most by a Redskins rookie.

· In the fourth quarter, Crowder recorded his second two-point conversion of the season, tying Darnerien McCants (two in 2003) for the most in a single season in team history.

· Running back Alfred Morris led the Redskins with 49 rushing yards on 17 attempts, moving past Terry Allen (1,043) for fifth-most career rushing attempts in Redskins history (1,059).

· During the game, the Redskins exceeded 5,000 yards for the 11th straight season, adding to the longest streak in team history.

· The Redskins did not commit a turnover for the first time since Week 12 vs. the New York Giants.

· The Redskins have now won three consecutive games for the first time since winning seven straight to close the 2012 season.

· The Redskins have earned back-to-back road victories for the first time since winning their final three road games of the 2012 season.

· The Redskins recorded their 84th all-time win against the Eagles, including postseason play, their most against any opponent. The Redskins also pushed their all-time road record in Philadelphia to 41-38-2.

· The Redskins swept a season series with the Eagles for the first time since 2012 and for the fourth time since the turn of the century (2005, 2008 and 2012).

· The Redskins have now defeated the Eagles in three consecutive games for the first time since winning four straight against Philadelphia across the 1985-87 seasons.

· The Redskins improved to 3-2 in NFC East play this season.

· The Redskins and Eagles met for the 162nd time, including postseason play. The Eagles are the Redskins’ second-most-played opponent.

· The game marked the second straight season in which Redskins and Eagles faced one another on a Saturday night in Week 16. The Redskins earned a 27-24 victory against the Eagles on a Week 16 Saturday night at FedExField in 2014.

· Including a Week 16 Saturday win last season, the Redskins have now won consecutive Saturday games for the first time since winning three straight across the 2004-06 seasons (Week 15 in 2004, Week 16 and NFC Wild Card Round in 2005).

· The Redskins pushed their all-time Saturday record to 25-24, including postseason play.

SI rated Cousins the #32 starting quarterback in the NFL prior to Week 1 of the season.

They also had the Saints winning the NFC South and the Panthers going 8-8.
