TRENT WILLIAMS EARNS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE PRO BOWL SELECTION

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The National Football League announced today that tackle Trent Williams has been selected to the 2016 Pro Bowl. The annual contest of the NFL's best will take place Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

In addition, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and tight end Jordan Reed were selected as alternates.

Williams’ selection is the fourth of his career and his fourth consecutive selection since 2012. His selection this season is the 17th by a Redskins offensive tackle since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, including selections by Chris Samuels (2001-02, 05-08), Jim Lachey (1990-91), Mark May (1988) and Joe Jacoby (1983-86). Between Williams and Samuels, Redskins left tackles have been selected to eight of the last 11 Pro Bowls. Williams joins Samuels and Jacoby as the only Redskins tackles to make four consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl since the merger.

“I’m extremely honored,” Williams said. “To me, this is a huge award to receive more so because it reflects on how your peers view you on and off the field. I’m extremely excited to have this award for the fourth time, and it couldn’t have come at a better time while we’re in the midst of our playoff hunt.”

Williams, 27, is in his fifth season as an offensive captain for the Redskins and has been among the league’s top left tackles since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He has played 84 career games with the Redskins with 83 starts, including starting all 13 games in which he has played for Washington this season.

This season, Williams has helped anchor an offensive line that ranks tied for sixth in the NFL in sacks allowed (24) a year after ranking 31st in that category (58). Williams’ protection of quarterback Kirk Cousins’ blindside has helped Cousins establish single-season team records in completions (336) and 300-yard passing games (six).

With Williams’ selection this year, the Redskins have had at least one Pro Bowl player for 22 straight seasons. The only year Washington has not had a Pro Bowler in team history was 1993.

Yeah, Reed should have been named to the Pro-Bowl. Trent is an elite and deserves to be recognized. Shanahan got it right with him over Okung.

Congrats to Trent. The guy is a beast and a consistent one at that.

On another topic, could you imagine a Beckham-Norman battle in the Pro Bowl. That would make me want to watch.

I don't have any 'we were robbed' feelings this time around on the pro bowl selections.

Trent is a recognized consistent year to year performer.

Our alternates Ryan Kerrigan and Jordan Reed are in all likelihood going to play in the game given the other selections and the fact the Super Bowl teams' players are not eligible to play.

Both Kerrigan and Reed started slowly but came on as the season has unfolded to the point where RIGHT NOW they are performing at a starting pro bowl level, but were not earlier in the year.

With Reed it was getting more experience and becoming a 'tougher' player physically running his routes and refusing to be tackled by the first defender.

With Kerrigan it has been simply injuries. To himself and others.

His knee was nowhere near 100% when the season started and he gutted it out but was clearly not where he wanted to be.

Then he got the broken hand.

The last several weeks he is starting to show the burst and finishing ability he did last year.

Also, the season-ending injury to Junior Gallette really hurt Ryan as he does not have a legitimate rusher on the other side to complement him.

With a 10 sack guy in Gallette on the other side, there is no telling how disruptive Kerrigan would have been this past month as he has gotten healthier.

If Kirk Cousins takes the Redskins to a Super Bowl win it will be the most remarkable accomplishment (coming out of nowhere) since Kurt Warner did it in 1999.

I remember that press conference in 1999 when Dick Vermeil cried after Trent Green went down for the season but said 'we have the players in the locker room to get this done' and 'we have confidence in Kurt Warner'....................

As we found out he knew something the rest of us didn't know :)

Yeah, Reed should have been named to the Pro-Bowl. Trent is an elite and deserves to be recognized. Shanahan got it right with him over Okung.

There are a few things we really need to thank Shanny on. Our current starting qb is another.

Really happy for Trent the man. He is a very emotional guy. Cares very much about this team, and a legitimate leader.

Breeland had to be considered. There are some great corners out there which had to make it tough for him to get in.

Well, as we've known for quite some time, guys tend to get into Pro Bowls based on what they've done in previous years, not the current year. And also tend to be from winning teams. If the Skins finish this season strong, head into next year as a legit playoff contender and don't crap the bed, it's a good bet there will be some new Pro Bowlers wearing burgundy and gold. Guys like Kerrigan, Reed, Breeland, DJax, Cousins and others might well end up Hawaii after 2016 if they play as well or nearly as well as they have down the stretch in 2015.

The Pro-Bowl is such a joke.

The 4-10 Cowboys: 4 pro-bowlers
Rest of the NFC East combined: 5 pro-bowlers
